NF-κB Mediates the Expression of TBX15 in Cancer Cells.
No full textTBX15 is a T-box transcription factor essential for development, also proposed as a marker in prostate cancer; and, recently, its antiapoptotic function indicates a role in carcinogenesis. Regulation of TBX15 is uncovered. In this study, we investigated the regulation of TBX15 expression in human cancer cells, by analyzing the regulatory function of a 5'-distal conserved region of TBX15. Bisulfite sequencing showed high methylation of the CpG island contained in this region that was not correlated with TBX15 mRNA levels, in the cancer cell lines analyzed; however, after 5-aza-dC treatment of TPC-1 cells an increase of TBX15 expression was observed. We also found a significant response of TBX15 to TNF-α activation of the NF-κB pathway using five cancer cell lines, and similar results were obtained when NF-κB was activated with PMA/ionomycin. Next, by luciferase reporter assays, we identified the TBX15 regulatory region containing two functional NF-κB binding sites with response to NF-κBp65, mapping on the -3302 and -3059 positions of the TBX15 gene. Moreover, a direct interaction of NF-κBp65 with one of the two NF-κB binding sites was indicated by ChIP assays. In summary, we provide novel data showing that NF-κB signaling up-regulates TBX15 expression in cancer cells. Furthermore, the link between TBX15 and NF-κB found in this study may be important to understand cancer and development processes
A decentralized approach for enabling advanced ancillary services through distributed energy sources
No full textThis thesis reports the results carried out by the author during the three-year activities of the XXXV cycle of the Ph.D. course in Electrical and Information Engineering at Politecnico di Bari. The main goal of this work was to implement a decentralized approach to enable the provision of Ancillary Services (AS) by means of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).
As a first step, an analysis of Regulations, Directives, and Network Codes at the national and European level was carried out to define the future framework of the electricity market. In addition, papers and technical reports concerning eight European projects, such as SmarNet, CoordiNet, FLEXCoop, OSMOSE, inteGRIDy, eDREAM, ADDRESS, and evolvDSO have been analyzed with the aim to define the state of the art about the provision of AS by means of DERs. In particular, a set of coordination schemes was identified from those proposed in the literature to coordinate the use of DERs among Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs). These coordination schemes are classified into centralized and decentralized architectures, depending on the possibility of System Operators of managing their respective networks. In addition, the main methodologies proposed in the literature to perform optimal dispatch of flexibility resources in a TSO-DSO coordination framework, taking technical and grid constraints into account, have been identified and presented.
In order to enable DERs in AS provision and coordinate system operators in their usage, a few methodologies suitable for decentralized architectures were developed and presented in this work. In particular, a new algorithm based on a three-phase optimal power flow routine for mapping the flexibility area at the point of interconnection (POI) between transmission and distribution grids was provided. Furthermore, two alternative methodologies to aggregate flexibility resources located in distribution networks interfaced with the TN in multiple POIs were described. In addition, a Benders decomposition algorithm able to optimize TN and DN flexibility resources for congestion management in a few decentralized coordination schemes was also implemented. The proposed methodologies were validated by means of simulation tests conducted on a power system including transmission and distribution grids.
The last part of this thesis investigated how innovative grid services, such as Synthetic Inertia (SI) and Fast Frequency Response (FFR), may be also provided through fast control dispatchable resources located at the distribution grid level. With this aim, a low-cost controller for end-user applications able to generate a SI law for dispatchable DERs was developed and tested through Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) tests. Similarly, PHIL tests were also carried out to investigate the capability of LED lamps of public lighting systems to be controlled with the aim to provide SI and FFR actions. Alcuni interventi diretti di Apollonio Rodio nelle Argonautiche
No full textIn Spite of the well-known impersonality of archaic epic poetry Apollonius of Rhodes in some passages of his poem deliberately infringes this convention to comment events or actions. Although these interventions don’t provide us with biographical details of Apollonius’ life, the poet shows a precise pessimistic attitude towards life, love and human existence. Moreover the author probably inherits from Pindar narrative technique the use of “ break-off formulas” which represents an original contribution of the Alexandrian poet to the renewal of traditional epic poetry.Contrariamente alla ben documentata impersonalità della poesia epica arcaica, Apollonio Rodio in alcuni passi del poema deliberatamente infrange questa convenzione per commentare fatti e azioni. Benché questi interventi non contengano dettagli utili alla ricostruzione della biografi a del poeta, Apollonio sembra mostrare una ben definita visione pessimistica della vita, dell’amore e, in generale, dell’esistenza umana. Va aggiunto che l’autore deriva probabilmente da Pindaro la tecnica narrativa del break-off formulas (o, usando la terminologia tedesca Abbruchsformeln), fatto che rappresenta senza dubbio un originale contributo del poeta alessandrino al rinnovamento della poesia epica tradizionale.Allant à l’encontre du bien documenté caractère impersonnel de la poésie épique archaïque, Apollonios de Rhodes rompt délibérément avec cette convention dans certains passages de son poème, afin de commenter faits et actions. Bien que ces interventions n’apportent aucun élément utile à la reconstitution de la biographie du poète, Apollonios semble faire preuve d’une vision nettement pessimiste de la vie, de l’amour et, plus généralement, de la condition humaine. En outre, l’auteur emprunte probablement à Pindare la technique narrative du break-off formulas (ou en faisant appel à la terminologie allemande, Abbruchsformeln), en apportant ainsi une contribution originale au renouveau de la poésie épique traditionnelle.Manuello Patrick. The author of this paper considers that ˂T˃ could be an approximative grapheme denoting /tg/. This assumption implies that /tg/ would have existed in Rhodian at least as far back as the fifth century B.C. una superficie complessiva di circa 1.400 ha all’interno dei quali sono tutelati
sia i cospicui resti dell’antica città di Akragas, fondata nel VI sec. a.C.
