The reality of our cities is presented with a degraded image of the living environment and no longer fulfils their function in an acceptable manner. This is largely linked to the way it is managed, in particular the management of its waste. most cities have become confused by the repercussions of mismanagement of the services concerned. The issue of integrated management of household and similar waste (IMHSW) has experienced a remarkable deficit. In order to project this problem in a concrete way, we have brought together the reality of (IMHSW) in the city of Bejaia which is limited to a non-participatory and integrative linear management. It seems to us that the absence of this participatory management has led to an amplification of the gravity of the waste problem. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of coordination between the actors of the city of Bejaia in the integrated management of household and similar waste (IMHSW). The study recommends that integrated waste management cannot be achieved through unilateral management and does not depend only on the management of a municipal cleaning center, but must integrate all relevant sectors. &nbsp

Identical Preservation and Its Implications for the Evolution of Maghrebi Medinas: A Study of Constantine’s Old Town in Eastern Algeria

The medinas of the Maghreb represent intricate urban entities deeply embedded within complex historical, geographical, and political trajectories. Frequently marginalized within contemporary urban frameworks, these historical districts, exemplified by the old city of Constantine, embody profound architectural and cultural significance that transcends conventional preservation paradigms. Current heritage conservation approaches predominantly employ standardized methodological interventions that systematically neglect the contextual nuances and unique morphological characteristics intrinsic to each medina. Our research employs a comprehensive methodological framework integrating comparative historical analysis and extensive ethnographic field investigations to interrogate the multifaceted dynamics of urban transformation. The findings reveal that colonial-era urban interventions and standardized preservation paradigms have precipitated substantial structural and socio-cultural transformations, fundamentally altering the developmental trajectories of these historic urban landscapes. The intrinsic economic potential and remarkable diversity of attributes exhibited by Maghrebi medinas necessitate a sophisticated, context-sensitive conservation strategy. Traditional homogeneous preservation approaches are demonstrably inadequate for addressing the complex spatial, social, and cultural dimensions of these urban environments. Instead, a nuanced, adaptive methodology is imperative, simultaneously safeguarding distinctive heritage values while facilitating meaningful integration within contemporary urban ecosystems. By prioritizing contextual specificity and recognizing the dynamic nature of urban heritage, this research advocates for a more nuanced approach to Medina conservation. Such a paradigm shift would not only preserve architectural and cultural integrity but also support the sustainable revitalization of these historically significant urban spaces

The study investigates recycling organic waste in Algeria due to the rising use of natural resources and energy in concrete production and the large amount of organic waste discarded. The aim is to use compost as a partial replacement for sand, reducing the use of natural aggregates in the concrete industry while also reusing previously discarded waste as part of a circular economy. An experimental study was carried out on concrete’s thermal and mechanical properties to determine the effect of partial compost replacement on these properties. Five mixtures were created by replacing sand with compost in different proportions: 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%. Slump and density were assessed in the formulations’ original state. Mechanical tests were performed on the hardened concrete to determine porosity, compressive strength, and flexural strength. Thermal tests were also conducted on various types of concrete to determine thermal conductivity. The findings show that the texture of the compost reduced the slump, highlighting the importance of incorporating an admixture to achieve the desired workability. While meeting normal-weight concrete standards, concrete density was reduced. The mechanical properties of concrete with small amounts of compost were similar to regular concrete; instead, waste porosity improved insulation. Konsystencja i gęstość zostały ocenione w pierwotnym stanie mieszanek. Właściwości mechaniczne betonu z niewielką ilością kompostu były podobne do betonu zwykłego, a większa porowatość poprawiła izolacyjność

Assessment Of Quality And Maturity Of Green Waste Compost In Algeria

Currently, Algeria’s environment and economic policies prioritise the implementation of circular economy ideas. The execution of these programmes mostly relies on the advancement of trash recycling and composting. This article aims to examine the sustainable management of green waste by means of composting. The objective is to evaluate the calibre and level of development of compost derived from green waste and to demonstrate that composting may serve as a sustainable substitute for incinerating green waste in Algeria. The approach relies on empirical investigation. A pilot initiative has been established at the El Khroub commune nursery to collect waste from pruning and weeding activities in green spaces. The purpose of this project is to make compost, which is a completely natural fertiliser. The physico-chemical investigations validate that the compost possesses favourable characteristics and is abundant in organic matter, rendering it appropriate for agricultural use. Furthermore, a germination test conducted with radishes yielded a germination rate of 97%, indicating that the compost is fully mature and poses no phytotoxicity or harm to plants. The research findings indicate that the effectiveness of composting is directly correlated with the rate at which the raw materials decompose and, most importantly, with the quality of the final output. The maturity of compost is a crucial criterion to consider and monitor to assess the quality of compost as a soil amendment.            &nbsp

TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF JAPANESE, ITALIAN, AND ALGERIAN HOUSEHOLD WASTE MANAGEMENT MODELS

Household waste management varies significantly across countries, as illustrated by the examples of Kamikatsu in Japan, Capannori in Italy, and Algeria. Kamikatsu has implemented a highly detailed waste sorting system that actively involves the local community, significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. In Italy, Capannori has adopted a zerowaste approach through policies such as door-to-door collection and reuse centers, achieving a high recycling rate. These initiatives highlight the importance of decentralization and citizen participation for effective waste management. In Algeria, however, waste management remains largely standardized, hindering the development of effective local solutions. Compared to the Japanese and Italian models, it appears that greater citizen involvement and more autonomous local governance could serve as key levers to improve waste management in Algeria. These examples underline the need for enhanced citizen engagement

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
