Apoliprotein A-IV as a new possible molecular “tool” to understand feline hepatic lipidosis physiopathology

    No full text
Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (FHL) represents one of the most common metabolic disorders in cats. Apolipoprotein (apo) A-IV is a protein known to participate in the regulation of various metabolic pathways, with special regards to lipid metabolism. The present study demonstrates a relation between hepatic lipid content and apo A-IV expression in rat and cat liver, opening a fascinating\ud innovative hypothesis on FHL pathogenesis.\ud Livers from cats (5) and rats (8) were processed to determine hepatic lipid content using Mojonnier method. Apo A-IV liver protein expression was assessed by ELISA using liver tissue extracts. Finally, samples of all livers were processed for histopathology and immunohistochemistry to confirm previously obtained results.\ud Data show an interesting inverse proportion between hepatic lipid content and apo A-IV liver expression, highlighting differences between cat and rat lipid metabolism. Applying this comparative experimental approach, we suggest an innovative pathogenetic hypothesis which involves apo A-IV as a “new actor” molecule involved in FHL determinism and its potential role as a prodromal serological diagnostic marker

Innovative Architecture for Industrial Monitoring System

This thesis aims to develop a new innovative architecture for monitoring and SCADA systems able to centralize data and support data analytics for ideally every kind of productions. The core of the innovation is the definition and management inside the platform of a JSON configuration which describe the machine or the plant to be monitored. The state of the art gives a complete landscape about how technologies have evolved since the born of web and which of them have been applied in distributed system such as web monitoring systems. One of the most important topics here are the communication protocols, new generation of high performance databases and the purpose of machine learning algorithms in order to improve maintenance activities and support decision making process. Then the architecture of the system has been presented paying attention on the concept of reconfigurability and customization of the platform. This is done by configuring the machines by means a JSON descriptor that indicates which data collect in the system. An appendix explains in deep how the JSON configuration works and which parameters the user can manipulate in order to increase the precision and the performance of the system. Systems like the one proposed can be used in vary different ways and the thesis wants to analyze some of them and proposing solutions describing real case studies. These case studies regard quality check on the production line (online or offline), data collection for production scheduling and whole monitoring systems for textile application

A Fast Multi-model Approach for Object Duplicate Extraction

    No full text
This paper presents an innovative approach for localizingand segmenting duplicate objects for industrial applications. The working conditions are challenging, withcomplex heavily-occluded objects, arranged at random inthe scene. To account for high flexibility and processingspeed, this approach exploits SIFT keypoint extraction andmean shift clustering to efficiently partition the correspondencesbetween the object model and the duplicates ontothe different object instances. The re-projection (by meansof an Euclidean transform) of some delimiting points ontothe current image is used to segment the object shapes. Thisprocedure is compared in terms of accuracy with existinghomography-based solutions which make use of RANSACto eliminate outliers in the homography estimation. Moreover,in order to improve the extraction in the case of reflectiveor transparent objects, multiple object models are usedand fused together. Experimental results on different andchallenging kinds of objects are reported

Multiple Object Segmentation for Pick-and-Place Applications

This paper presents a novel approach for detecting multipleinstances of the same object for pick-and-place automation. The working conditions are very challenging, with complex objects, arranged at random in the scene, and heavily occluded. This approach exploits SIFT to obtain a set of correspondences between the object model and the current image. In order to segment the multiple instances of the object, the correspondences are clustered among the objects using a voting scheme which determines the best estimate of the object’s center through mean shift. This procedure is compared in terms of accuracy with existing homography-based solutions which make use of RANSAC to eliminate outliers in the homography estimation

Real-time object detection and localization with SIFT-based clustering

This paper presents an innovative approach for detecting and localizing duplicate objects in pick-and-place applications under extreme conditions of occlusion, where standard appearance-based approaches are likely to be ineffective. The approach exploits SIFT keypoint extraction and mean shift clustering to partition the correspondences between the object model and the image onto different potential object instances with real-time performance. Then, the hypotheses of the object shape are validated by a projection with a fast Euclidean transform of some delimiting points onto the current image. Moreover, in order to improve the detection in the case of reflective or transparent objects, multiple object models (of both the same and different faces of the object) are used and fused together. Many measures of efficacy and efficiency are provided on random disposals of heavily-occluded objects, with a specific focus on real-time processing. Experimental results on different and challenging kinds of objects are reported
