On a Paradox Revealed by Yu. S. Maslov
Get PDFYu. S. Maslov attracted researchers’ attention to the paradox related to the verbs like prygnut’ (jump).
These verbs are perceived as instantaneous, punctual and at the same time they go together with the
word medlenno (slowly). The author shows that the evidence of linguistic intuition can be reconciled
with language data by introducing the seme ‘process of non-standard (short) duration’ and accepting
the idea that perfectivity is able to conceal the most essential feature of a process, namely its duration.
The suggested solution is intrinsically tied to the necessity to differentiate between homonymous
imperfectives like prygat’1 and prygat’2. One of them is characterized by the seme ‘process of standard
duration’, whereas the other has the seme ‘process of non-standard (short) duration’. The author substantiates
her perspective with both linguistic evidence and thorough analysis of the literature on the

Adaptive leader-follower synchronization over heterogeneous and uncertain networks of linear systems without distributed observer
No full textA challenging task in network synchronization is steering the network toward a coherent solution, when the dynamics of the constituent systems are heterogeneous and uncertain. In this situation, synchronization can be achieved via adaptive protocols (with adaptive feedback gains or adaptive coupling gains, or both). However, as state-of-the-art synchronization methods adopt a distributed observer architecture, they require to communicate extra observer variables among neighbors, in addition to the neighbors' states (or outputs). The distinguishing feature of this article is to show that for heterogeneous and uncertain networks of some classes of linear systems, synchronization is possible without the need for any distributed observer. Such classes are in line with those in model reference adaptive control literature. Lyapunov analysis is used to derive a new adaptive synchronization protocol with the simplest communication architecture, in which both feedback and coupling gains are adapted without any extra communication other than neighbors' states (in the full-state information case) or neighbors' outputs (in the partial-state information case). Energy conversion of X-ray, ultraviolet and infrared radiation in Gd2O3 crystals doped with Er3+ ions
Get PDFSpectra of photoluminescence (PL) and X-ray excited luminescence (XRL) in region of 1.5-5.0 eV, PL excitation spectra (2.8-5.8 eV), PL decay kinetics were measured in Gd2O3 crystals doped both with Er3+ and Zn2+ ions. Synchrotron radiation (VEPP-3 storage ring, Novosibirsk, Russia) were used for XRL measurements. PL spectra were studied at room temperature and T= 88 K under excitation with energy Eexc: a) in fundamental absorption region (Eexc≥Eg); b) in intracenter excitation region (Eexc<Eg); c) in infrared region (Eexc<<Eg) with using laser 980 nm diode as exciting photons (up-conversion processes). The probability of radiative transitions from excited states of the impurity center depends on Eexc. The photoluminescence efficiency in Gd2O3 doped with both Er3+ and Zn2+ ions in the green region decreases, 4F9/2→4I15/2 transitions dominate in the red region both in XRL and PL spectra. This effect is also clearly manifested in the spectra of anti-Stokes luminescence. Energy transfer between the excited Er3+ states of the impurity center and the crystal lattice defect is observed. Decrease of the lifetime of 4S3/2 excited state in Gd2O3:Er3+ + Zn2+ from 120 to 10 μs is observed. This fact indicated s a nonradiative energy transfer between impurity center and defect. No full textFor any m∈ℤ let P(m) denote the greatest prime divisor of m with the convention that P(m)=1 when m∈{1,0,-1}. By the problem of Erdo{double acute}s in the title of the present paper we mean the general version of his problem, that is, his conjecture from 1965 that (Formula Presented) (see Erdo{double acute}s [10]) and its far-reaching generalization to Lucas and Lehmer numbers. In the present paper the author delivers three refinements upon Yu [40] required by C. L. Stewart for solving completely the problem of Erdo{double acute}s (see Stewart [25]). The author gives also some remarks on the solution of this problem, aiming to be more streamlined with respect to the p-adic theory of logarithmic forms.</p
