Optimal designs for full and partial likelihood information - with application to survival models
No full textTime-to-event data are often modelled through Cox's proportional hazards model for which inference is based on the partial likelihood function. We derive a general expression for the asymptotic covariance matrix of Cox's partial likelihood estimator for the covariate coefficients. Our approach is illustrated through an application to the special case of only one covariate, for which we construct minimum variance designs for different censoring mechanisms and both binary and interval design spaces. We compare these designs with the corresponding ones found using the full likelihood approach and demonstrate that the latter designs are highly efficient also for partial likelihood estimation

No full textWe consider the problem of finding D-optimal designs for estimating the coefficients in a weighted polynomial regression model with a certain efficiency function depending on two unknown parameters, which models the heteroscedastic error structure. This problem is tackled by adopting a Bayesian and a maximin approach, and optimal designs supported on a minimal number of support points are determined explicitly
Numerical construction of parameter maximin D-optimal designs for binary response models
No full textFor the binary response model, we determine optimal designs based on the D-optimal criterion which are robust with respect to misspecifications of the unknown parameters.
We propose a maximin approach and provide a numerical method to identify the best two point designs for the commonly applied link functions. This method is broadly applicable and can be extended to designs with a given number (\geq 2) of support points and further link functions. The results are illustrated for the logistic and probit model, for which several examples of maximin D-optimal designs are calculated explicitly by our method
Optimal design for additive partially nonlinear models
No full textWe develop optimal design theory for additive partially nonlinear regression models, showing that Bayesian and standardized maximin D-optimal designs can be found as the products of the corresponding optimal designs in one dimension. A sufficient condition under which analogous results hold for Ds-optimality is derived to accommodate situations in which only a subset of the model parameters is of interest. To facilitate prediction of the response at unobserved locations, we prove similar results for Q-optimality in the class of all product designs. The usefulness of this approach is demonstrated through an application from the automotive industry, where optimal designs for least squares regression splines are determined and compared with designs commonly used in practice
