Icimauna macilenta Bates 1881
Icimauna macilenta (Bates, 1881) (Fig. 37) Tyrinthia macilenta Bates, 1881b: 294; Aurivillius, 1923: 586 (cat.); Blackwelder, 1946: 623 (checklist); Gilmour, 1965: 634 (cat.). Hemilophus macilentus; Lameere, 1883: 74 (cat.). Icimauna macilenta; Martins & Galileo, 1991b: 820; Monné & Giesbert, 1994: 285 (checklist); Monné, 1995: 12 (cat.); 2005: 477 (cat.); Monné et al., 2010: 248 (distr.); Monné, 2016: 745 (cat). Bates (1881) described Tyrinthia macilenta based on at least two specimens from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). Martins & Galileo (2014a) figured Icimauna macilenta and commented (translated): “The redescription is based on the original description and a photograph of a specimen of the MNRJ [Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro]”; and “In the specimen figured in BEZARK (2012) [Bezark 2016] belonging to MNRJ, apparently only the antennomere III is widened and IV is normal, without setae on inner side. That antennal formula seems strange for Icimauna, but the placement [in genus] of the species only will be possible after examination of the syntypes.” Actually, the specimen figured is Eraninella longiscapus (Bates, 1881) and not Icimauna macilenta (Fig. 37). The original description, as well as it not being possible to see if there is a distinct humeral carina in the syntype picture, does not allow validating I. macilenta in its current genus nor reassignment to another genus. Material examined (Eraninella longiscapus). BRAZIL, Rio de Janeiro: Nova Friburgo, 1 male, XII.1970, F. M. Oliveira col. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Icimauna reversa Bates 1881
Icimauna reversa (Bates, 1881) (Figs 31–36) Tyrinthia reversa Bates, 1881b: 295; Aurivillius, 1923: 586 (cat.); Blackwelder, 1946: 623 (checklist); Gilmour, 1965: 634 (cat.). Hemilophus reversus; Lameere, 1883: 74 (cat.). Icimauna reversa; Martins & Galileo, 1991b: 820; Monné & Giesbert, 1994: 285 (checklist); Monné, 1995: 12 (cat.); 2005: 477 (cat.); Monné, et al., 2010: 248 (distr.); Monné, et al., 2012: 62, fig. 100 (distr.); Martins & Galileo, 2014a: 191; Monné, 2016: 746 (cat.). Eranina tomentilla Mehl, Galileo, Martins & Santos-Silva, 2015: 32, figs. 1–3; Monné, 2016: 730 (cat.). Syn. nov. Tyrinthia humeralis Martins & Galileo, 2014b: 189; Monné, 2016: 787 (cat.). Syn. nov. Bates (1881b) described Tyrinthia reversa based on a single specimen from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) (Fig. 36). Lameere (1883) transferred the species to Hemilophus Audinet-Serville, 1835, but Aurivillius (1923) kept the species in Tyrinthia Bates, 1866. Later, Martins & Galileo (1991b) transferred T. reversa to their new genus Icimauna. Martins & Galileo (2014b) described Tyrinthia humeralis based on a series of males and females from Brazil (Goiás). Examination of the paratypes deposited at MZSP (Fig. 31) showed that T. humeralis lacks the typical humeral carina present in the species of Tyrinthia. Comparison with specimens of Icimauna reversa deposited in the MZSP collection (Figs 32–34) makes it clear that T. humeralis is simply a variation of I. reversa. Thus, T. humeralis is synonymized with I. reversa. Mehl et al. (2015) describe Eranina tomentilla based on a single female from Paraguay (Fig. 35). Along with T. humeralis, E. tomentilla is simply another color variation of Icimauna reversa, and hence is also synonymized with it. Icimauna reversa shows notable variation in the color of elytral pubescence (Figs 31–36), and also some variation in pronotal pubescence. However, there are no other morphological characters evident which allow separation of the specimens. Material examined. BRAZIL, Goiás: Rio Verde, 1 male, 3 females (paratypes of Tyrinthia humeralis), no other data (MZSP); Jataí, 1 male (paratype of Tyrinthia humeralis), no other data (MZSP). Alfonso de Palencia: author of the vocabulario romance latín in the ms. escorial f-II-10?
The discovery of two incunable folios that transmit the same vocabulary as the MS Esc. f-II-10 led to the conclusion that this was the first Romance-Latin vocabulary to be printed in a Castilian press. The prologue that is preserved in one of the folios offers new data to approach the problem of its author ship. In this paper I will begin by summarizing previous insights regarding date and authorship, before offering an analysis of the countless similarities that this text has with Palencia’s Universal Vocabulario. As well as providing a detailed study of the lexicographical sources of both vocabularies, this research offers several compelling pieces of evidence that allow to identify the authorFil: Hamlin, Cinthia Maria.
