Power electronics applied to industrial systems and transports.
If the operation of electronic components switching scheme to reduce congestion and losses (in power converters in general and switching power supplies in particular), it also generates electromagnetic type of pollution in its immediate environment. Power Electronics for Industry and Transport, Volume 4 is devoted to electromagnetic compatibility. It presents the sources of disturbance and the square wave signal, spectral modeling generic perturbation. Disturbances propagation mechanisms called "lumped" by couplings such as a common impedance, a parasitic capacitance or a mutual and "distributed constant", for which the spatial-temporal character must be taken into account, are also covered.Includes bibliographical references and index.Print version record.Introduction to EMC -- Lumped Parameter Models -- Distributed Element Models. If the operation of electronic components switching scheme to reduce congestion and losses (in power converters in general and switching power supplies in particular), it also generates electromagnetic type of pollution in its immediate environment. Viable plastics recycling from end-of-life electronics
Millions of end-of-life (EOL) electronic products represent more than one million tons of engineering thermoplastics. The economically and environmentally sound recovery of engineering thermoplastics from EOL electronics is a challenge to the sustainability of electronics manufacturing. In this paper, we review the technologies to separate and identify pure post-consumer plastics from EOL electronics, which are followed by the comparison of electronic plastics recycling processes and the network models for plastics recycling processes. We also review successful plastics recycling practices for electronics. In addition, further research directions for recycling plastics from EOL electronics are discussed.Journal Articl
Global Production Networks in Electronics and Intra-Asian Trade
The growth of East Asia’s intra-regional trade is driven largely by increased component trade within global electronics production networks. Data on both electronics trade and production elucidate a pattern of specialization in which upper- and middle-income countries produce sophisticated components and lower-income countries assemble lowervalue- added final goods. There is evidence of increasing sophistication within the electronics sector by the Newly Industrialized Economies and to a lesser extent by ASEAN countries. Despite the marked increase in intra-regional trade, developing East Asian countries remain heavily dependent on developed-country markets. When Western export demand rapidly contracted during the 2008-2009 economic crisis, these specialization patterns led the rapid iffusion of the business cycle shock throughout the East Asian region.Global production networks; electronics; Asian trade; business cycle transmission; global economic crisis
China and the Future of Asian Electronics Trade
China’s emergence as a key player in the global electronics industry has ignited concerns among its East Asian neighbors. Upper and middle-income economies fear that China’s rise is hollowing out their electronics industrial base. Lower-income economies worry that they cannot compete with China’s seemingly endless supply of cheap labor. In this chapter, we describe the forces behind China’s rise in electronics, and we consider the implications for regional electronics trade and production patterns. Using a unique world electronics production data set, we investigate the upgrading trajectories of East Asian economies within the industry. Consistent with the theory of international production fragmentation, we find that Japan and the NIEs have a more sophisticated production mix than their lower-income neighbors. These latter economies, however, are upgrading their electronics industries more rapidly. China, trade, technological upgrading, electronics, Chine, commerce, perfectionnement technologique, électronique
Modular Battery Management System for Power Electronics Practical Laboratory Lessons
Current engineering bachelor degrees usually suffer from a lack of finalist content, and also a suitable orientation to the real practical professional activities. This work addresses the implementation of a project-based methodology using a fully functional modular battery management system (BMS) for 'Power Electronics' practical laboratory lessons, combining the knowledge and specifications of three related subjects taught in the last course of 'Automatic and Electronic Industrial Engineering' bachelor degree
PHY415 : Physics VI: Electronics / Faculty of Applied Science
This course will interactively engage students cognitively and scientifically in introductory-level knowledge of electronics with the focus on TTL/CMOS-based digital electronics. It starts with the essential knowledge of digital concepts and circuits and simple interfacing of integrated circuit to analog devices. Students also will define the concepts of introductory knowledge of basic analogue electronic devices used in conjunction with digital circuit and the use of computers in interfacing. Lab exercises cover minimum technical knowledge and skill required for implementing simple electronic and interfacing circuits as a part of application of electronics. The outcomes shall be accessed through a variety of tools which include paper examination, viva, and test and classroom engagement
Last Upgrades of Roman Pot Electronics
This article presents the recent (2017-2018) electronics modifications for the upgrade o the TOTEM roman pot detectors at the CERN LHC. To improve the timing accuracy and reliability the new Roman Pot detector configuration utilizes both DSDD (Double Side Diamond Detector) an silicon (UFSD, Ultra Fast Silicon Detector) mounted on hybrid boards. The electronics described was designed, built and tested by the authors in Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Pilse Department of Applied Electronics and Telecommunications, University of West Bohemia and by the TOTEM experiment at CERN. With the new detector setup, timing measurements with resolution down to tens of picoseconds are possible
Global Production Networks and Industrial Upgrading in China: The Case in Electronics Contract Manufacturing.
The paper analyzes the networks of U.S. and Taiwan based electronics contract manufacturers in South China, today the world´s most important location for low-cost mass production in the electronics industry. Based on extensive empirical research, the paper traces the production sites, the organization of manufacturing, and the workforce policies of contract manufacturers in the region, and discusses perspectives and limits of industrial upgrading, especially with regard to the role of labor. In theoretical terms, the author attempts to integrate an analysis of "global flagship networks" with concepts of industrial sociology.
Foreign Direct Investment and Electronics Exports: Exploratory Empirical Evidence from Malaysia's Top Five Electronics Exports
The foreign direct investment (FDI) has contributed significantly to Malaysia's electronics exports as well as the growth and development of the electronics industry as a result of the export-oriented industrialization initiatives undertaken since 1970s. The aim of this study is to explore the causation between FDI and electronics exports by using Malaysia''s top five electronics exports by SITC (Standard International Trade Classification) product groups. The findings show a bi-directional causality between FDI and exports of semiconductor devices in the short run. The present study provides important policy implications towards the competitiveness of electronics exports and also promoting and targeting FDI inflows into key and priority growth in the electronics sub-sectors.
