Cross-sector Partnerships Models in Corporate Social Responsibility to Implement Poverty Reduction Initiatives in Indonesia

    No full text
In order to effectively align corporate social responsibility (CSR) with the poverty reduction agenda, corporations need to be more inclusive and collaborative with other actors. Cross-sector partnerships in the implementation of CSR have been an emerging approach and practice, as promoted by public administration scholars. Key actors in the partnerships may come from the government, civil society represented by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and corporations. However, designing successful effective partnerships that are relevant to cross-sector dynamics and political contexts has been proven to be particularly challenging, especially in emerging economies and new democracies, such as Indonesia. This paper provides key characteristics of effective cross-sector partnerships that have been derived from an examination of three case studies in Indonesia and Tanzania. They represent cross-sector partnerships with differing scope and depth. Throughout this paper, one can observe and extract key characteristics of effective partnerships based on three case studies of which a model for each is described. In particular, characteristics utilized for assessing the effectiveness of the models include ownership, alignment and synchronization, accountability, reduced dependency, resource sharing, along with representation and legitimacy

Leadership is essential in promoting democratic citizenship; this is also true at the village government level. Using the experience of Panggungharjo Village, Bantul, this paper tries to understand the role of leadership in supporting the fulfillment of citizens’ rights within the context of Law 6/2014 on Villages. Based on interviews and field observations conducted between October and November 2016, this paper finds that transactional and transformational leadership approaches, conceptualised by Burns (1978) and applied in Panggungharjo, influence the effective provision of public service and welfare. When used complementary and strategically, the two leadership styles determine the effectiveness of village leadership and reform initiatives. Indeed, there is an issue of power that is crucial to take into account. In comprehending this important aspect, Lukes’s (1974, 2005) concept of power dimensions is helpful. His diagram of power consists of tangible power engineering (First Dimension), a new system of procedures that create barriers for potential political opponents (Second Dimension), and the enactment of new norms (Third Dimension). In Panggungharjo, the village head’s leadership, approach has been widely recognised as one of the success stories in Indonesian village governance. Nevertheless, the findings suggest that this effective and functioning government has led to leadership practice that has created citizens who are “beneficiaries” rather than “shapers and makers” (Cornwall & Gaventa 2001; Gaventa, 2002, 2004). This outcome may not optimally underpin active citizenship, as active citizens are a prerequisite to promoting democratic citizenship

Muslim Ban during Trump’s Presidency through the Target Population Framework

One of the controversies that defined Donald Trump’s presidency was his travel ban policy, which targeted immigrants from many Muslim-majority countries in 2017. While researchers have analyzed the rhetoric, discourse, and indirect speech acts of President Trump and American politicians to fully understand the enforcement of the travel ban, the number of studies investigating how politicians utilize the social construction of immigrants to support or oppose the travel ban is limited. Hence, it is crucial to thoroughly study how political actors socially construct immigrants to justify their policy positions on the travel ban. In this article, we contextualize the travel ban policy within the literature on the social construction of target populations, one of the prominent theories of policy processes. To that end, we examine four types of data sources: legal documents, relevant tweets posted by politicians, think tank publications (op-eds, releases, and commentaries), and news articles published during the travel ban debates. In light of our analysis, we find that not only policymakers but also members of the judicial system, news media sources, and think tanks construct immigrant identities in a way that justifies their policy positions on the travel ban. Our findings underscore the need for a nuanced and well-rounded debate on travel restrictions concerning the reconstruction and reimagination of immigrant identities by various actors. We also contend that future research could greatly benefit from analyzing the social construction of immigrants by different policy actors in a comparative fashion

In particular, characteristics utilized for assessing the effectiveness of the models include ownership, alignment and synchronization, accountability, reduced dependency, resource sharing, along with representation and legitimacy. Keywords: corporate social responsibility, cross-sector partnership, poverty reduction  Abstrak.

Purpose – Character cultivation and development is a major study in modern education today. Islamic character education has become one of the interesting topics in the discussion. This study examines data mapping and networking about Islamic character education in the Scopus journal database. Design/methods/approach – This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a total of 204 selected articles related to Islamic character education. All the published journals have a publication range of the last 13 years, from 2010 to 2023. The authors exported data through software and then processed and analyzed them by using VOSviewer software to find networking maps based on co-author, co-occurrence, and co-citation. Findings – The study results found three significant themes related to the object and results of Islamic character education research, publishers who publish journals, and theoretical citations used by researchers of Islamic character education article journals. Of the three results, the first point related to publication documents is dominated by countries with majority Muslim populations, namely Indonesia and Malaysia. Meanwhile, the second and third points are dominated by Western countries. Another important finding in this study was the keywords found have used many words, such as character education, Islamic education, religion, and Islamic religious education. Research implications/limitations – The results of this study still have limitations on the number of limited publications, subjectivity in analyzing efforts, and incomplete analysis programs. Originality/value – This research can be a reference for future research that is expected to be more comprehensive in designing the research design so as to produce more complete findings
