    Gogol in Yuriy Lutsky's interpretation

    No full text
Gogol is the key subject in Yuriy Lutsky's creative heritage. Yuriy Lutsky's work Between Gogol and Shevchenko was translated an d published in Ukrai e with a huge delay, almost 30 years after its first English publication in 1971 , yet one can hardly overestimate its importance for studying the Ukrainian intellectual history relating to the period of Yuriy Lutsky's linguistic and cultural development. The main problem in Lutsky's book is Gogol's linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identification. Under conditions of Ukraine's colonial dependence on Russia, the identity choice by Gogol, a great author in the verba l art , goes far beyond an individual issue and acquires much broader socio-cultura l and even political features.

MACROECONOMIC STABILITY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES: EVOLUTION AND NEW CHALLENGES

    No full text
The objective of this article is to analyse the processes of macroeconomic stabilisation in Central and Eastern European countries over the past thirty years (1991-2021), from the inception of market reforms to the present day. At the same time, the author aims to identify patterns and trends in the macroeconomic policies of these countries, which were formed under the influence of radical structural changes, economic cycles and the global financial crisis of 2008. Methodology. In order to analyse the data, the correlation between variables was measured. The volatility of macroeconomic indicators was gauged using the standard deviation. Based on panel regressions with fixed effects, models were created to demonstrate the influence of macroeconomic stability on economic growth in 15 countries across Central and Eastern Europe over a 30-year period (1991-2021). Results. The analysis using panel regressions with fixed effects shows a significant impact of macroeconomic stability indicators on economic growth after the 2008 global financial crisis, compared to a very small impact during the 2000-2008 boom. The growth of indicators of the real effective exchange rate and total official reserves have a positive impact on economic growth during the boom, while the impact of these indicators decreases significantly in the post-crisis period, and the impact of the lending rate, the current account balance and the unemployment rate increases. It should be noted that the dominant positive factor influencing economic growth in all periods is the budget balance and the weak influence of the exchange rate. Practical implications. The author identifies certain combinations of macroeconomic indicators to create a successful macroeconomic policy for sustainable economic growth in Central and Eastern Europe. Value / Оriginality. The paper assesses and analyses the relationship between macroeconomic stability and economic growth in Central and Eastern European countries during both recession and boom periods, as well as in the post-crisis downturn after 2008, in order to achieve stable welfare, confidence in the future for the whole society and the success of long-term investment projects

Here, for the first time we report a neodymium mode-locked fiber laser emitting at 905 nm in the all-fiber polarization maintaining configuration. We obtain a self-starting pulse generation in nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) cavity configuration. To suppress a dominant emission at 1064 nm corresponding to a 4-level laser scheme, we use an active fiber - 920/1064 division multiplexer - active fiber sandwich-like sequence in the NALM loop. A rectangular shape dissipative soliton had nJ energy, 30 pm spectral width and 80 ÷ 430 ps width linearly depending on the pump power. Excellent agreement with numerical simulation allowed us to recover pulse shape and width for the pulses out of autocorrelation window.Peer reviewe

The author makes an attempt to re-interpretation of the novel by Yuriy Andrukhovych «Perversion». It is proved that the novel can and should be viewed in the context of the new paradigms of the humanities – transculture. Outlines the general features of transcultural paradigm. It is argued that the hero of the novel Stanislav Perfetsky has all the characteristics of transcultural subject. It is argued that he performs the author's task of opposition Western European cultural universa¬lism to the new principle of intercultural communication, which implements in their creative acts of transculturation. It reveals the opposition carnival as the personification of transcultural dimension of reality to carnival-werewolf, demon hoax

Yuriy Izdryk and the Stanislav phenomenon : postmodernists or "postmodernized" avant-garde?

    No full text
The writers of the Stanislav Phenomenon according to a lot of Ukrainian literary scholars are the most representative branch of the Ukrainian postmodernism. This text tries to answer the question that members of this group are really postmodernists or rather they create some kind of the modern avant-garde. The author presents a story of the beginning of the Ukrainian postmodernism and the idea of the "postmodernized modernism" invented by Włodzimierz Bolecki. Based especially on the three novels of Yuriy Izdryk, one of the representative of the Stanislav Phenomenon, author tries to prove that the Ukrainian postmodernism does not exist but really is the "postmodernized" avant-garde

ECONOMIC AND INSTITUTIONAL FUNDAMENTALS OF THE DIVERGENCE OF DEVELOPMENT PATHS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

    No full text
Abstract. An analysis of the divergence of economic development paths of Eastern European countries (Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia) that joined the EU in 2004 and of the European post-Soviet states (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova) for the past twenty years with an emphasis on trade and financial openness is carried out in the article. A detailed description of institutional mechanisms and institutional changes in the economies of these two groups of countries is presented. In my opinion, in order to ensure a sustainable economic development and sustainable economic growth, the macroeconomic equilibrium has to be supplemented by the institutional equilibrium. The equilibrium criteria have to match the actual functions of the institutions, assigned to them by society, and contribute to the development of the whole society along with formation of the middle class.Key words: economic development, economic growth, institutional change, transition economy, Central and Eastern Europ

Labor productivity in the agriculture, structural shifts and economic growth in the Central and Eastern European countries

    No full text
Purpose. In our article, we assess the scope and directions of changes in agricultural labor productivity compared to other sectors of the economy. Methodology / approach. For our survey we choose 15 countries: (і) EU countries – Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, as well (іі) post-Soviet European countries – Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, russia and also (ііі) Albania for period 1996–2019. We use an empirical methodology designed to analyze structural decomposition of labor productivity into the growth effect within the sector and structural dynamic and static effects, often called ‘shift-share analysis’. We analyze process of convergence of sectoral labor productivity and its impact on economic growth. Results. Labor productivity grows in the agricultural sector of the economy at the fastest rate, on average by almost 12 % per year. The growth effects within the industry takes a dominant position in all sectors of the economy in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and its share is on average 88.5 %, and the structural effects are as follows: the dynamic effect is almost 1%, the static effect is 10.4 %. We have confirmed that the agricultural sector is gaining weight in the economic growth of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the influence of the service sector is increasing, although together they do not exceed the influence of the growth of value added in industry. Originality / scientific novelty. For the first time we have used the methodology of decomposition of labor productivity growth into three effects: growth, dynamic and static ones for the period before the financial crisis 2008 and after the crisis for 15 countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Using panel GLS estimator with fixed effects we estimate the impact of labor productivity on economic growth in different sectors for 1991–2020 period. Practical value / implications. The main results of the study can be used for elaboration of effective economic policy in agriculture development in Central and Eastern European countries; for identification of structural shifts in labor productivity in different sectors of the economy before and after the financial crisis; for estimation of the level of convergence between different sectors of the economy; determining main factors of increasing value added in agriculture in Ukraine and other Central and Eastern European countries; implementation structural changes in economy in the period of crisis
