Summary Business Administration, Business Process & Supply Chain Management, Degree Project (Master), 15 HEC, 4FE06E, Spring 2011 Authors: Haris Khan, Muhammad Jahanzaib Khan, Aziz Ahmad, Naveed Khan. Tutor Petra Andersson. Examiner Helena Forslund. Title Procurement Strategy Supporting Retailer’s Competitive Strategy. Background Due to the intensive competition in retailing, outpacing strategies that offer several competitive advantages are increasingly necessary in order to satisfy consumers. A search of the trade and academic literatures, identified merchandise procurement as one of the key activities retailers use to implement or support retail competitive strategy. The changing industry trends in retailing such as increased competition, increasing size of retailers, shift in power structures, high proportion of cost of goods sold etc have made procurement very critical for a retailer to compete in the market. Research Questions Q: What are the various competitive strategies used by the retail industry in general and the competitive strategies of the case retailers? Q: How do procurement strategies of the case retailers support their specific competitive strategies? Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify competitive strategies used in the retail industry and that of the case companies and investigate if and how the procurement strategy of a retailer supports the implementation of its competitive strategy. Method The empirical data and conclusions drawn from it are based on qualitative case studies carried out in three case retailers ofPakistan. An independent supplier common to all three retailers was also used to collect unbiased information. The information was collected using interviews and questionnaire. The thesis is written from a positivistic perspective with a deductive approach. Conclusion: The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are that primary competitive strategies are price/cost leadership and differentiation, whereas differentiation can be based on several things such as quality, store design, shopping experience etc. The procurement strategies are more relevant and fully support a price leadership strategy than a differentiation strategy. The procurement strategy does support the competitive strategy of a retailer

Reconfigurable RF Circuits and RF‐MEMS
The twelfth chapter, Reconfigurable RF Circuits and RF-MEMS, was contributed by Robert Malmqvist from Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and Uppsala University, Sweden, Aziz Ouacha from FOI, Sweden, Mehmet Kaynak from IHP GmbH, Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, Naveed Ahsan Linköping University, Sweden, and Joachim Oberhammer from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. While most of today's RF circuits are designed for a specific (fixed) function and frequency range, a much higher degree of flexibility would be possible using highly reconfigurable circuit implementations and front-ends architectures. This chapter presents examples of reconfigurable RF circuits that have been realised using either fully transistor based solutions or by employing RF MicroElectroMechanical Systems (RF-MEMS). First a novel approach for implementing reconfigurable circuitry based on the concept of Programmable Microwave Function Arrays (PROMFA) is presented. Various reconfigurable circuit designs based on the emergence of high performance RF-MEMS switches being developed in GaAs, GaN and SiGe RFIC/MMIC process technologies are then reviewed. In the final section, an overview of state-of-the-art RF-MEMS based phase shifter designs intended for electronic beam-steering antennas and phased array systems is presented.</p
عزیز لکھنوی اور محشر لکھنوی کے نعتیہ قصائد کا فنی وفکری تقابل
Aziz Lakhnawi and Mehshar Lakhnawi are well known Qaseeda Nigar of twentieth century. All artistic needs of Qaseeda Nigari are fulffilled in their Qasaaid-e-Naat. In Tashbeeb, mostly they have dealt with theme of love and in Madah we can find out the reflection of physical beauty of Holy Prophet(PBUH) and Seerat u Nabi.Dramatic style, picturesque descriptions, use of hyperbole, taghazzul, poetic sublimity, elevated thoughts and simple Radeef are the major features of Aziz Lakhnawi's Qasaaid e Naat. On the other hand Mehshar Lakhnawi has ornamented his Oasaaid with intensity of love, fourceful feelings, rich tone, long verses and complex Radeef. He is well aware of distinctive lines of the concepts of Tuheed and Risaalat, In Husn e Talab, Mehshar has given vent to his personal aspirations but Aziz Lakhnwi is objective in his approach. He has prayed for the betterment and zenith of Islam and muslims.Diversity thought is also one of major traits of his work
Saddar Bazar Quarter in Karachi: A Case of British-Era Protected Heritage Based on the Literature Review and Fieldwork