da coloni rodio-cretesi provenienti dalla colonia di Gela in Sicilia, sia il paesaggio
agricolo e forestale di contesto. La particolare natura giuridica del
Parco prevede, unitamente alla tutela dei reperti archeologici, anche la
salvaguardia dei valori paesaggistici e ambientali del territorio, espressione
dei paesaggi agricoli siciliani tradizionali caratterizzati dalla presenza
di vigneti, oliveti e mandorleti, riconoscendo la salvaguardia del contesto
nel quale i reperti sono inseriti come condizione essenziale alla conservazione
e alla valorizzazione del patrimonio archeologico. Il testo analizza le
varie fasi che hanno caratterizzato la tutela del patrimonio archeologico
e paesaggistico della Valle, conteso tra le esigenze della salvaguardia e le

cittadini di Dignano e dell’Istria poterono avvantaggiarsi di un Ospitale e di una
Scuola Agraria. La fondazione di questi due enti, espressa da Angelo Cecon nel proprio
testamento e prolungatasi negli anni a cavallo tra il XIX e XX sec. a causa di interessi
privati e pubblici, risolse per un cinquantennio il problema dell’assistenza sanitaria delle
persone povere e anziane, nonché l’istruzione degli agricoltori dignanesi.Angelo Cecon, porijeklom iz Karnije (Furlanija), rodio se u Vodnjanu
1830. u obitelji koja je emigrirala u Istru krajem 18. stoljeća. Vodnjanska
grana obitelji Cecon izumrla je 1883. nakon smrti Angelovog sina Antonija.
Angelo Cecon, posjednik i trgovac, ostavio je građanima većinu svoje
imovine uz jasnu želju da se ona iskoristi za utemeljenje jedne bolnice i
poljoprivredne škole. Privatni i javni interesi usporili su osnivanje navedenih
ustanova, ali je njihovim nastajanjem riješen problem zdravstvene zaštite
starijih i siromašnih osoba te školovanje vodnjanskih poljoprivrednika
za pedesetak narednih godina. U ovom se radu posebna pažnja posvećuje
neobjavljenim dokumentima o „slučaju Cecon“, među kojima su oporuka
dobročinitelja i ona njegovog sina Antonija koji je umro u dvadesetoj godini
života, bez djece. Ključna ličnost zbivanja bio je javni bilježnik Pietro Sbisà,
koji je imenovan za skrbnika sina Antonija, kasnijeg nasljednika. Protiv
njega se usprotivila Općina Vodnjan kao upravitelj Ceconovih fundacija
Globalization and performance of microfinance institutions in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia for the periods 2004-2013
No full textThe researchers have examined how social and economic globalization affects MFI performance. As developed countries were able to cope with globalization, the researchers would want to know how globalization has an impact to microfinance institutions most especially in emerging countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia. The results of the study show that social and economic globalization somehow has a positive effect on an MFI\u27s return on assets. Operational self sufficiency is affected by economic globalization. On the other hand, social and economic globalization do not have significant effects on average loan and number of borrowers. The study also shows that there are other factors that contribute to the performance of MFIs including capital asset ratio, gross domestic product, efficiency, size, risk, age, inflation and female borrowers rate. The study therefore contributes to the growing knowledge of the effects of globalization in relation to microfinance institutions

No full textNell’ottavo libro della Tebaide di Stazio è incastonato l’episodio di Atys e Ismene, che è un caso paradigmatico di ‘invenzione’ staziana e di riscrittura del mito. Stazio gareggia con i modelli più diversi, ma parte da uno spunto narrativo presente già nell’Iliade e nell’Eneide, quello del giovane pretendente che trova la morte prima delle nozze. Ad una lettura attenta e consapevole non sfuggono reminiscenze da Apollonio Rodio, Seneca, Ovidio, a testimonianza dell’arte raffinata e complessa dell’autore.In the eighth book of the Thebaid of Statius is set the episode of Atys and Ismene, that is a paradigmatic case of 'invention' of Statius and rewrite of the myth. Statius competes with the most different models, but he is inspired by a narrative cue in the Iliad and in the Aeneid, that of the young suitor who found dead before the wedding. Za tu zemlju Bog se zakleo da će je dati Izrailskom narodu. I Gospod je to obećanje ispunio, ali radi greha Izrailjskog naroda oni su je izgubili. I danas se opet u nju vraćaju.I am grateful to the Lord for allowing me to see that land where prophets, emperors, apostles, and the Lord himself lived. Jesus Christ was born there, lived there, and suffered for us. For that land, God swore to give it to the people of Israel.
