Strengthening Global Health Security: A Review of Lessons Learnt from Indonesia's COVID-19 Response
The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed how poorly prepared the world is for a pandemic and how easily viruses spread in our interconnected world. The response to COVID-19 in Indonesia has been hampered by a surge in infection and re-infection cases, an ill prepared of healthcare system, low booster vaccination coverage, the emerging of new sub variant, inconsistent implementation of public health measures, and communication barriers. Nevertheless, as infectious disease outbreaks become more frequent, it is hoped that national health security resources will be identified and strengthened. This will enable the nation to keep pace with spreading diseases and become more resilient to future threats. COVID-19 exposes strengths and weaknesses while also creating threats and opportunities. An analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic strategy was conducted using SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis based on Indonesia's experience with the response and countermeasures to COVID-19. The objective of this study is to analyse all the factors involved in the COVID-19 pandemic response so that lessons can be learned towards an effective public health emergency response. The results highlighted strengths, identified weaknesses, and provided recommendations for the future. This would be useful in responding to current threats to global health security and preparing for future ones.Full Tex
Implementasi Kombinasi Algoritma Luc dan RC4 pada Perancangan Aplikasi Keamanan Short Message Service (SMS) Berbasis Android
Sending a message nowdays, is simple because it can be done through Short Message Service or SMS. However, remotely sending messages remain at risk of being intercepted or messages sent may be manipulated by others. Thus, security is required while sending messages. In order to achieve the security, an SMS application which applies Super Encryption method by combining RC4 algorithm and LUC algorithm as security message process is made. Testing is done on text with range 10 characters to 10,000 characters and determination with several different LUC algorithm keys. The testing result shows that the execution time for 10-characters text is 0.002 seconds for RC4 Algorithm encryption, 0.012 seconds for RC4 Algorithm decryption, 0.015 sec for LUC algorithm encryption, 0.056 sec for LUC algorithm decryption, and 0.018 seconds for encryption of both algorithms, 0.087 seconds for decryption of both algorithms; the execution time for 10000-characters is 2.221 seconds for RC4 algorithm encryption, 3.174 seconds for RC4 algorithm decryption, 6.752 seconds for LUC algorithm encryption, 43.257 seconds for LUC algorithm decryption, and 8.562 seconds for encryption of both algorithms, 47,286 second for decryption of both algorithms. The test results in the same text with several different LUC Algorithm keys are 0.064 seconds for encryption time test with public key (e, N) (79, 143), and 0.192 sec for decryption time with correct private key (d, N) (319, 143); 0.252 seconds for encryption time test with public key (e, N) (379, 817), and 6.152 sec for decryption time test with correct private key (d, N) (10459, 817).Mengirim pesan saat ini sudah sederhana karena bisa melalui Short Message Service atau SMS.
Security is one of the most important aspects that must be considered especially in
delivering information. Sending information without securing it can make the
information stolen by unauthorized people, so it needs such security to send the
information. One of the best ways in securing data is by using cryptography. The
method used in this research is the hybrid cryptosystem which is one of the ways
combining two different algorithms. The first one uses simetric algorithms and the
other one uses asimetric algorithms. The algorithms uses in this research is RC4 which
is one of the examples of simetric algorithms that will encrypt or decrypt files and
LUC algorithms which is one of the examples of asimetric algorithms that will
encrypt or decript the key of RC4 algorithms. The implementation of the systems uses
the Java programming language by Android Studio software. The testing of the
system uses the encryption and decryption of files. The result of the testing will
change the plain text into the cipher text which is converted into decimal numbers
using the ASCII character code. The time of encryption and decryption required on
both algorithms is linearly straight.Skripsi Sarjan
Strengthening risk communication for pandemic response to enhance global health security: Lessons from Indonesia's COVID-19 response
There have been rising global health security (GHS) threats from emerging zoonotic disease outbreaks, notably pandemics. Historically, pandemics have placed a heavy burden on society, and the pandemic responses have been facing difficulties having to deal with uncertainty, fear, panic, loss of trust in authority, and a lack of collaboration by different sectors. Therefore, pandemic prevention and control have become a global health security (GHS) priority concern.
COVID-19 pandemic in particular has thus far caused millions of deaths and brought enormous negative socio-economic impacts worldwide. Furthermore, with today's data saturation, COVID-19 has been accompanied by mixed-quality information, leaving people inundated and confused by fake news and inconsistent and politicised messages that create distrust and heighten social divisions. This has demonstrated the need for well-designed risk communication strategies for effective pandemic response. Moreover, despite significant efforts to combat the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic by international organisations and affected countries, solutions like vaccine development and mass testing have not fully resolved the crisis. This ongoing uncertainty highlights the needs for effective risk communication (RC) to strengthen pandemic responses in order to secure GHS.
