Sample tree data from the Swedish National Forest Inventory
The data set include a list of sample trees ≥10 cm DBH from the Swedish National Forest Inventory. Individual sample trees measured and cored within a ten metre wide transect during the 1923-1929 survey or circular sample plots during the 1953-1962, 1983-1992, and 2013-2022 surveys are included. The 10 cm threshold was used to exclude smaller diameter trees measured on small parts of sections or plots. Variables include cluster and plot ID, tree species, diameter, tree age at breast height and total tree age, land-cover class and expansion factors for estimation of number of trees and volumes. The current NFI is based on an annual sample of about 20,000 circular plots, grouped into clusters, of which about 12,000 are surveyed in the field each year. Data for additional sample trees and more variables for individual sample trees can be obtained from the Swedish National Forest Inventory. More details are presented in the article, seeJacobsson, Jonas, Fridman, Jonas, Axelsson, Anna-Lena, Milberg, Per (2025). An aging population? A century of change among Swedish forest trees.
Accentuation of Jonas Rėza's Psalter of 1625
Straipsnyje trumpai apžvelgiama dabartinių kalbų kirčio ženklų istorija – nuo Antikos kalbininko Aristofano Bizantiečio žymėtų akūto, gravio ir cirkumflekso iki Mažvydo Katekizme pažymėto į riestinį cirkumfleksą panašaus ženklo, Baltramiejaus Vilento raštų, D. Kleino gramatikos, J. Rėzos psalmyno ,,Psalteras Dowido“ kirčio ženklų. Išsamiau straipsnyje analizuojamas 1625 m. J. Rėzos psalmyno kirčiavimas, iš graikų perimti kirčio ženklai, paties autoriaus įsivestas kirčio ženklas. Straipsnyje taip pat aptariama Rėzos psalmyne vartotų kirčio ženklų funkcijos, kirčio ženklų vartojimo įvairavimas, sąsajos tarp psalmyno kirčiavimo ir D. Kleino gramatikos Reikšminiai žodžiai: Akūtas; Gravis; Cirkumfleksas; Psalmynas; Lietuvių kalbos istorija; KirčiavimasThis article gives a brief overview of the history of the accent marks of languages from Antiquity linguist Aristophanes of Byzantium marked the acute accent, grave accent and circumflex accent until the sign similar to a tilde-shaped circumflex marked in Mažvydas’ Catechism, and accent signs of Baltramiejus Vilentas’ writings, Daniel Klein‘s grammer, and Jonas Rhesa’s Psalter of David. The article gives a comprehensive analysis of the accentuation made by Jonas Rhesa in the psalter, accent marks taken from Greek, and an accent mark developed by the author himself. The article also discusses the functions of the accent marks used in Rhesa’s psalter, the variation of the usage of accent marks and the interaction between the accentuation of the psalter and D. Klein’s grammer
Arbetarkollektivet i dag – ny studie och teoretisk utveckling
[The worker collectivity today – replication and theoretical development]Sverre Lysgaard’s theory of the worker collectivity is still an influential classic in Scandinavian working life research. The study was carried out in a pulp and paper mill in the late 1950s and Jonas Axelsson, Jan Ch. Karlsson and Egil J. Skorstad have now returned to the plant to find out what has happened to the worker collectivity. Through observations at the workplace and interviews with workers, engineers and managers, as well as having access to data from the 1950s and 1980s, the authors are able to map the development of technology, work organization and the collectivity. On this basis, they suggest two changes to Lysgaard’s theory. One is to conceptually split what Lysgaard called the “technical-economic system” into two relatively autonomous systems – the technical and the economic, respectively. The other is to analyse the way in which the collectivity has infiltrated the technical, but not the economic system.Publication history: A translation of “Arbeiderkollektivet i dag – replikasjon og teoretisk utvikling” in Tidsskrift for samfunnsforskning, volume 57,issue 2 2016 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.18261/issn.1504-291X-2016-02-01).(Published 28 May 2019)Citation: Axelsson, Jonas, Jan Ch. Fat mass, adipokines and clinical complications of chronic kidney disease
Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), irrespective of initial etiology, have a risk of cardiovascular morbidity (CVD) and mortality that is many-fold higher than that of a similar person without CKD. While traditional risk factors, such as hyperlipidemia, certainly contribute, these factors cannot by themselves explain the burden of CVD. Recent data suggest that endocrine signaling of fat mass may lead to the complex of CVD risk factors known as the metabolic syndrome. In the following work, we test the hypothesis that an uremic metabolic syndrome caused by aberrant adipose tissue signaling may contribute to inflammation and metabolic disturbances in CKD.Study I. In a cross-sectional study of 187 incident patients starting dialysis therapy we measured several inflammatory cytokines and adipokines and related these to total and truncal fat mass as estimated by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). We found that truncal, but not non-truncal, fat mass was associated with circulating levels of both interl eukin(IL)-6 and C-reactive protein (CRP).Study II. In a study of 197 incident CKD patients evaluated shortly before the start of dialysis, we showed that patients with elevated fat mass, although having elevated inflammatory markers, are less likely to need recombinant erythropoietin (epoetin), and that epoetin dose is associated with circulating levels of leptin.Study III. This is a post hoc, cross-sectional study comparing 239 CKD patients with varying degrees of renal function impairment with an age- and gender-matched randomly selected control group of 24 individuals. We explored the role of decreased renal function on the adipokine resistin, apparently able to inhibit hepatic insulin action in mice We also investigate possible links with inflammation (CRP, IL-6) and the insulin resistance (QUICKI, HbA1c%) present in patients with CKD. While resistin is strongly related to renal function and inflammation, we could find no links to surrogate markers of insulin resistance.Study IV. In a longitudinal study of 158 CKD, patients with varying degrees of renal failure, we explored the relationship between changes in body fat (DEXA) and tissue resident macrophages (assessed by measuring sCD163), as well as links to systemic inflammation (IL-6, CRP). We concluded that an increase in fat mass is associated with increased sCD163, a surrogate marker of macrophages, and more inflammation in CKD patients.Study V. Again using a cross-sectional design of 189 prevalent CKD patients, we investigated putative links between the adipokine visfatin and insulin resistance in CKD. We conclude that while a reduced renal function and inflammation both independently predict visfatin levels, visfatin is not associated with QUICKI or HbA1c%. However, increased circulating visfatin was associated with endothelial adhesion molecules (sVCAM-1) and a higher mortality rate.Study VI. Using a Mendelian randomization approach in a cohort of 198 incident CKD patients starting dialysis, we show significant differences in serum lipids between functional genotypes of alpha2Heremans-Schmid glycoprotein (AHSG) as well as a significant association between AHSG and fat mass (DEXA).Conclusions. In patients with chronic renal disease, total and, especially, truncal fat mass is associated with increased circulating levels of several cytokines and adipokines that have may influence cardiovascular health and outcome. Thus, further studies are needed to evaluate the impact of fat mass and adipokines on outcome in this patient group.List of scientific papersI.
