This paper deals with Tertullian’s conception of man in the context of the previous apologetic tradition. Such as Justin of Rome and Irenaeus of Lyons did before, Tertullian assumes a positive consideration of the human body –properly the flesh-. The author sometimes presents it as the primordial element of human definition. However, he also pays special attention to the soul as a fundamental aspect of human constitution. In order to identify whether one of these aspects prevails ontologically over the other in his anthropological thought, we first analyze the concepts of corpus, caro and anima developed by Tertullian in De anima. Then we will make some references to Adversus Marcionem. Finally our conclusion suggests that tertullian´s anthropological approach reflects a unitary conception of man which includes both the flesh and the soul.Fil: Giacomone, Mariel. Impact of the Mariel Boatlift on the Miami labor market
Using data from the Current Population Survey, this paper describes
the effect of the Mariel Boatlift of 1980on the Miami labor market. The
Mariel immigrants increased the Miami labor force by 7%, and the
percentage increase in labor supply to less-skilled occupations and
industries was even greater because most of the immigrants were
relatively unskilled. Nevertheless, the Mariel influx appears to have had
virtually no effect on the wages or unemployment rates of less-skilled
workers, even among Cubans who had immigrated earlier. The author
suggests that the ability of Miami's labor market to rapidly absorb the
Mariel immigrants was largely owing to its adjustment to other large
waves of immigrants in the two decades before the Mariel Boatlift

Great Sexpectations: Analyzing the Influence of Expectation and Desire on Sexual Behaviors Performed in Hookups
Sexual acts performed in college hookups are determined by a variety of factors. A significant problem is that culturally driven taboos cloud open communication during hookups leading to unexpressed expectations. These unexpressed expectations play a large role in sexual decision-making. Ideally, hookup partners would only engage in acts they desire, but culturally driven expectations are powerful forces, and may lead to the performance of less-preferred acts. Norm driven expectations develop into persistent sexual scripts that young adults follow closely. Moreover, the influence of expectations may be gendered due to sex role traditionality. Implications for hookup behavior are discussed.https://orb.binghamton.edu/research_days_posters/1008/thumbnail.jp

Is the Latino paradox providing a protective element against crime?
This study investigated if a cultural effect is providing a protective element against crime and violence within predominately Hispanic neighborhoods compared with predominately African American neighborhoods in Camden. Results suggested that the census tracts with 70% or more Hispanics had lower rates of violence than the similarly situated African American census tracts even when socio-demographic risk factors were similar. Hispanic respondents described their neighborhoods in more positive terms and reported higher levels in perceptions of public safety. Collective efficacy and more responsive policing practices may be at work in the predominately Hispanic neighborhoods. This poster was presented at the third annual Graduate Research and Creative Works Symposium while the author was a graduate student at Rutgers University-Camden
Choice experiment study on the willingness to pay to improve
Modern forms of energy are an important vehicle towards poverty alleviation in rural areas of developing countries. Most developing countries’ households heavily rely on wood fuel which impact their health and social–economic status. To ease such a dependency, other modern forms of energy, namely electricity, need to be provided. However, the quality of the electricity service, namely reliability, is an important factor in reducing this dependency. This paper discusses a choice experiment valuation study conducted among electrified rural households located in Kisumu, Kenya, in which the willingness to pay (WTP) to avoid power outages or blackouts was estimated. A mixed logit estimation was applied to identify the various socio-economic and demographic characteristics which determine preferences to reduce power outages among a household’s users. In conclusion, several of the socio-economic and demographic characteristics outlined in this paper were identified and can assist service differentiation to accommodate the diverse households’ preferences towards the improvement of the electricity service.developing country, rural, power outages, willingness to pay, random parameter logit
El boom de los libros de investigación periodística durante la década de 1990: el caso de Espejo de la Argentina de planeta
During the 1990s, in Argentina, investigative journalism books became a publishing phenomenon. These best-sellers occupied an increasingly prominent place within the genre of political books. The pioneering collection of the genre was Espejo de la Argentina by Editorial Planeta. For its analysis, we first consider its connection with the strategies of international companies entering the local publishing market. Then, we explore the affinities between this project and certain journalistic spaces. Finally, we address how becoming a brand-author involves a symbolic rupture in terms of status and public authority for journalists. The work is based on a corpus composed of a database of journalistic books, press archives, and semi-structured interviews with editors and authors.Durante a década de 1990, na Argentina, os livros de investigação jornalística tornaram-se um fenômeno editorial.