On the international level, heritage is considered an essential element for the sustainable development of a country. In South Asian countries such as Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, historic cities struggle to preserve their built heritage, due to rapid urbanisation and changing contemporary urban and architectural requirements. This contribution elaborates on the effects of urbanisation, and city development on the protected heritage of Karachi, Pakistan. The city developed in the 19th century from a mud-fortified small town along the Lyari river to become one of the busiest ports of the Indian subcontinent under British rule. Karachi has now become a metropolitan city with more than sixteen million inhabitants. Due to the accelerated rate of urbanisation and trade activities, Karachi has become Pakistan’s economic capital, resulting in the oblivion of its historical sites. Most of the city’s historic sites are in a state of dereliction, from over- or under-programming, or even under the threat of demolition. The paper focuses on the present condition of a British-era protected-heritage site through a literature review and fieldwork (mapping, drawing, archival research, interviews, photographic surveys, etc.), carried out during 2019 and 2020. The first author conducted site visits to photograph buildings and interview their users to gather feedback on how they perceive the current state of these buildings. The data were analysed to investigate how many buildings from Karachi’s British era with protected status have been demolished or are at risk of demolition. At the heart of the article is the Saddar Bazar Quarter in Karachi and its historical, social, cultural, and economic importance in the city from the British period until the present. The analysis will lead the discussion on what potential these sites/buildings hold, and how to make their preservation possible and withstand the uncurbed urbanisation and the threat of land development. Through discussion, we will focus on the social, cultural and economic aspects which the area and the buildings from the British period hold, and which can be useful in the future for the continuation of the Saddar Bazaar Quarter (SBQ), the historic urban landscape (HUL) and the heritage buildings
Writer Identification Using Microblogging Texts for Social Media Forensics
Establishing authorship of online texts is fundamental to combat cybercrimes. Unfortunately, text length is limited on some platforms, making the challenge harder. We aim at identifying the authorship of Twitter messages limited to 140 characters. We evaluate popular stylometric features, widely used in literary analysis, and specific Twitter features like URLs, hashtags, replies or quotes. We use two databases with 93 and 3957 authors, respectively. We test varying sized author sets and varying amounts of training/test texts per author. Performance is further improved by feature combination via automatic selection. With a large amount of training Tweets (>500), a good accuracy (Rank-5>80%) is achievable with only a few dozens of test Tweets, even with several thousands of authors. With smaller sample sizes (10-20 training Tweets), the search space can be diminished by 9-15% while keeping a high chance that the correct author is retrieved among the candidates. In such cases, automatic attribution can provide significant time savings to experts in suspect search. For completeness, we report verification results. With few training/test Tweets, the EER is above 20-25%, which is reduced to < 15% if hundreds of training Tweets are available. We also quantify the computational complexity and time permanence of the employed features. © 2019 IEEE.Funding: This work was supported in part by the project 2016-03497 of the Swedish Research Council. RF Magnetron Sputtered AlCoCrCu0.5FeNi High Entropy Alloy (HEA) and High Entropy Ceramic (HEC) Thin Films
High entropy-based materials in the form of thin films have been of growing interest recently for surface engineering applications due to their exceptional properties including high hardness, superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion, improved thermal stability, and high hydrophobicity. Sputter deposition of thin films comprised of several elements typically requires the use of targets containing multiple elements, making both the chemical composition and microstructure of the resulting films strongly dependent on the process parameters. Therefore, this thesis investigates the growth mechanism, composition variation and key physical properties of AlCoCrCu0.5FeNi high entropy alloy (HEA) and high entropy ceramic (HEC) thin films deposited by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering using advanced characterization methods. The depositions were performed using a single stoichiometric AlCoCrCu0.5FeNi HEA target in non-reactive and reactive modes to explore various high entropy-based materials in the form of metallic HEA and ceramic HEC thin films.
This dissertation explores several key deposition parameters during the thin film growth for the AlCoCrCu0.5FeNi HEA system. The initial studies investigate the deposition of HEA thin films in non-reactive mode using argon only and explored the influence of working pressure and deposition power on the microstructure, composition and physical properties. Subsequent chapters report reactive sputtering deposition with various gas flow fractions (RN) using a combination of argon with nitrogen or argon with oxygen to fabricate ceramic thin films of high entropy nitride (HEN) and high entropy oxide (HEO), respectively. The overall findings elucidate that the modification of deposition conditions could be used to control and tune microstructures and chemical composition which regulate the physical properties of the AlCoCrCu0.5FeNi high entropy-based thin films having important implications for the development of surface protective coatings in the aerospace, energy and nuclear industries
