FINANCIAL PROFITABILITY OF MALI-SUD BAS-FOND RICE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
No full textThe high costs of rehabilitating and/or expanding government-managed irrigated schemes in Mali (Office du Niger) has prompted policy-makers and researchers to explore the potential for the underdeveloped farmer-managed bas-fond to contribute to ensure an adequate rice supply and increase rural households' incomes. Because little is known about nas-fond rice production in Mali, this paper analyzes its financial profitability based on data collected from a random sample of 221 farmers. Data analysis revealed that there are numerous rice production systems in the bas-fond. Budget analysis showed that the four most common bas-fond production systems yield higher returns than the opportunity cost of labor and they are more profitable than the main upland crops competing with rice for farmers labor (cotton, sorghum/millet, and maize). No full textThe Bavarian Archive for Speech Signals has released three new speech corpora for both industrial and academic use: a) Hempels Sofa contains recordings of up to 60 seconds of non-scripted telephone speech, b) ZipTel is a corpus with telephone speech covering postal addresses and telephone numbers from a real world application, and c) RVG-J, an extension of the original Regional Variants of German corpus with juvenile speakers. All three corpora were transcribed orthographically according to the SpeechDat annotation guidelines using the WWWTranscribe annotation software. Recently, BAS has begun to investigate performing large-scale audio recordings via the web, and RVG-J has become the testbed for this type of recording

No full textSverige har målsättningen att minska växthusgasutsläppen från inrikes transporter (exklusive flyg) med 70% till 2030 jämfört med 2010 samt att nå nettonollutsläpp av växthusgaser till atmosfären till 2045. Forsknings-och innovationsprogrammet Triple F syftar till att utveckla kunskap som kan bidra till minskningen av godstransporternas växthusgasutsläpp. Programmets mål är att genom olika typer av projekt bidra med resultat som skapar förutsättningar för en bred implementering av nya och befintliga lösningar samt att skapa en plattform för utveckling och spridning av kompetens mellan aktörer, branscher och regioner. Denna rapport är en av tre omvärldsanalyser inom Triple F, vilken fokuserar på policyperspektivet om hur den offentliga sektorns styrmedel kan påverka olika aktörers utsläpp av växthusgaser. Det huvudsakliga målet är att identifiera och sammanställa styrmedel som bidrar till minskade växthusgasutsläpp från godstransporterna samt att analysera vilka kunskapsluckor som finns om hur styrmedel kan användas för att bidra till minskade växthusgasutsläpp från godstransporterna i Sverige. Genom en omfattade sökning av styrmedel världen över har 230 styrmedel sammanställts i en databas, vilken har använts som grund för analyserna i denna rapport. Ett flertal slutsatser och kunskapsluckor har identifierats som kan användas som bas för framtida projekt inom Triple F, vilka beskrivs nedan.
Walking blindfolded unveils unique contributions of behavioural approach and inhibition to lateral spatial bias
No full textHealthy individuals display a tendency to allocate attention unequally across space, and this bias has implications for how individuals interact with their environments. However, the origins of this phenomenon remain relatively poorly understood. The present research examined the joint and independent contributions of two fundamental motivational systems – behavioural approach and inhibition systems (BAS and BIS) – to lateral spatial bias in a locomotion task. Participants completed self-report measures of trait BAS and BIS, then repeatedly traversed a room, blindfolded, aiming for a straight line. We obtained locomotion data from motion tracking to capture variations in the walking trajectories. Overall, walking trajectories deviated to the left, and this tendency was more pronounced with increasing BIS scores. Meanwhile, BAS was associated with relative rightward tendencies when BIS was low, but not when BIS was high. These results demonstrate for the first time an association between BIS and lateral spatial bias independently of variations in BAS. The findings also contribute to clarify the circumstances in which BAS is associated with a rightward bias. We discuss the implications of these findings for the neurobiological underpinnings of BIS and for the literature on spatial bias

No full textCe texte présente la terminologie utilisée dans les ouvrages francophones traitant des bas-fonds. Pour chaque élément du paysage, des définitions sont proposées à partir des références bibliographiques les plus souvent citées. Ce travail est ensuite étendue aux unités humaines de gestion de l'espace. La correspondance entre unités physiques et unités humaines d'analyse du paysage est discutée. Au delà de la terminologie elle-même, ce sont les objets d'étude et les méthodes d'approche qui sont ainsi discutés. Le défi pour le Consortium bas-fonds est de réussir à intégrer dans une approche globale les méthodes et les outils des différentes disciplines scientifiques, de façon à pouvoir proposer au développement des outils d'aide à la décision opérationnels et performants
