David Audretsch: A Source of Inspiration, a Co-author, and a Friend
In this chapter, Enrico Santarelli discusses the profound impact that David had on his career. Beginning with a conference in Budapest, Santarelli and David bocame close friends and colleagues. They went on to collaborate on many papers and projects, several of which Santarelli highlights below
Dialogo con Enrico Palandri
A conversation with Enrico Palandri aimed at contextualizing his work as an author
Difficile fotografare un’idea”.In addition to having chronicled art and artists of the second half of the 20th century by documenting fifty years of exhibitions, art research, and major public events in Italy, Enrico Cattaneo (Milan, 1933–2019) developed a highly personal visual investigation on the modes, languages, and materials of photography.
These two facets of his activity, indissolubly linked like the two sides of a coin, are recomposed in the overall profile of an author capable of questioning the technical and conceptual foundations of photography.
As he himself has written: ‘The contemporary work of art is often made up of a tangible thing and an idea ... It is difficult to capture an idea on film.

Since 1999, the date he announced his intention to write a cycle of plays based on the works of the Marquis de Sade, Enrico Frattaroli has created five works in this ensemble that bears the title The Sade convivium. In the document he has prepared for L’Annuaire théâtral, he explains his unique approach whereby he uses the works of Sade as a creative material rather than attempting to produce the plays or the novels of the French author
Clinical and Genetic Characterization of Inherited Myopathies and Mitochondrial Diseases
Inherited myopathies and mitochondrial diseases are rare genetic disorders leading to premature death and morbidity. Until recently the diagnostic approach used a combination of clinical assessment and muscle biopsy analysis to guide Sanger sequencing of individual candidate genes; however the high number of causative genes and the broad spectrum of phenotypes have made the diagnostic process slow and challenging. The advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) has revolutionised the diagnostic approach for inherited conditions allowing the screening of multiple genes in parallel. Despite the potential utility of broad NGS screening there are still some limitations, in particular the difficulty in the interpretation of the large amount of data obtained with multiple genetic variants of unknown significance (VUS) per patient. This thesis describes research that aimed to better understand the genetic basis of inherited myopathies and mitochondrial diseases and their correlation with the clinical manifestations. First, I used NGS technology to screen a broad cohort of inherited myopathies and I evaluated the frequency of genetic diagnoses, clinical and pathological factors most likely to be associated with a positive diagnosis and clinical pitfalls. Second, I screened undiagnosed mitochondrial cases attending Mitochondrial Service at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery using NGS and I identified MRPS25 gene mutation as a potential new cause of mitochondrial disease. Consequently I performed complex functional studies to demonstrate an impairment of mitochondrial translation caused by MRSP25 gene mutation. Finally, I studied new genotype-phenotype correlations that can guide future genetic analysis in clinical practice. These include ITGA7 mutation associated with cardiac arrhythmia, RNASEH1-related mitochondrial disease and encephalomyopathy caused by MT-ATP6 truncating mutations
Una mirada desde la memoria a dos experiencias de teatros políticos locales. : En torno de los escritos dramáticos libertarios de Enrico Giulio
After considering the political background of Argentina during the three first decades of the xxth century, the author analyzes a very interesting example of anarchist theatre: Falsas promesas, one of the dramatic texts of Enrico Giulio, ceramist worker and libertarian poet.
Sympathetic and cardiovascular activity during cataplexy in narcolepsy
Autonomic nervous system activity changes have been described during cataplexy as playing a role in triggering it. To confirm these previous findings, we investigated the time course of sympathetic and cardiovascular activities during cataplexy. We made for the first time microneurographic recordings of 10 cataplectic episodes in three patients with hypocretin-deficient narcolepsy. During microneurography, muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) was recorded simultaneously with heart rate (HR), respiratory movements, arterial finger blood pressure (BP), electroencephalography, electro-oculogram and superficial electromyogram. Results showed no significant autonomic changes before the onset of the cataplectic episodes. Cataplexy was associated with a significant increase in MSNA and BP compared with baseline, whereas HR was markedly decreased. An irregular breathing pattern mainly characterized by apnea typically occurred during the attacks. In conclusion, our findings did not show significant changes in autonomic activity prior to cataplexy onset, ruling out a triggering role of the autonomic system. However, cataplexy was associated with co-activation of sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic systems, a pattern reminiscent of that reported during the vigilance reaction in animals
The Schreber case: the discret charm of the paranoic solution
The author revisits Schreber’s Case considering the scientific and historical back ground context and expecially the development of the first group of Freud’s followers. The concept of inconscious homosexuality is examinated and compared to rejection of feminine. Moreover delirium is considered an attempt at making self-containing. In conclusion, the author suggests some considerations about the connection between paranoic functioning and psychoanalytical group functioning
