Editorial: Use of neuroimaging techniques for the prevention, assessment, and treatment of mood disorders
Pharmacological treatment of mixed states
Mixed states in bipolar disorder have been neglected, and the data concerning treatment of these conditions have been relatively obscure. To address this, we systematically reviewed published pharmacological treatment data for "mixed states/episodes" in mood disorders, including "with mixed features" in DSM-5. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library, clinicaltrials.gov, and controlled-trials.com (with different combinations of the following keywords: "mixed states/features," "bipolar," "depressive symptoms/bipolar depression," "manic symptoms," "treatment," "DSM-5") through to October 2016. We applied a quality-of-evidence approach: first-degree evidence=randomized placebo-controlled studies of pharmacological interventions used as monotherapy; second-degree evidence=a similar design in the absence of a placebo or of a combination therapy as a comparative group; third-degree evidence=case reports, case series, and reviews of published studies. We found very few primary double-blind, placebo-controlled studies on the treatment of mixed states: the preponderance of available data derives from subgroup analysis performed on studies that originally involved manic patients. Future research should study the effects of treatments in mixed states defined using current criteria

La prospettiva pluralistica e multiculturale in Danilo Zolo
This essay takes into consideration the pluralistic perspective in Danilo
Zolo’s thought, dealing with the way in which the multiculturalist theme is situated
in the legal-philosophical reflection of the author. In this regard, the article underlines
a pioneering attention to multiculturalism as a theoretical approach inextricably
linked to the political and legal dimension. The analysis will focus on the connection
between the multiculturalist instance and Zolo’s substantive approach on citizenship,
in the context of a discourse on the concept of national belonging. Finally, within a
brief dialogue with Danilo Zolo starting from the Canadian experience, the paper aims
to highlight the difference between an analytical and interpretative horizon focused
on the crisis of the monistic Nation-State and a radical disarticulation of national
citizenship
Pisanie Ojca. „Gen schulzowski” w prozie Danilo Kiša
Danilo Kiš claimed that his favorite works of other writers not only contributed to his own books as their “ancestors,” but also became parts of his spiritual DNA. The author makes an attempt at finding the “Schulzean gene” in The Family Circus and reveal the invisible presence of Schulz in other works by Kiš. Schulz has not been mentioned there, but he remains “present through his absence,” just like Kiš’s father, the protagonist of Hourglass, called “a novel about absence.
Early Christian Bird-shaped Fibulae in the Light of Unpublished Finds from Danilo and Podumci
S obzirom na činjenicu da su analizirane fibule pronađene zajedno s germanskim nalazima, te na temelju usporednih primjeraka sa šireg prostora Europe, autor fibule iz Podumaca i Danila datira u razdoblje 5. ili 6. st.The author analyzes two unpublished bird-shaped fibulae found by Dane Maretić in the wider area of the Šibenik hinterland, more precisely on the sites of Danilo – Gradina (Hillfort) and Podumci – Maretića umac. The fibula from Danilo is kept in the Museum Collection of the Monastery on Visovac, while the one from Podumci is in the possession of the finder. The fibulae are made of bronze in full sculpture and they depict birds with folded wings. The plate fibulae are also briefly described in the work as the author believes that they belong to the same cultural and chronological horizon. The opinion is put forward that the plastically rendered fibulae depict a pigeon or a turtle-dove, which is connected with Christian symbolism. Considering the fact that the analyzed fibulae were found together with Germanic finds, and based on comparative pieces from the wider territory of Europe, the author dates the fibulae from Podumci and Danilo to the period of the 5th or 6th cent. Review of the use of Topiramate for treatment of psychiatric disorders
Abstract Background Topiramate is a new antiepileptic drug, originally designed as an oral hypoglycaemic subsequently approved as anticonvulsant. It has increasingly been used in the treatment of numerous psychiatric conditions and it has also been associated with weight loss potentially relevant in reversing weight gain induced by psychotropic medications. This article reviews pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile of topiramate, its biological putative role in treating psychiatric disorders and its relevance in clinical practice. Methods A comprehensive search from a range of databases was conducted and papers addressing the topic were selected. Results Thirty-two published reports met criteria for inclusion, 4 controlled and 28 uncontrolled studies. Five unpublished controlled studies were also identified in the treatment of acute mania. Conclusions Topiramate lacks efficacy in the treatment of acute mania. Increasing evidence, based on controlled studies, supports the use of topiramate in binge eating disorders, bulimia nervosa, alcohol dependence and possibly in bipolar disorders in depressive phase. In the treatment of rapid cycling bipolar disorders, as adjunctive treatment in refractory bipolar disorder in adults and children, schizophrenia, posttraumatic stress disorder, unipolar depression, emotionally unstable personality disorder and Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome the evidence is entirely based on open label studies, case reports and case series. Regarding weight loss, findings are encouraging and have potential implications in reversing increased body weight, normalisation of glycemic control and blood pressure. Topiramate was generally well tolerated and serious adverse events were rare.</p
