OPCOMITS: Developing an Adaptive and Intelligent Web Based Educational System Based on Concept Map Model
Concept map model is a method that creates domain model by identifying the relationship between concepts in course contents. This study presents an adaptive intelligent web based learning system called OPCOMITS (Object Oriented Programming Tutor using Concept Map Model). OPCOMITS has a free domain model which can be regulated by an expert for any course. It uses concept map model to regulate the topic hierarchy, to measure the student's knowledge about a topic and to stimulate learning. By employing a concept map model, it structures the course and provides an environment in which the lecturer can arrange the chapters, topics, concepts and the prerequisite relationships between the concepts. Thus, it offers an adaptive and effective learning environment by measuring the level of student's knowledge about a topic, offering reinforcing feedback, diagnosing students' weaknesses and directing them to related chapter topic in the domain for revisions. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach an experiment has been conducted on Computer Programming department in Object Oriented Programming course. From the experimental results, it is found that OPCOMITS has contributed to the academic success of students using it and students have exhibited much better learning than those who have used a conventional e-learning system. Visual Clustering of Multidimensional Educational Data From an Intelligent Tutoring System
Data mining can be used in the educational field to make teaching more effective, to provide help for the student and teacher, and to analyze data. Data mining can be useful with educational software like intelligent tutoring systems which contain large quantities of data about students and their degree of success, scores, and errors. By analyzing these data, it is possible to obtain pedagogically reliable information as feedback for the teacher. The objectives of this study are to cluster the data available from an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) and to visualize the multidimensional data analysis results. In this study, the ITS data, which contain exam results on six different concepts, are clustered using k-means and fuzzy c-means algorithms, and the clustering performance of the two algorithms is compared. Cluster analysis results are visualized using a parallel coordinate system. Clustering and visualizing of the concept-level scores is used to provide meaningful and nontrivial insights into the workings of a course. Such information is useful for the teacher to discover which concepts give students difficulty and which do not. The paper also describes the data mining software developed in this study and the analytical results obtained. (C) 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Derin öğrenme yöntemleri ile dokunsal parke yüzeyi tespiti
Image processing applications in real-time systems have become a popular topic in recent years. Deep learning methods, one of the sub-branches of artificial intelligence, and image processing algorithms used in the field of object detection from images can be used together. In this way, applications are developed in many areas such as autonomous cars, autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles, assist robot technologies, assistant technologies for disabled and elderly individuals. This study aims to detect the tactile paving surfaces with deep learning methods in order to design an assistive technology system that can be used by visually impaired individuals, autonomous vehicles and robots. Contrary to traditional image processing algorithms, deep learning methods and image processing algorithms are used together in this study. The YOLO-V3 model, which is one of the best methods of object detection, is combined with the DenseNet model to create the YOLOV3-Dense model. YOLO-V2, YOLO-V3 and YOLOV3-Dense models were trained on the Marmara Tactile Paving Surface (MDPY) dataset, which was created by the researchers and included 4580 images and their performances were compared with each other on the test dataset. It was observed that YOLOV3-Dense model is better than other models in detecting tactile paving surface with 89% F1-score, 92% mean average Precision(mAP) and 81% IoU values
Applying social networks to engineering education
Social networking sites (SNSs) are a popular Internet-based means for users to communicate and interact with each other. Although they have caught the attention of many researchers and are already being used as educational tools, very few studies have investigated the effects of using an SNS in engineering education. This study, therefore, aims to analyze the effects of using the Edmodo platform as a teaching and learning support tool on students' academic and practical performance in the Introduction to Information Technology and Algorithms course, as well as in the Computer Programming course they took in the following semester. It also considers the students' opinions about the Edmodo system. For this study, a total of 62 students studying in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department during the 2016-2017 fall semester were divided into two equally sized groups. The control group underwent a traditional face-to-face education, whereas the experimental group augmented this using the Edmodo system. A mixed-methods approach with a post-test-only control group design was used: quantitative data were obtained from student tests, together with qualitative data from follow-up interviews. The students' grades were analyzed using Student's t-test and correlation analysis, showing that the experimental group performed better in their academic and laboratory assessments and that there was a moderately positive relationship between the post-test results and performance in the subsequent Computer Programming course
SD card projects using the PIC microcontroller / Dogan Ibrahim.
book fair 2012xxiii, 545 p. :PIC Microcontrollers are a favorite in industry and with hobbyists. These microcontrollers are versatile, simple, and low cost making them perfect for many different applications. The 8-bit PIC is widely used in consumer electronic goods, office automation, and personal projects. Author, Dogan Ibrahim, author of several PIC books has now written a book using the PIC18 family of microcontrollers to create projects with SD cards.
This book is ideal for those practicing engineers, advanced students, and PIC enthusiasts that want to incorporate SD Cards into their devices. SD cards are cheap, fast, and small, used in many MP3 players, digital and video cameras, and perfect for microcontroller applications.
Complete with Microchip's C18 student compiler and using the C language this book brings the reader up to speed on the PIC 18 and SD cards, knowledge which can then be harnessed for hands-on work with the eighteen projects included within. Two great technologies are brought together in this one practical, real-world, hands-on cookbook perfect for a wide range of PIC fans
Sharing Location Information in Multi-UAV Systems by Common Channel Multi-Token Circulation Method in FANETs
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology is being used increasingly for military and civilian purposes. The primary reason for this increase is that UAVs eliminate the risk to human life in difficult and dangerous missions, are cost effective, and easily are deployed. Developments in UAV technology and decreasing costs have increased UAV usage. However, when multiple UAVs are deployed, inter UAV communication becomes complicated. For this reason, communication in multi-UAV systems is the most important problem that needs to be solved. To enable communication among UAVs without infrastructure support, a Flying Ad Hoc Network (FANET) is used. A FANET provides UAVs to fly in tandem without colliding. To ensure coordinated flight, UAVs require the location information of other UAVs. In this study, we developed a common channel multi-token circulation protocol to share location information in multi-UAV systems that communicate using a FANET. The proposed method ensures that UAVs in multi-UAV systems know each other's coordinate information with minimum error

Economic impact of local geographical indication products on farmers: a case of Kelkit sugar (dry) beans
This study aims to present the economic impact of the production of local Geographical Indication (GI) products on producers based on the example of GI Kelkit sugar (dry) beans. Kelkit sugar beans, which are cultivated using local seeds, are legume products with white seeds and pink spots. Sugar beans grown around the Kelkit district of Gümüşhane were registered as a geographical indication product by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TPO) in 2020. This study seeks to answer the question of how the production of Kelkit sugar beans, which are mainly marketed with a geographical indication label, affects producer welfare. The target group of the research consists of farmers living in the Kelkit, Siran, and Kose districts of Gümüşhane who use GI-labelled seeds and do not use GI-labelled seeds in beans production. Propensity Score Matching was employed to determine the economic impact of the production of local geographical indication products on producers. The results indicate that the agricultural enterprises participating in the Kelkit sugar beans production program using geographical indication seeds have lower gross output and gross profit per unit area than those who did not participate in the program. © 2024 The Author(s).
