More participation, choice making and meaningful activities in everyday life for people with intellectual disabilities? : Evaluation of Active Support and Frontline Practice Leadership in group homes in Sweden
No full textActive Support is an internationally well-researched staff practice to improve quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities living in group homes. However, research findings from Sweden are lacking about Active Support. The aim of this doctoral thesis was to investigate the two-year effect of Active Support, including Frontline Practice Leadership, in Swedish group homes for people with intellectual disabilities. Four group homes participated in this intervention project. A mixed methods approach was used, combining interviews with managers and service users, observations of leadership and staff-service users’ interactions and staff questionnaires. Data was collected on repeated occasions, both before and after the training, to evaluate the longitudinal effects of Active Support training. Results showed that better support was given in all four group homes after Active Support training. Services users said that their influence, choices and emotional support had improved. Observations over two years confirmed that staff-serviceusers’ interactions had improved with more activity and choices. Practice leadership, a part of Active Support, was important for working with Active Support and feedback sessions were particularly important to continuously develop staff support.This intervention project shows that Active Support is a promising staff practice that develops staff´s support skills in group homes in Sweden. These findings also show the importance that people with intellectual disabilities are heard when evaluating new staff practices
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textPersons with intellectual disability can be assumed to be particularly vulnerable to adverse consequen-ces of the Covid-19 pandemic. The increased risk of severe illness due to Covid-19, along with effects on social and community life, have very likely influenced persons with intellectual disability in unfo-reseen ways. The aim of this article is to identify how services and care for persons with intellectual disability in Sweden have been affected during the Covid-19 pandemic. Research questions addres-sed: (1) corona restrictions and consequences for persons with intellectual disabilities; (2) effects on support provided by staff and family members of persons with intellectual disability. An anonymous survey was distributed to 290 municipalities in Sweden and 33 privately owned care companies, and to relatives and family members through organizations within civil society. A total of 919 care-givers (340 relatives and 579 staff) completed the web-based survey during the period 25 August–27 September 2020. The results indicate that several aspects of daily life, with a specific focus on social relationships, have been affected, with several services cancelled or severely restricted during the first wave. A total of 661 respondents (77%) report restrictions in visits to and from family, whereas 629 (76%) report restrictions in visits to and from friends. Staff and family members report that daily activity centres have been cancelled or severely restricted (66.5%), as have social individual activities (73.5%) and individual training activities (75%). Other aspects reported are increases in negative psy-chological and physical health aspects, such as increased mood changes with episodes of depression and anxiety, less physical training and an increase in challenging behaviour. This study stresses the importance of developing specific preparations for possible future pandemic scenarios in order to pre-vent further isolation and negative health effects for persons with intellectual disability.</p

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
