The present research aims at showing to what extent the author Mendes Fradique, in his work called Grammatica portugueza pelo methodo confuso, strolls freely by humor, nonsense and experimentalism, revealing a significant independence in relation to the organized literary movements, besides anticipating forms of literary expression which would become common decades after the release of his confused method. Simultaneously, we will try to show that the work in analysis is essentially critical, having as its background the transgression of the literary canons and the grammar itself, besides questioning the power relations present in language. From the analysis of these problems, we will try to confer more importance to Fradiques work within the literary context. Moreover, this research may be useful to widen the studies in the area of humor, as well as to recover important and innovative contributions of a lesser known author, whose production could have arrived to the present days in a less obscure and marginal way
Where Are We? Performative Strategies of Encounter
This chapter is a visual, aural, and written iteration of the performative walk “Where are we? Performing the city, slowing down time” developed and presented by the artists Beatriz Cantinho and Susana Mendes Silva in the context of the “Elia Academy 2023: exploring situatedness” that took place in the University of Évora in May. The aesthetic focus of this performative walk was a reflection on how one can create connections with the place where one is, and how one can look and unveil lost, forgotten, or erased stories of a given territory. The territory was the city of Évora, where Cantinho and Mendes Silva wanted participants to experience its history, landscape and soundscape, and their own bodies, their own presence from a situated perspective. The authors also wanted to trigger a conscious experience that contrasted with the touristic way of experiencing this World Heritage city and its water systems
Salman Rushdie in the Cultural Marketplace
Taking up the roles that Salman Rushdie himself has assumed as a cultural broker, gatekeeper, and mediator in various spheres of public production, Ana Cristina Mendes situates his work in terms of the contemporary production, circulation, and consumption of postcolonial texts within the workings of the cultural industries. Mendes pays particular attention to Rushdie as a public performer across various creative platforms, not only as a novelist and short story writer, but also as a public intellectual, reviewer, and film critic. Mendes argues that how a postcolonial author becomes personally and professionally enmeshed in the dealings of the cultural industries is of particular relevance at a time when the market is strictly regulated by a few multinational corporations. She contends that marginality should not be construed exclusively as a basis for understanding Rushdie’s work, since a critical grounding in marginality will predictably involve a reproduction of the traditional postcolonial binaries of oppressor/oppressed and colonizer/colonized that the writer subverts. Rather, she seeks to expand existing interpretations of Rushdie’s work, itineraries, and frameworks in order to take into account the actual conditions of postcolonial cultural production and circulation within a marketplace that is global in both orientation and effects.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This work approaches the seven piano Études by Gilberto Mendes in an analysis focusing interpretation issues. In combining this objective to that of registering the compositional techniques applied, we tried to compare these pieces to earlier works, looking for a better understanding of the language of this composer who is considered one of the best in Brazil today. Having gathered this group of works and observed them according to these criteria, our aim was to write a study that could encourage further research on Mendes and the contemporary Brazilian piano repertoire. To facilitate access to these less publicized pieces, a digital edition of the four previously unreleased Mendes études has also been added to this work, as well as a transcript of an interview with the composer about his creative process. A compact disc featuring some of the études, interpreted by pianist and professor José Eduardo Martins and followed by a recorded conversation between the two musicians is also enclosed in this work