Effective RC involves a two-way exchange of information, and knowledge, facilitating cooperation, managing uncertainty, enabling decision-making, building trust, and sharing resources. While RC has received increasing attention, few studies have systematically investigated the RC in pandemic responses, particularly in countries severely impacted by COVID-19, such as Indonesia.
This research investigates the challenges and needs for effective risk communication strategies to strengthen future pandemic responses. The study draws from Indonesia's experience dealing with COVID-19 as a case in point, focusing on investigating the current gaps and potential strategies to improve RC, design and implementation to strengthen pandemic responses. This is a qualitative study aiming to explore in-depth the views of experts and first-handed experience of relevant stakeholders about their use of risk communication to deal with COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from critically reviews relevant literature and analyses secondary data across four different contextual fields, the study used multiple data collection techniques to capture diverse perspectives and minimise potential bias. The data collection methods used included site observations, in-depth interviews with 42 knowledgeable informants, two focus group discussions with key stakeholders (12 persons), and a community forum attended by 10 participants. Flood crisis, ecological degradation, and hospital resilience in Sumatra: A One Health perspective
Flooding is Indonesia’s most recurrent hydrometeorological hazard, yet intervention-focused analyses that connect environmental degradation, infectious-disease risk, and health-service continuity through integrated One Health and Planetary Health lenses remain limited, especially for Sumatra, where rapid land-use change amplifies exposure and vulnerability. This study aims to analyze flooding in Sumatra as a multidimensional crisis by integrating One Health and Planetary Health perspectives while examining hospital resilience and crisis leadership during disaster response. A mixed-methods approach with descriptive-analytical analysis was applied using secondary data from disaster reports, health surveillance systems, scientific publications, and policy documents covering the period 2019–2024. The findings indicate that flood events in Sumatra increased from 126 cases in 2019 to 193 cases in 2024, affecting more than 380,000 people. The most frequently reported post-disaster diseases were diarrhea, leptospirosis, and acute respiratory infections. Substantial pressure on the healthcare system was evident, with approximately one-third to over half of hospitals experiencing disruptions in energy supply, water, and logistics, alongside patient visit increases of up to 45%, compounded by limitations in human resources. Moreover, variations in crisis leadership capacity across regions influenced the effectiveness of emergency responses. These findings suggest that flood preparedness in Sumatra should be implemented as an integrated health intervention package: One Health–based surveillance and risk communication, targeted WASH and vector/rodent control in high-risk rural communities, urban surge-capacity planning, and climate-resilient hospital measures (redundant power/water, supply-chain continuity, and incident-command training) aligned with global guidance
Ginnasio: Home furniture to support physical exercise
This graduation project is a demonstration of the potentialities of a theory-based approach to design for mood regulation, which is based on the belief that design can influence mood by enabling and stimulating people to engage in effective mood-regulating activities. For this project, the western home bathroom was chosen as a context of research, due to the personal interest of the author in the relaxing properties of bathing, and bathing related activities such as the Finnish sauna, and the Turkish steam bath. The goal of the project was kept very broad in the beginning and gradually narrowed down during the analysis phase. A significant contribution to the creation of a well-defined design goal was given by the realization that, while relaxing practices are usually well accommodated in the domestic environment, little attention is paid to activities that influence people’s mood towards a high energy state such as exercising. Eventually, the project’s objective became to design a piece of furniture, in which physical exercise-supporting features coexist with more relax-oriented attributes. This product would aim to make high energy state inducing activities an integral part of the everyday domestic routine.Three concepts were generated by following an incremental process in which insights from one idea served as a starting point for the next. The third and last concept was then developed using a broad variety of techniques such as sketching, collage making, digital visualization, prototyping, and testing. The final result is a piece of furniture to exercise and to relax on, which form stands somewhere in between a bench and a chaise longue. Its name is Ginnasio, a reference to the building that, in Ancient Greece, functioned as a training facility, but also as a place to relax, socialize and engage in philosophical discussion

Leadership is important in an organization. Either profit organization or non profit. In all life a group needs a leader. To be a leader must go through various stages so as to be a good leader not born but made, the process of making someone a leader is called the science of leadership. Leadership can not be separated by discipline, because it is a very close relationship.
This thesis is an exposition, the research to explain and explain the object under study. The data used is data that has been collected at the time of the author carry out the practice screen for one year. The data obtained will be processed and arranged systematically and regularly.
In solving the problem, the authors argue that all officers on board must apply good leadership characteristics and instill discipline in them first. A good boss must also understand leadership based on management theory, and make experience as learning.
The frequent misunderstanding over the MV. Pan Global when ABK received orders from officers. This is due to the large number of officers who do not use the approach or give a firm assignment that causes saturation and even a rebellious nature of the order.
Finally the authors can draw the conclusions of the elements in the role of leadership on the ship are closely related to the success in achieving common goals.
