Towards a better understanding of the fibrolite problem: the effect of reaction overstepping and surface energy anisotropy

    No full text
Trachytes from the Euganean Hills District (Italy) contain metapelitic xenoliths that have been pyrometamorphosed during incorporation in the melt. In xenoliths containing sillimanite crystallized during a previous regional HT/LP metamorphism, fibrolite systematically nucleates at the grain boundaries of sillimanite prisms and within plagioclase crystals. Ternary feldspar thermometry shows that plagioclase in contact with sillimanite plots along the 750degreesC solvus that reflects near-equilibrium conditions of regional metamorphism. Plagioclase containing fibrolite plots closer towards the 950degreesC solvus, reflecting the tendency of plagioclase to re-equilibrate at high temperature during pyrometamorphism by a fibrolite-forming reaction: K-feldspar (1) + plagioclase (1) -->K-feldspar (2) + plagioclase(2) + fibrolite. In sillimanite-free xenoliths, fibrolite did not form during pyrometamorphism, because these xenoliths do not contain plagioclase. In these xenoliths, andalusite prisms are replaced by oriented fibrous corundum needles and K-feldspar. The petrographic evidence suggests that when reaction rate is high as a result of reaction temperature overstepping, sillimanite grows as fibrolite because the surface energy of {110} faces is low and their growth rate is rapid. The same explanation may hold also for the growth of acicular corundum pseudomorphing andalusite prisms in sillimanite-free xenoliths

    Homenaje a Tatiana Lobo

After Tatiana Lobo’s death last February, Istmo’s Editorial Board decided to devote a special issue of the journal to this writer who, though originally from Chile, published the entire body of her work in Costa Rica and who dedicated most of her fictional texts to this Central American country. The dossier begins with Anacristina Rossi’s words of farewell and features four scholarly studies and two videos. Other texts, located in other sections of this special issue, complement the dossier: two interviews, selected opinión pieces published by the author and their analysis, handwritten notes taken by Tatiana Lobo when doing archival research, and a bibliography of published research on Tatiana Lobo. Whether understood as a tribute or read as a retrospective, we hope this contribution will inspire further research on works of fiction that still have much to say in the present and hopefully in the future.

Abstract: This article presents an analysis of the ethos inherent to the autobiography of the author Tatiana Belinky. To do so, I considered the author function and the pre-discursive ethos as foreshadowing of an authorial image, giving the reader expectations linked to the ethos of the author before the reading process. In this vein, the media was an important tool for mediation between Belinky and the readers of her works. Some autobiographical events were selected for the sake of the analysis of the discursive ethos. In those, the building of an adult and a child ethos as relating to different discourses could be observed in instances of enunciation. Keywords: ethos; author function; authorial image; Tatiana Belinky

Tatiana in Onegin’s life. Part II

    No full text
February 2025 marked the 200th anniversary of the first chapter of “Eugene Onegin” publication. 200 years of the novel’s existence in its entirety is not so far away. There are countless interpretations of the main characters accumulated during this time. There are also separate assessments of them from the poet himself. Meanwhile, the author’s holistic view of the characters is still in shadows. Some important details remain unnoticed. Understanding the poet’s intention is a worthy goal for a researcher. The final part of the study considers all shades of Onegin’s feelings when meeting knyaginya Tatiana. The author pays attention to Onegin’s letter and actions. The reason for the fail of the loving relationship was Onegin’s selfishness

The Dramaturgy of the Spectator: Italian Theatre and the Public Sphere, 1600–1800

    No full text
The Dramaturgy of the Spectator explores how Italian theatre consciously adjusted to the emergence of a new kind of spectator who became central to society, politics, and culture in the mid-seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The author argues that while a focus on spectatorship in isolation has value, if we are to understand the broader stakes of the relationship between the power structures and the public sphere as it was then emerging, we must trace step-by-step how spectatorship as a practice was rooted in the social and cultural politics of Italy at the time. By delineating the evolution of the Italian theatre public, as well as the dramatic innovations and communicative techniques developed in an attempt to manipulate the relationship between spectator and performance, this book pioneers a shift in our understanding of audience as both theoretical concept and historical phenomenon

Probing local environments in ionic liquids

The polarity and solvation properties were investigated for four ionic liquids with non-aromatic cation. The four ionic liquids studied were: N-methyl-N-butylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (Pyrr14+/NTf2-), N-methyl-N-ethoxyethylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (Pyrr1(202)+/NTf2-), N-methyl-tri-N-butylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) -imide (N1444+/NTf2-) and N-hexyl-tri-N-butylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) -imide (N6444+/NTf2-). The ammonium based ILs exhibit slightly higher polarity than pyrrolidinium based ILs. The solvation dynamics of the fluorescence probe molecule Coumarin 153 exhibits multi-exponential character in all four ILs. The observed solvation dynamics occur on timescales orders of magnitude longer than for most organic solvents. The reorientational dynamics investigated by method of time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy decay is faster than predicted by hydrodynamic theory. The ionic liquid/water interaction were characterized for hydrophobic and water- miscible ionic liquids. The two ionic liquids studied were: 1-butyl-1-methyl- pyrrolidinium bis( trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (Pyrr14+ /NTf2-) and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium Trifloromethylsulfonate (Pyrr14+/OTf-). The concentration dependence of water proton chemical shift δH2O reveals different water-anion interaction in these two ILs. The diffusion properties were investigated in the system IL/water by pulse gradient DOSY experiments. The diffusional behavior of cations and anions is very similar whereas water exhibits anomalously high diffusion rate. The diffusional properties of water are different in two ILs. The ratio DH2O / Dcation is higher for more hydrophobic Pyrr14+ /NTf2- that confirms weaker water-anion interaction in this liquid.Ph. D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Tatiana A. Fadeev

In his concise monograph, Bernd Fabritius examines the relationships of female and male fairy tale characters from a gender pedagogical and a sociological perspective. Using several versions of the Little Red Riding Hood motif, he analyzes how these reflect actual gender relations and gender roles and he also investigates the educational function of the fairy tales. Afterwards, the author asks what a valuable pedagogical use of fairy tales should look like from a present-day perspective

Social Media as a New Public Sphere

    No full text
The information and communication technology system is constantly creating new scenarios, but a tendency in them can still be recognized: the blurring of the limits between consumers and producers and the passage from interactivity to participation (user generated contents, web 2.0, social networks). In this emerging cultural context, constantly redefined and remediated by individual and personalized forms of elaboration, it is important to understand the way in which every single person or group leads his/her own way towards reappropriation of the technological realm. The author aims to explore potential and real capacities of these new technologies to generate a new public sphere by analyzing an exemplary case study: the moblog communities in the megaphone.net project. </jats:p
