Achmatowa i Liebert : wokół wiersza Vysokie svody kostela...

    No full text
The paper examines a poem by Anna Akhmatova Высокие своды костела… as translated by Jerzy Liebert. This translation was not included in any volume released in Liebert’s lifetime. It came out posthumously. The author of the article evokes broad biographical context inscribed in the poem by the Russian poet and also compares Liebert’s rendition of the poem with the one that appeared at the same time by Józef Kramsztyk. The Polish poet’s rendition of the poems seems to be a mere sketch; however, it shows Libert’s fascination with the Russian poetry of the Silver Age – symbolic and going beyond the principles of this trend

Practices of spirituality according to Elizabeth Liebert : approximation to her thinking and exemplification in a case study

    No full text
Abstract: The objective of this article is to establish the meaning of «practices of spirituality» according to Elizabeth Liebert and to see an application of this expression in a case study. After introducing the author to the chosen concept and highlighting its importance, focus will be placed on a definition-description of what a practice of spirituality would be for Liebert and from that perspective the points of contact between pastoral theology and spirituality as academic discipline will be analyzed, as well as the relationship between practice and experience and the role of practices in the development of spirituality as an academic discipline. In this first part four of Liebert’s writings will be especially followed. In a second moment, we’ll try to explain how Liebert’s concepts on practices of spirituality could be applied in a case study

How Can Activity Monitors Be Used in Palliative Care Patients?

Copyright 2019, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers“Final publication is available from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers http://dx.doi.org/10.1089/jpm.2018.0414” This author accepted manuscript is made available following 12 month embargo from date of publication (March 2019) in accordance with the publisher’s archiving policyBackground: Physical activity in palliative care patients is closely linked to independence, function, carer burden, prognosis, and quality of life. Changes in physical activity can also be related to service provision needs, including requirements for support and prognosis. However, the objective measurement of physical activity is challenging, with options, including self-report, invasive and intensive measures such as calorimetry, or newer options such as pedometers and accelerometers. This latter option is also becoming more viable with the advent of consumer technology driven by the health and exercise industry. Objective: In this article, we highlight our experiences of activity monitoring in palliative care patients as part of telehealth trial. We also highlight the strengths and limitations of activity monitoring in the palliative care population and potential applications. Conclusions: Although the advent of consumer technology for activity measurement makes their use seem attractive in clinical settings for palliative care patients, there are a number of issues that must be considered, in particular the reason for the activity monitoring and associated limitations in the technology

Where in the Genome Are Significant Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms from Genome-Wide Association Studies Located?

    No full text
Recent technological progress has permitted the efficient performance of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to map genetic variants associated with common diseases. Here, we analyzed 2,893 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that have been identified in 593 published GWAS as associated with a disease phenotype with respect to their genomic location. In absolute numbers, most significant SNPs are located in intergenic regions and introns. When compared to their representation on the chips, there is essentially overrepresentation of nonsynonymous coding SNPs (nsSNPs), synonymous coding SNPs, and SNPs in untranscribed regions upstream of genes among the disease associated SNPs. A Gene Ontology term analysis showed that genes putatively causing a phenotype often code for membrane associated proteins or signal transduction genes.</p

Educational gerontology: Health behavior of elderly African-American women

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to provide a research-based context for examining the health behavior and educational needs of elderly African American women. To describe this phenomenon, a sample of 182 African American women over age 55 was drawn from the 1986 National Survey of Access to Health Care Telephone Survey of 10,130 noninstutitionalized persons in the United States. The research reported in this study attempts to answer the following basic questions: (1) Does health insurance coverage affect health care utilization? (2) Does attitude toward the health care system affect health care utilization? (3) Does income affect health care utilization? (4) How does health status effect health care utilization? The results of this study suggest that effective health education should aid in reducing the extent of need for health services and supplement the efforts of health care providers in promoting the health of this population.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T11:51:35Z (GMT). Europa erneuern! Eine realistische Vision für das 21. Jahrhundert

    No full text
In the rapidly changing globalized world, the European Union is showing signs of fatigue. Economic conflicts and identity crises are a drain on its self-image. Its central idea as "an ever closer union of the peoples of Europe" seems to have come out of step, and its withdrawal into the national sphere is not sustainable. If the European unification project is to prevail, it must be relaunched. To "renew Europe" means to develop a vision for the 21st century which disenchants Euro-skeptical myths as well as ideals and which strengthens Europe's potential. The author shows: An upgrade of democracy in the EU is necessary and the innovative development of the Convention approach is possible if the model of a transnational European Republic is to be realized

Pytania stawiane sobie? „Do poety” Jerzego Lieberta – próba lektury

    No full text
In its pastiche character of a poetic colloquim with the author of Srebrne i czarne [Silver and Black], a poem by Jerzy Liebert Do poety [To the Poet] introduces two counter- effects: his own self-portrait and a portrait of Lechoń. This gesture of the portraitist discloses something irritatingly dispatching and, at the same time, disturbingly concealing. Not only does Liebert raise doubts (“what if…”), basically framing his artistic self-consciousness, but also liberates himself from the cumbersome protection of Skamander. This temerity of looking into poetic looking-glasses, one’s own and those of others, allows him to rich full independence of artistic means, which will reveal itself in the later artistic period
