La fortuna dei giardini di Villa Lante a Bagnaia e di Caprarola in Europa e in America agli inizi del Novecento
No full textIl saggio analizza la fortuna dei giardini di Caprarola e di Bagnaia nella storiografia del primo Novecento. Si tratta di due giardini “esemplari”, disponendo entrambi di quegli ingredienti che esercitano agli inizi del secolo un indiscusso potere di attrazione sugli studiosi stranieri: la varietà delle acque, i terrazzamenti, la relazione fra architetture in muratura e architetture vegetali, la “giusta” dimensione, la presenza dell’altra faccia della medaglia (il bosco accanto al giardino formale), il rapporto con il paesaggio.
L’attenzione degli stranieri per i giardini di Caprarola e Bagnaia è testimoniata dalla quantità di disegni e rilievi eseguiti nel periodo compreso fra le due guerre: oltre a quelli pubblicati dal Triggs, dal Gromort, da Shepherd e Jellicoe, i più significativi sono quelli prodotti dai borsisti dell’American Academy in Rome.
La fortuna critica favorirà negli stessi anni interessanti fenomeni di revival. Villa Lante e Caprarola rivivranno infatti nel corso del Novecento non solo nei progetti di alcuni giardini italiani, ma anche oltralpe e, soprattutto, oltreoceano dove non è infrequente imbattersi in parterres acquatici sul modello di villa Lante, in sequenze di erme riprese da Caprarola, in catene d’acqua che fanno il verso a quelle dei giardini del Viterbese

No full textQuesto saggio esamina la tipologia di cinque ville che tradizionalmente sono associate con l’architetto Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola: Palazzo Isolani a Minerbio (BO), Villa Vecchia a Frascati, Palazzo del Giardino a Parma, Casino del Barco a Caprarola, e Palazzina Gambara a Villa Lante a Bagnaia. Lo studio permette all’autore di riaffirmare l’idea che le ville riflettono aspetti stilistici specifici alle loro regioni, e in particolare che la Palazzina Gambara, nonostante l’evidente basso livello di qualità di costruzione, mostra poco in comune con le altre opere del maestro

I risultati delle ricerche di una equipe internazionale di studiosi evidenziano la genesi del progetto, la trasformazione degli edifici, del giardino e del barco, la decorazione, le diverse campagne di restauro, la fortuna di villa Lante, il ruolo del committente, i legami di questo edificio con altre grandi realizzazioni del periodo, privilegiando gli ambiti italiano e francese.This publication retraces analytically the stages of construction and of transformation undergone by the villa, supporting numerous critical essays with a vast appendix. The research underlines the genesis of the project, the transformation of the buildings, gardens and park, its decoration, the various restoration efforts, the role played by the patron of the work, and the connections of this building with other great projects of the period

Exploring the performative character of the space, and particularly of the garden, I show how space and the performance of music could be considered as an instrumental element in fostering sociability
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
