Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textAquest article pretén aprofundir en el debat sobre la globalització i la divisió internacional del treball, posant l'accent en el paper dels països perifèrics dins del circuit espacial de producció de tèxtils i peces de vestir. La globalització es caracteritza per la creixent interconnexió de les diverses regions del planeta, resultat de la intensificació dels intercanvis comercials, l'avanç de les noves tecnologies i la difusió d'informació entre les nacions. Aquest fenomen econòmic ha donat lloc a una reconfiguració de l'espai, la qual cosa implica una reavaluació de les normes que regeixen la competència comercial. En aquest context, assistim a la formació de grans zones econòmic-polítiques als països perifèrics, sovint impulsades permegainstitucions. Les hipòtesis sobre els fonaments del desenvolupament industrial -inclosos el comerç internacional, la localització industrial i les externalitats- constitueixen una de les bases de la geografia econòmica. La metodologia d'aquest treball es basa en una àmplia revisió bibliogràfica, que abasta llibres, tesis i articles científics, amb l'objectiu de dilucidar la importància dels països perifèrics en el circuit espacial de la producció de peces de vestir.Este artículo pretende profundizar en el debate sobre la globalización y la división internacional del trabajo, haciendo hincapié en el papel de los países periféricos dentro del circuito espacial de producción de textiles y prendas de vestir. La globalización se caracteriza por la creciente interconexión de las diversas regiones del planeta, resultado de la intensificación de los intercambios comerciales, el avance de las nuevas tecnologías y la difusión de información entre las naciones. Este fenómeno económico ha dado lugar a una reconfiguración del espacio, lo que implica una reevaluación de las normas que rigen la competencia comercial. En este contexto, asistimos a la formación de grandes zonas económico-políticas en los países periféricos, a menudo impulsadas por megainstituciones. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFAs opposed to the majority of federations, the Brazilian federation is organized based on three levels of law-making authorities. From the constitutional viewpoint, municipalities jointly with the Federated States, the Federal District, and the Union form the Brazilian Federation. In addition to having legislative attributions, municipalities are also responsible for ensuring rights in connection with the exercise of citizenship, and among their duties are found the essential tasks of energizing the relations life of places. In a territory of continental dimensions such as in Brazil, throughout history municipalities have carried out the task of actually conveying the functions of the State to places where the Union and state governments are not present. As portions of Brazilian territory suffer increasing international influence, with the presence in those locations of global economy vectors, new local dynamics are produced. As new events, promoters of the territory’s new uses are demanding in political regulation, municipalities are also called on to exercise their law-making function for the economic side of the relations life of places. Municipalities exercise their local autonomy by handling norms on the one hand and territorial configuration on the other, in particular boundaries. Hence, the country’s political and administrative map is re-designed. This is the case in Holambra (SP), a municipality created in the 90’s and which is now requesting a review of its boundaries as a manner of locally solving the conflict between the social use and corporate use of territory in a federative context.
Key words: Federation. Municipal policies. Internal boundaries.Diferentemente da maioria das federações, a brasileira é organizada a partir de três níveis de poder legiferante. Do ponto de vista constitucional o município, juntamente com os Estados Federados, o Distrito Federal e a União conformam a Federação Brasileira. Além de incorporar atribuições legislativas, o município também é responsável pela materialização de direitos referentes ao exercício da cidadania, cabendo a ele tarefas essenciais de dinamização da vida de relações dos lugares. Num território de dimensões continentais como o brasileiro, ao longo da história o município cumpre a tarefa de efetivamente levar as funções do Estado até os lugares aonde a União e os governos estaduais não chegam. À medida que parcelas do território brasileiro se internacionalizam, com a presença nos lugares de vetores da economia global, novas dinâmicas locais são produzidas. Como novos eventos, promotores de novos usos do território são exigentes em regulação política, o município é chamado a exercer sua função legiferante também para a parcela econômica da vida de relações dos lugares. Manipulando normas por um lado, e por outro a configuração do território, explicitamente as fronteiras, os municípios exercem sua autonomia local. Assim, o mapa político-administrativo do país vai sendo redesenhado. Este é o caso de Holambra (SP), município emancipado na década de 1990 e que já solicita revisão de suas fronteiras como forma de solucionar localmente o conflito entre o uso social e o uso corporativo do território num contexto federativo.
