ASEP Pilot Wave 1 (2023) (SUF edition)
Full edition for scientific use. The Austrian Socio-Economic Panel (ASEP) is a multi-topic, large-scale, annually conducted, ongoing longitudinal survey, that collects data on the household and individual level, representative for the Austrian population living in private households. This dataset contains the survey data of the first wave of the ASEP, conducted as a smaller-scale pilotstudy in the year 2023, with a net sample size of ~2660 persons living in ~1300 households. You will find data on the household, on each person living in the household and their relations to each other. As the ASEP aims for enabling research for all social science disciplines, the topics in this first wave of the pilotstudy are very broad. The topics range from family, work, income, housing, education, and health to attitudes, values, and behavior about different aspects of personality, life, and society. Data was collected during October 2023 and February 2024 via tailored mixed-mode design, that led to a 54% CAPI and 46% CAWI mode composition of the net sample. The invited households were randomly selected from the Central Register of Main Residence in Austria. All household members age 15 and above were given a personal questionnaire. For household members age 14 and below, a questionnaire on child-related topics was given to their legal guardians. Furthermore, to one representative of the household (age 18 and above), a questionnaire on household-related topics was given. Destined for Destitution : Intergenerational Poverty Persistence in Indonesia
We estimate intergenerational poverty persistence in Indonesia using a panel dataset. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such study looking at the issue in the Indonesian context. Different from the majority of studies on this issue, we include controls for several household and individual characteristics, including for living arrangements. Moreover, to circumvent data issues that plague earnings data in developing countries, we use chronic poverty status as a long-term parental welfare measure. We find there is a substantial intergenerational mobility away from poverty among children from poor households. However, the risk of continuing to live in poverty as adults is 35 percentage points higher for children from chronically poor households than for children from households which are not chronically poor.chronic poverty, intergenerational mobility, children, welfare, Indonesia
Editorial: Exaggerated claims used in marketing: ASEP`s commitment to preventingunethical presentation of research data
In the May 2001 issue of the J Exerc Physiolonline, Armstrong et al.[1] published a study on the use of a\ud
commercial thermogenic weight-loss supplement (Xenadrine RFA-1, Cytodyne Technologies) on body\ud
composition and energy expenditure in obese subjects. The authors of this study presented their data in an\ud
ethical fashion. However, subsequent use of the study findings for marketing of the product revealed claims\ud
that were not substantiated by the research published in our journal. Subsequent discussions by the managing\ud
editor of the journal, myself and the ASEP president revealed frustration for this occurrence, as well as an\ud
apparent inability to require the company to withdraw marketing claims due to the lack of regulations requiring\ud
companies to adhere to the stringent criteria used in scientific research. Added details of this incident are found\ud
in Tommy Boone’s recent manuscript in PEPonline..
SENSE OF VIRTUAL COMMUNITY PADA KOMUNITAS ASEP-ASEP (KAA)
Dimana penggunaan CMC yang maksimal mampu menjaga interaksi online antara setiap anggota berjalan dengan baik. kemudian pertemuan memperkuat SOVC yang telah terbentuk.;---Technology has changed the way how people communicate. With the presence of technology and internet make interactions between people are easier. By communicating through gadget or device which has develop. This phenomenon brings on the appearance of vitual communities. One of them is Komunitas Asep-Asep (KAA) which is formed online. Research on the concept of virtual community is still something new in Indonesia. And also there were statement that virtual community which is formed online is less of cohesiveness. Therefore researcher examine how the sense of virtual community in KAA. By examining how the uses of CMC and then how they build Sense of virtual community in KAA. And also the relation between both of it. The result has found that interaction between member of KAA is dominate with online communication by using synchronous mode. In the meeting who is represented by interaction in Whatsapp chat room, was found how the processes of constructing SOVC in KAA. That processes is how each member do identification, make a deeper relationship, help each other with the forme of communication link between every Asep, and also the frequently offline gathering. Using of CMC has a relation with the processes of SOVC establishment in KAA. Which is the uses of CMC can keep the interaction between each member run well. meanwhile offline meeting develop SOVC that has formed before
Second Class Particle Behaviour in Blocking ASEP
We consider any fixed number of second class particles in the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP), constructed via a basic coupling of two ASEPs. We give the joint distribution of the positions of the second class particles and also the probability of there being a second class particle at a given site, under the natural blocking measure for ASEP. In order to find these distributions we use results about the number of particles in half-infinite and finite site ranges of ASEP. Our investigations also lead to probabilistic proofs of well-known combinatorial identities; the Durfee rectangles identity, Euler's identity, and the -Binomial Theorem

The open ASEP with light particles
We consider the stationary measure of the open asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) with light particles. We prove several results on the asymptotic locations of the light particles under the stationary measure. Moreover, in the fan region of the high and low density phases, we study the mixing times for open ASEP with light particles. Our approach involves the matrix product ansatz, Askey-Wilson signed measures, moderate deviation results for second class particles, as well as various coupling arguments. Along the way we obtain the particle densities at single sites for the standard open ASEP without light particles, which are of independent interest.30 pages, 5 figure
