Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia.O Canal da Barra da Lagoa é um canal natural (inlet) e única ligação da Lagoa da Conceição com o oceano adjacente. De formato meândrico e com cerca de 2,8km de extensão, teve ao longo das ultimas décadas sua morfologia alterada através de sucessivas dragagens, com aterramento de parte dos antigos meandros, proteções de leito através de enrocamentos e a construção de um molhe em sua desembocadura marinha, na praia da Barra da Lagoa. Essa alteração na morfologia modificou seu padrão de comportamento, que é estudado mais profundamente nesta pesquisa através da análise de alguns parâmetros físico-químicos da coluna d'água, juntamente com dados hidrodinâmicos e atmosféricos, em coletas escalonadas em três níveis de amostragem temporal diferentes: campanhas mensais, campanhas diárias e estações fixas com amostragem horária. A análise dos dados coletados entre 1997 e 2002 demonstrou que a o canal apresenta águas verticalmente homogêneas na maioria das condições, predominantemente euhalinas para as condições de enchente e polihalinas para as de vazante. Breves períodos de estratificação puderam ser identificados somente durante as estofas de maré, nas quais ocorre a inversão da corrente, principalmente na proximidade da entrada de água doce proveniente do morro da Fortaleza da Barra. Além disso, a temperatura das águas foi maior durante o verão (mais quentes na vazante) do que no inverno, essas últimas com pequena variação entre vazante e enchente. Pôde-se ainda identificar um padrão de transporte de material particulado em suspensão no sentido do interior do sistema lagunar, além de ter sido observado um comportamento acíclico das correntes do canal, que em alguns momentos apresentaram quase 24 horas seguidas fluindo para o mesmo sentido. Esses padrões, associados ao comportamento local da maré astronômica, que possui pequena amplitude na costa catarinense, sugerem a forte influência da maré meteorológica no comportamento deste corpo d'água. Com base na investigação realizada, pôde-se classificar o canal como um estuário positivo a neutro, variando de verticalmente homogêneo a parcialmente misturado, com características hiposíncronas, e com processos predominantemente advectivos de transporte de sal. Canal da Barra da Lagoa is a natural inlet and the only connection of Lagoa da Conceição with the adjoining ocean. It presents a meandric course, with about 2.8 km of extension. Along last decades its morphology has been altered through successive dredging efforts, infill of part of the old meanders, bed protections with groins and the construction of jetties in its marine outlet at Barra da Lagoa beach. These alterations in local morphology modified its behavior, which is studied more deeply in this research through the analysis of some physical-chemical parameters of the water column, together with hydrodynamic and atmospheric data. Field sampling were comprised in three different levels of time series: monthly samplings, daily samplings and anchor stations with hourly samplings. The analysis of the data obtained between 1997 and 2002 demonstrated that the channel presents vertically homogeneous waters in most conditions, which tend to be predominantly euhalines in flood conditions and polihalines during ebb tides. Brief stratification periods were only identified during the peak of high and low tides, close to the moments of current inversion, mainly in the proximity of a fresh water inflow area at Fortaleza of Barra hill. The temperature of waters was higher during summer (hotter in ebb tides) than in the winter, in which differences between ebb and flood tides were small. A pattern of suspended matter transport towards the inner parts of the system was also identified. An acyclic behavior of currents was observed in the channel, which in some moments had almost 24 hours of flow in the same direction. Those patterns, associated to the local characteristics of astronomic tides, which are micro-tides in the coast of Santa Catarina, reinforce the strong influence of meteorological tides in the behavior of this water body. Based in the accomplished investigation, the channel could be classified as a positive to neutral estuary, varying from partially to vertically homogeneous in terms of mixture, with hyposynchronous characteristics, and in which advective processes dominate in salt transport

Towards a New Model for Italian TV Fiction: Sky Italia Originals and the Struggle for Difference
No full textThis chapter focuses on original content production, distribution and promotion on pay TV in Italy and especially Sky Italia’s key role in it since 2008. Italian fiction, traditionally produced for the local internal market by the public-service broadcaster, Rai, or by the main commercial group, Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset, has long failed to earn worldwide acclaim. Romanzo criminale, Gomorra and other Sky Italia shows, however, are designed for global distribution. They are conceived as internationally co-produced, or rather co-financed, products. This overview of the pay-TV production model for scripted content addresses various aspects: the production context and culture, adopting a media production studies approach to analyse both the broadcaster’s and the production companies’ perspective; promotion, communication and scheduling; the consumption practices and textual changes marked by both continuity and discontinuity in narration and representation. The ultimate aim is to show whether (and if so, how) an Italian premium TV series model has emerged – as a distinct alternative to those traditionally developed by free-to-air broadcasters – and to explain why these series, with their local appeal and international style, are so successful in global markets
The Grounds for a Renaissance in European Fiction: Transnational Writing, Production and Distribution Approaches and Strategies
No full textThis chapter charts the production and distribution of premium scripted television series in several European countries over the last ten years. It analyses the national histories and transnational connections among the main players behind the current growth of European premium television fiction. A discussion of some background data clearly demonstrates the sector’s importance in the European and global television and media landscape. Building on quantitative research (e.g. industry reports, datasets, players’ shared knowledge) and qualitative findings (interviews with executives, managers and stakeholders), a series of steps is identified in the emergence of a distinct new kind of original fictional production in each country and in the European marketplace as a whole. Professional routines, industry assumptions and best practices are discussed from the different yet highly interconnected viewpoints of screenwriters, production companies and commissioners. Several shared strategies, approaches and trends provide common ground, playing a fundamental role in developing transnational titles and in circulating national productions and co-productions on a global scale
