P. Ovidius Naso dans les Pontiques ou l’auteur en question
This article refers to the notion of ‘‘ author ’’ in Greco-Latin times, showing how, in Ovid’s work, conditions of exile and of imperial censorship produced a specific form of discourse in literature, one where the poet becomes the primary guarantor of his work. Whilst in the Tristia, Ovid places himself in the role of author guilty of the Art of love,
in the Letters from the Black Sea, he depicts himself as a weary author, having come to the end of his poetic career. His numerous declarations of powerlessness regarding the art of writing, which formthe dominant theme of the last collection of letters, create an effect of a remarkable presence, the very origin of a new form of authorship.Jouteur Isabelle. Isabelle/DOF: Design and Implementation
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer Verlag via the DOI in this record17th International Conference, SEFM 2019
Oslo, Norway, September 18–20, 2019DOF is a novel framework for defining ontologies and enforcing them during document development and evolution. A major goal of DOF is the integrated development of formal certification documents (e. g., for Common Criteria or CENELEC 50128) that require consistency across both formal and informal arguments. To support a consistent development of formal and informal parts of a document, we provide Isabelle/DOF, an implementation of DOF on top of the formal methods framework Isabelle/HOL. A particular emphasis is put on a deep integration into Isabelleâs IDE, which allows for smooth ontology development as well as immediate ontological feedback during the editing of a document. In this paper, we give an in-depth presentation of the design concepts of DOFâs Ontology Definition Language (ODL) and key aspects of the technology of its implementation. Isabelle/DOF is the first ontology language supporting machine-checked links between the formal and informal parts in an LCF-style interactive theorem proving environment. Sufficiently annotated, large documents can easily be developed collabo- ratively, while ensuring their consistency, and the impact of changes (in the formal and the semi-formal content) is tracked automatically.IRT SystemX, Paris-Saclay, Franc
Verifying Feedforward Neural Networks for Classification in Isabelle/HOL
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer via the DOI in this recordFormal Methods: 25th International Symposium, FM 2023, Lübeck, Germany, 6 - 10 March 2023Data Availability Statement:

The materials include both the Isabelle/HOL implementation and the detailed documentation generated by Isabelle.Neural networks are being used successfully to solve classification problems, e.g., for detecting objects in images. It is well known that neural networks are susceptible if small changes applied to their input result in misclassification. Situations in which such a slight input change, often hardly noticeable by a human expert, results in a misclassification are called adversarial examples. If such inputs are used for adversarial attacks, they can be life-threatening if, for example, they occur in image classification systems used in autonomous cars or medical diagnosis.
Systems employing neural networks, e.g., for safety or security-critical functionality, are a particular challenge for formal verification, which usually expects a formal specification (e.g., given as source code in a programming language for which a formal semantics exists). Such a formal specification does, per se, not exist for neural networks.
In this paper, we address this challenge by presenting a formal embedding of feedforward neural networks into Isabelle/HOL and discussing desirable properties for neural networks in critical applications. Our Isabelle-based prototype can import neural networks trained in TensorFlow, and we demonstrate our approach using a neural network trained for the classification of digits on a dot-matrix display.Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC

LE « DESIR DE RACONTER QUELQUE CHOSE : » ENTRETIEN AVEC ISABELLE FLÜKIGER
Born in 1979 in Friborg, Isabelle Flükiger is a French-speaking Swiss author currently living in Bern. She began in literature with the publication of a short story in 2001: “Oublis,” fifth winner of the Young Francophone Writers Prize. Four novels followed: From the sky to the stomach (2003) , To struggle again (2004) , The empty space of the monster (2007) and Best-seller (2011). The latter was translated into German (2013) and is very successful in the German-speaking world. Flükiger also maintains a blog on which she regularly posts short stories. Finally, she explores other art forms related to her writing such as the audio recording of some of her short stories as well as the making of a photo film, Ghost Town (2007) , and trailers for the release. of bestseller .This article is published as Schaal, M., Le ‘désir de raconter quelque chose’ : Entretien avec Isabelle Flükiger.” Women in French Studies 2016, 24;127-141. Author Profiling for Abuse Detection
The rapid growth of social media in recent years has fed into some highly undesirable phenomena such as proliferation of hateful and offensive language on the Internet. Previous research suggests that such abusive content tends to come from users who share a set of common stereotypes and form communities around them. The current state-of-the-art approaches to abuse detection are oblivious to user and community information and rely entirely on textual (i.e., lexical and semantic) cues. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to this problem that incorporates community-based profiling features of Twitter users. Experimenting with a dataset of 16k tweets, we show that our methods significantly outperform the current state of the art in abuse detection. Further, we conduct a qualitative analysis of model characteristics. We release our code, pre-trained models and all the resources used in the public domain
Some significant physics objectives of the p collider
The p-p collider will open a new range of centre-of-mass energies with at least five years of advance with respect to ISABELLE and presumably before the corresponding programme at Fermilab. It is clearly impossible within the available time to give a comprehensive review of the major experimental activities. The author therefore discusses a few topics which are particularly significant: large p/sub T/-effects for jets and single particles; search for intermediate bosons; search for Higgs particles; possible weak interactions without bosons and production of very narrow charmonium-like resonances. At the end the author describes briefly the general-purpose detector which is planned for one of the interaction regions around the SPS (LSS5). (7 refs)
Motivational Scaffolding, Politeness, and Writing Center Tutoring
Writing center tutors know that improving writing skills requires sustained effort over a long period of time. They also know that motivation - the drive to actively invest in sustained effort toward a goal- is essential for writing improvement. However, a tutor may not work with the same student more than once, so tutorials often need to focus on what can be done in a single 30- to 60-minute conference. Further, although tutors are likely to attempt to motivate students to invest time and effort in improving their writing, when writers leave the writing center, tutors' influence might end with the conference. Therefore, tutors must work to develop and maintain students' motivation to participate actively during the brief time they are collaborating in writing center conferences. This article is published as “Motivational Scaffolding, Politeness, and Writing Center Tutoring.” The Writing Center Journal 33 (2013):38–69. Les ouvriers en RDA. Étude d'histoire sociale
Workers in the GDR. Reflections on Social History. P. Hübner.
The article gives a survey of important aspects of labour history in East Germany from 1945 to 1990. In his introduction the author highlights some barriers to making statistical sources accessible and deals with problems in the usage of terms. The analysis concentrates on the relative importance of the workforce in the social policies of the Socialist Unity Party (SED) and the development of the social structure of the workforce. The aims and interests of workers, conflicts of interest and their solution are analysed in detail. The workers' brigades are in the focus of attention, in particular their functions in everyday life. Moreover, the article sketches some effects of central planning and social backgrounds of workers in the GDR.Hübner Peter, Kalinowski Isabelle. Les ouvriers en RDA. Étude d'histoire sociale.
