Simple and efficient acceleration of existing multigrid algorithms
A simple, robust, and efficient procedure to accelerate multigrid algorithms is discussed in detail. The approach used in this study is based on the BoostConv routine recently proposed by Citro et al. (“Efficient Stabilization and Acceleration of Numerical Simulation of Fluid Flows by Residual Recombination,” Journal of Computational Physics, Vol. 344, 2017, pp. 234–246). The present study starts from the idea that an existing multigrid code can be improved without any coding effort: a simple call to a black-box subroutine is enough to accelerate the iterative procedure. As a consequence, the proposed approach is well suited to be applied in real-life applications where the complexity of numerical codes is quite far from textbook standards. The application of BoostConv to a model problem is presented here. The algorithm is able to reduce the number of iterations required to get the target accuracy without increasing the computational time of the original code. As a consequence, BoostConv can be used on simple models, characterized by few degrees of freedom, or large numerical problems arising from the discretization of three-dimensional problems

The Corpo-grafías magazine is the result of the academic development of the Research Line in Critical Studies of Corporeidades, Sensitivity and Performativities and the investigative work carried out by teachers and students of the Master in Artistic Studies. From there, and from the thesis, a field of inquiry was configured on the living participation that body condition has in the research, creation, training and pedagogy practices carried out in the artistic and cultural field in Colombia. Thus, Corpo-graphs is part of the academic processes of configuration of an emerging gradual field whose object is Artistic Studies, which has been carried out by the ASAB Faculty of Arts of the Francisco José de Caldas District University, based on its curricular projects, respectively ongoing and in formulation , Master\u27s and Doctorate, which, under this denomination of Artistic Studies, question and seek the critical, intercultural and relational treatment of problem axes, whose historical forgetfulness has been recurrent in the production of discourses from the arts.La revista Corpo-grafías es fruto del desarrollo académico dela Línea de Investigación en Estudios Críticos de las Corporeidades, lasSensibilidades y las Performatividades y de la labor investigativa llevadaa cabo por maestros y estudiantes de la Maestría en Estudios Artísticos.Desde allí, y a partir de las tesis, se configuró un campo de indagaciónsobre la participación viva que tiene la condición corporal en las prácticasde investigación, creación, formación y pedagogía que se llevancabo en el campo artístico y cultural en Colombia. Thouless pumping and topology
Physicists and engineers from all around the world are constantly thinking of ways to improve the performance of conventional electronic devices by reducing the dissipated energy and to this aim recently is working its way employing quantum technologies. In a conductor a direct current is usually associated with a dissipative flow of electrons in response to an applied bias voltage. In quantum systems, however, a dissipationless transport can be induced via adiabatic cyclic variation of the system parameters in the absence of any external bias. An example is the quantum pump, or Thouless pump, the quantum version of the famous Archimede’s screw in which water from a low-level is pushed up the tube by the slow and periodic rotation of the helicoid. The quantum device is obtained slowly time periodic potential. Interestingly, the charge pumped after a period is quantized and is connected to a bulk property of the system, the so called topological invariant, i.e. a property of a geometric shape that does not change when the shape is stretched or distorted and thus is robust to external perturbations.
The exciting developments in the exploitation of quantum pumps have been reported in an article of the prestigious journal Nature Reviews Physics involving the Department of Physics at University of Salerno, where a research on quantum devices is coordinated by Prof. Roberta Citro, and the Quantum Optics group at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, led by Prof. Monika Aidelsburger. The article describes in details various quantum pumps, arguing how they produce a lot less heat than conventional electric currents generators, making them promising candidates for future electronic devices with significantly reduced power consumption.
Quantum pumping has received much attention in mesoscopic electronic systems, mainly owing to its potential of reducing the dissipation of energy as wasteful heat, for defining a better current standard for metrological purpose or even being used for quantum computing. Design and synthesis of Tc-99m-citro-folate for use as a tumor-targeted radiopharmaceutical
Folate conjugates exhibit high affinity for folate receptor (FR) positive cells and tissues, such as those in tumors, making them attractive candidates and of interest in diagnostic tumor imaging. The aim of study was to synthesize a novel radiopharmaceutical based folate conjugate, Tc-99m-citro-folate, and to evaluate its efficiency as a targeted agent for imaging tumors that over express FR. TLC, HPLC H-1 NMR and LC-MS/MS methods were used to check and confirm the synthesized citro-folate. Citro-folate was labeled with Tc-99m with high labeling efficiency (97 +/- 1.0%). Biodistribution of the radiolabeled conjugate Tc-99m-citro-folate was investigated in vivo using two groups of rats: FR saturated and unsaturated. These experiments showed high uptake of Tc-99m-citro-folate in FR rich tissues and demonstrated its sensitivity and specificity in imaging ovary and uterus. Based on the demonstrated good radiolabeling and biodistribution properties, the compound Tc-99m-citro-folate may potentially be used as a radiopharmaceutical agent for imaging the FR-positive tumors.
