Deposited with permission of the author. © 2006 Shane McKenzie.Law enforcement agencies worldwide, including those in Australia, have declared partnerships with the private sector to police e-crime as “critical”. However, this strategy faces uncertainties about appropriate formats and the potential for fostering corruption. Sarre and Prenzler’s (2000) Regulated Intersections model proposes that, to avoid corruption, cooperation must be limited and regulated closely. Consequently, this thesis examines the conditions under which investigative partnership policing of e-crime at the state police level can be mutually beneficial to police and the private sectors, while maintaining public interests. The thesis aims, therefore, to establish normative standards and guidelines for configuring effective and ethical public-private partnerships for e-crime investigation. An exploratory analysis of 3529 e-crime incidents, reported to and cleared by Victoria Police during 1999/00 to 2003/04, investigated the nature of reported e-crime, routine factors affecting its successful investigation and whether partnership was one of those factors. A pilot survey canvassed private sector responses to these issues and partnered e-crime investigation. Thirty-seven interviews were conducted with police, private investigators and e-crime victims. During the research, three Australian attempts at public-private investigative partnership formed to varying success, including the Joint Banking and Finance Sector Investigation Team (JBFSIT) at the Australian High Tech Crime Centre

Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 135-145).Measurements of two-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in e+ e- collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 91 GeV are presented. The archived data are collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP. The correlation functions are measured over a broad range of pseudorapidity and full azimuth as a function of charged particle multiplicity. No significant long-range correlation is observed in both the lab coordinate analysis and in the thrust coordinate analysis, where the later is sensitive to a medium expanding around the color string between the outgoing qq̄ pair from the Z boson decay. The associated yield distributions in both analyses are in better agreement with predictions from the PYTHIA event generator than those from HERWIG, providing new insights into the hadronization modeling. These results serve as an important reference to the observed long-range correlation in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions.by Anthony Shane Nicolae Badea.S.B.S.B. In today’s world of globalization, technology and the internet it is difficult for any organisation or profession to remain in a ‘pen and paper’ based world when it comes to the running of their organisation. The role of the Notary Public is no different. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the development of e-notary and eapostille services in Ireland. At present documents that require a notary stamp and an apostille seal are manually stamped and verified. The process used to conduct this research was not limited to one source of methodology. The author felt that in order to give the best possible result a combination of methodologies would serve this research project appropriately. A combination of primary and secondary data was accumulated by various methods including, library database searches; books and journals; website searches; personal interviews; a questionnaire; and telephone interviews. The research discovered that Ireland is progressing, however slowly, in its introduction of e-Notary and e-Apostille services. To date nine documents have been electronically notarised by a number of Irish Notaries Public. The Department of Foreign Affairs is in the latter stages of introducing the e-Apostille program to the Irish public. At present the proposed introduction is with the DFA’s legal team who are ensuring that all of the legal implications of introducing such a service are studied and scrutinized to insure their compliance with Irish Constitutional Laws on data protection

Evaluation of the Tauc Method for Optical Absorption Edge Determination: ZnO Thin Films as a Model System

    No full text
One of the most frequently used methods for characterizing thin films is UV-Vis absorption. The near-edge region can be fitted to a simple expression in which the intercept gives the band-gap and the fitting exponent identifies the electronic transition as direct or indirect. (See Tauc et al., Physica Status Solidi, 1966; these are often called “Tauc” plots.) While the technique is powerful and simple, the accuracy of the fitted band-gap result is seldom stated or known. We tackle this question by refitting a large number of Tauc plots from the literature and look for trends. Nominally pure zinc oxide (ZnO) was chosen as a material with limited intrinsic deviation from stoichiometry and which has been widely studied. Our examination of the band gap values and their distribution leads to a discussion of some experimental factors that can bias the data and lead to either smaller or larger apparent values than would be expected. Finally, an easily evaluated figure-of-merit is defined that may help guide more accurate Tauc fitting. For samples with relatively sharper Tauc plot shapes, the population yields Eg (ZnO) as 3.276 +/- 0.033 eV, in good agreement with data for single crystalline material. This is the accepted version of the following article: Viezbicke, B. This repository contains the necessary data for replicating the necessary information to replicate the study of "Exploring the Notion of Risk in Reviewer Recommendation." This code extends the RelationalGit package (https://github.com/CESEL/RelationalGit) from the study of E. Mirsaeedi and P. C. Rigby [1] and adds some functionality that is needed to incorporate the concept of the fix-inducing likelihood of a project. In addition to our dataset, this repository also have the supporting materials for our study. The supporting materials are in the "ICSME_online_materials_ICSME.pdf" and contains the following items: Table 1 contains the detail of the dataset and some related statistics for each of the studied projects. Table 2 have risk measures that were used in our defect prediction model. We use Commit Guru Tool to extracts the data from the GitHub repositories and then use this data to train our defect prediction model. Figure 1 illustrates the distribution of predicted defect probability of different projects. This distribution shows how defect probability of different periods are similar to the adjacent periods. Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Inglês: Estudos Linguísticos e Literários, Florianópolis, 2015.Abstract : The subject of the present study consists of an analysis of the implications of graphic violence in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (Spielberg and Hanks prods. 2001), more specifically whether violence can be regarded as adding layers of meaning to the narrative or as only emphasizing the technological innovations in re-creating the rough battlefield environment. In ten episodes, Band of Brothers depicts the hardships of Easy Company, a group of paratroopers during the Second World War, as they struggle to survive until the end of the war. The theme of brotherhood permeates the miniseries and becomes a significant feature in the violent sequences. The scene analysis will focus on instances of extreme body damage and mutilation in the episodes as notions of cinematography and mise-en-scene from David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson are applied. The reverberation of the violent act will be analyzed in relation to the episodic narrative and the miniseries as a whole, by taking into consideration Seymour Chatman's notion of kernel and satellite scenes. The intertwined relationship of violent images and narrative flow of Band of Brothers will demonstrate that by focusing on the physical and emotional reverberations caused by violence, instead of highlighting shock value, the miniseries offers the opportunity of reflection upon human behavior and fragility during ruthless times.O tema do presente estudo consiste na análise das implicações da violência gráfica na minissérie da HBO Band of Brothers (Spielberg e Hanks prods.

This cluster is assembled via bridging by mu eta(2):eta(2) peroxide anions between thorium centers. It decomposes upon removal from the mother liquor to yield Th(terpy)(NO3)(4) and Th(terpy)(NO3)(4)(EtOH). The peroxide formation appears to be radiolytic in origin and is, most likely, generated from radiolysis of water by short-lived daughters generated from Th-232 decay. This cluster does not form when freshly recrystallized Th(NO3)(4)center dot 5H(2)O is used as the starting material and requires an aged source of thorium. Analysis of the bonding in these clusters shows that, unlike uranium(VI) peroxide interactions, thorium(IV) complexation by peroxide is quite weak and largely ionic. This explains its much lower stability, which is more comparable to that observed in similar zirconium(IV) peroxide clusters
