Tyrosine phosphorylation of myosin heavy chain during skeletal muscle differentiation: an integrated bioinformatics approach

    No full text
Background: Previously it has been shown that insulin-mediated tyrosine phosphorylation of myosin heavy chain is concomitant with enhanced association of C-terminal SRC kinase during skeletal muscle differentiation. We sought to identify putative site(s) for this phosphorylation event. Results: A combined bioinformatics approach of motif prediction and evolutionary and structural analyses identified tyrosines163 and 1856 of the skeletal muscle heavy chain as the leading candidate for the sites of insulin-mediated tyrosine phosphorylation. Conclusion: Our work is suggestive that tyrosine phosphorylation of myosin heavy chain, whether in skeletal muscle or in platelets, is a significant event that may initiate cytoskeletal reorganization of muscle cells and platelets. Our studies provide a good starting point for further functional analysis of MHC phosphor-signalling events within different cells.<br/

Therapeutic uses of inorganic nitrite and nitrate - from the past to the future

    No full text
Potential carcinogenic effects, blue baby syndrome, and occasional intoxications caused by nitrite, as well as the suspected health risks related to fertilizer overuse, contributed to the negative image that inorganic nitrite and nitrate have had for decades. Recent experimental studies related to the molecular interaction between nitrite and heme proteins in blood and tissues, the potential role of nitrite in hypoxic vasodilatation, and an unexpected protective action of nitrite against ischemia/reperfusion injury, however, paint a different picture and have led to a renewed interest in the physiological and pharmacological properties of nitrite and nitrate. The range of effects reported suggests that these simple oxyanions of nitrogen have a much richer profile of biological actions than hitherto assumed, and several efforts are currently underway to investigate possible beneficial effects in the clinical arena. We provide here a brief historical account of the medical uses of nitrite and nitrate over the centuries that may serve as a basis for a careful reassessment of the health implications of their exposure and intake and may inform investigations into their therapeutic potential in the future

This article aims to know Ittijahat of Abu Dhu’ayb Al-Hudhali in his poem of Ritsa’. Ittijahat in this study is a description of the poet's tendency to divide Ar-Ritsa', namely Nadb and Ta'ziyah. Ar-Ritsa 'is one of the various forms of Arabic poetry. To analyze the discussion problem, the author uses descriptive analysis method, because this method is very appropriate to find out the picture and state of a thing by describing it in as much detail as possible based on the facts found in the data in question. The results obtained are: In the beginning of the poem, he tends to mourn (Nadb) their five children. He describes in it that he does not stop crying and has trouble sleeping until he becomes weak emaciated due to the intensity of the grief, pain and worries that dominated in his pysche. As for the middle of the poem to the end, the poet turns to the consolation (Ta’ziyah) of his children’s death, as he reflects on the reality of life and death, the poet declares that death is inevitable for every human being that he must accept it and let it go, which the poet portrayed in the exciting narrative style. The story is divided into three stories: the zebra, the bull of the beast, and the two knights.</jats:p

Nowdays, Arabic already has its own charm. Apart from the Al-Quran and Hadith as sources of Islamic Shari'a which are imported from the original source in Arabic, the emergence of scientific disciplines linked to Shari'a adds to the public's attraction and interest in studying Shari'a directly from its Arabic sources. Arabic language learning is starting to emerge with various strategies and methods applied. Some are successful and others need review. In this article, the author wants to examine Arabic language learning in the STIBA Ar-Raayah i'dad lughowi program which is considered successful because it has produced many regional, national and even international achievements. This article aims to examine the background of students in the STIBA Ar-Raayah i'dad lughowi program, the teaching and learning activities of the i'dad lughowi program at STIBA Ar-Raayah and the examination system implemented in the i'dad lughowi program. This article is a case study at STIBA Ar-Raayah using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results found in this research are (1) the background of students in the STIBA Ar-Raayah i'dad lughowi program who come from various regions and schools, (2) learning using the Arabiyyah book Baina Yadaik by maximizing the direct method and activities outside the classroom, (4) a unique exam system with Al-Qur'an exams, subject exams, syahri exams, nihai exams, as well as a rosib system for students who do not reach the minimum completion criteria. The results and conclusions of this research can be used as a reference for Arabic language educational institutions to make them more effective in the future

Androgens and the androgen receptor (AR)

    No full text
Introduction Androgens are sex steroid hormones that are produced in both males and females, albeit in different amounts. Androgens are essential for development and maintenance of the male phenotype (1), and are also important in females, where they can either act directly via the androgen receptor (AR) or indirectly as metabolic precursors for estrogen biosynthesis (2). The majority of circulating androgens in males and females are produced by the gonads, under hypothalamic–pituitary regulation, and adrenal glands. The major circulating androgens are dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA sulfate, androstenedione, and testosterone, which can all be metabolized to other androgens or to estrogens. Testosterone and its intracrine metabolite, 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), are the most potent androgenic hormones, as they bind with high affinity to the AR. Many organs in both males and females are sensitive to androgen action and, depending on the tissue-specific context, androgens regulate multiple cellular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metabolism, secretory responses, and the synthesis of lipids and fatty acids (3). Accordingly, deregulation of AR expression and/or function is associated with a diverse range of clinical conditions, including androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), a form of motor neuron disease known as Kennedy's disease, male and female pattern baldness, hirsutism, acne, male infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and breast and prostate cancer. In particular, the AR is considered an oncogene in the prostate as it plays a critical role at all stages of prostate carcinogenesis, and consequently, inhibition or abrogation of androgen signaling is the goal of hormonal therapies for this disease. In contrast, androgens predominantly have a growth inhibitory role in the breast, consistent with an emerging view of the AR playing a tumor-suppressive role in breast tumorigenesis. This project focuses on the current debates around the category of "subject" in its understanding from the Philosophy of Gender, for which it is fundamental to examine the recent contributions of the American philosopher Judith Butler and those of some of her followers and critics. Thus, we will examine, on the one hand, the different uses of the concept of "performativity" developed by Butler and, on the other hand, concepts such as "desire," rooted in the traditions of philosophy and psychology which she re-elaborates. Both semantic-conceptual spaces are hermeneutic privileged keys to understand the constitution of the subjectivity en the "agency." We also will examine its reach and implications along Butler's work as well as its displacements and connections with the philosophical heritage (deconstruction, Marxism, existentialism, nihilism, among others). In her philosophical analysis of how each one accounts for being a subject, Butler adds perceptive and enriching deconstructions of emblematic figures from tragedy, like Antigone, which is also important to revise. In short, we will trace her philosophical antecedents and polemical referents in order to situate her contributions, the originality of her thinking and the explanatory capacity of many of her conceptual inversions.Fil: Femenías, María Luisa.
