In een graslandvegetatie kunnen, naast veel grassen, oak kruidachtige gewassen vertegenwoordigd zijn. Door de wijze van onderhoud (in de natuurtechnische terminologie en in deze bijdrage "beheer" genoemd) voorkomt men de vestiging van houtige gewassen en haag opschietende ruigtekruiden. Dergelijke op primaire waterkeringen ongewenste gewassen vormen aangrijppunten voor de belasting, geven een slechte doorworteling en bemoeilijken een inspectie van de bekledin

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Produção.O grande desafio enfrentado pelo meio rural em municípios com predominância da agricultura familiar é conjugar a prática de atividades tradicionalmente exploradas, pouco rentáveis e poupadoras de mão-de-obra, com alternativas econômicas e socialmente eficientes, utilizando modernas tecnologias de produção com menor grau de impactos negativos ao meio ambiente. Nesse trabalho, foram analisadas as implicações socioeconômicas e ambientais relacionadas ao uso da piscicultura como atividade rural produtiva no município de Pato Branco, objeto do presente estudo. Considerando o potencial da piscicultura local, optou-se pelo levantamento de informações a campo, como forma de contribuir sugestivamente para o desenvolvimento sustentável da atividade. A partir dos resultados obtidos na pesquisa, observa-se que a piscicultura apresenta diversas oportunidades e possibilita conjuntamente com outras atividades rurais a geração de emprego e renda aos agricultores. A piscicultura pode contribuir com programas de desenvolvimento sustentável à exemplo de Pato Branco, bem como criar oportunidades de melhoria da qualidade de vida das pessoas, preservar o meio ambiente e garantir o uso sustentável dos recursos naturais e do processo produtivo
Nonparametric linkage analysis between schizophrenia and candidate genes of dopaminergic and serotonergic systems
No full textBackground: Alterations in dopaminergic and serotonergic systems have
been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia for many years.
This study was performed to assess the possible involvement of the
dopamine receptor genes D2 (DR(D2)), D3, D4, serotonin receptor genes
(1Dalpha), (1Dbeta), and (2A) in the etiology of schizophrenia.
Methods: We examined 33 multiplex schizophrenic families from Portugal .
Results: Linkage analysis performed by GENEHUNTER showed nonsignificant
linkage for these genes. A maximum nonparametric linkage score of 1.635
(P=.032) at DR(D2) gene was observed, and this finding suggests DR(D2)
gene for further studies.
Conclusion: the polymorphisms studied at dopamine receptor genes D3, D4,
serotonin receptor genes 1Dalpha, 1Dbeta, and 2A do not have a major
effect in susceptibility to schizophrenia in a Portuguese population

No full textTrês ensembles, respectivamente relacionados com as distribuições Gaussiana, Lognormal e de Levy, são abordados neste trabalho primordialmente do ponto de vista da termodinâmica de seus espectros. Novas expressões para as grandezas termodinâmicas sao encontradas para os ensembles de Stieltjes e de Bertuola-Pato, e a conexão destes com os ensembles Gaussianos e estabelecida. Esta tese também se compromete com a continuação do desenvolvimento e aprimorarão do ensemble generalizado de Bertuola-Pato, estendendo alguns resultados para os ensembles simplifico e unitário generalizados, alem do ortogonal generalizado já introduzido anteriormente por A. C. Bertuola e M. P. Pato.Three ensembles, related to the Gaussian, the Lognormal and the L´evy distributions respectively, have been studied in this work and were investigated most of all in what concerns their spectral thermodynamics. New expressions for the thermodynamics quantities were found for the Stieltjes and the Bertuola-Pato ensembles, and the connection with the gaussian ensembles is established. This work concerned with the development continuity and with the improvement of Bertuola-Pato generalized ensemble, extending some of the results to the simplectic and unitary generalized ensembles, besides the orthogonal generalized ensemble introduced before by A. C. Bertuola and M. P. Pato

No evidence of association or linkage disequilibrium between polymorphisms in the 5′ upstream and coding regions of the dopamine D4 receptor gene and schizophrenia in a Portuguese population
No full textAlterations in dopaminergic system have been implicated in the
pathophysiology of this disease for many years, and this study was
performed to assess the possible involvement of the dopamine D4 receptor
(DRD4) gene polymorphisms either in the 5' upstream or in the coding
regions, in the etiology of schizophrenia. The approach included an
association study with 90 Portuguese trios by doing the analysis of the
individual alleles and the haplotypes. For the polymorphisms in the 5'
upstream region (-C616G and -C521T) and in the coding region (48 bp
repeat) of the DRD4 gene, negative results were obtained with both
haplotype relative risk (HRR) and transmission disequilibrium test
(TDT), as well as transmit. These data suggest that polymorphisms
(-C616G, -C521T, and 48 bp repeat) at the DRD4 gene do not have a minor
effect in the susceptibility to schizophrenia in our sample. (C) 2003

No full textA product and time-resolved kinetic study on the reactivity of the radical cations generated from cyclopropyl(4-methoxyphenyl)phenylmethanol (1) and cyclopropyl [bis(4-methoxyphenyl)] methanol (2) has been carried out in aqueous solution. In acidic solution, 1(center dot+) and 2(center dot+) display very low reactivities toward fragmentation, consistent with the presence of groups at Ce, (aryl and cyclopropyl) that after C-alpha-C-ss bond cleavage would produce relatively unstable carbon-centered radicals. In basic solution, 1(center dot+) and 2(center dot+) display oxygen acidity, undergoing -OH-induced deprotonation from the alpha-OH group, leading to the corresponding 1,1-diarylalkoxyl radicals 1r(center dot) and 2r(center dot), respectively, as directly observed by time resolved spectroscopy. The product distributions observed in the reactions of 1(center dot+) and 2(center dot+) under these conditions (cyclopropyl phenyl ketone, cyclopropyl(4-methoxyphenyl) ketone, and 4-methoxybenzophenone from 1(center dot+); cyclopropyl(4-methoxyphenyl) ketone and 4,4 '-dimethoxybenzophenone from 2(center dot+)) have been rationalized in terms of a water-induced competition between 0-neophyl shift and C-cyclopropyl ss-scission in the intermediate 1,1-diarylalkoxyl radicals 1r(center dot) and 2r(center dot)
