A service design project for better hand hygiene in healthcare : "To do an Albin"
No full textDetta projekt har varit ett första försök för studenten att använda sig av tjänstedesign i ett verkligt projekt. Problemet har varit att i sjukvården idag finns stora problem med att bakterier och virus som vinterkräksjukan slår ut hela avdelningar som tvingas stänga till stora kostnader. Vinterkräksjukan är högst smittsamt och det räcker med att någon glömmer tvätta händerna ordentligt för att det ska sprida sig på en avdelning. I detta arbete har tjänstedesign metodik använts för ta reda på varför det förekommer smitta på ortopedkliniken på Centralsjukhuset i Karlstad och vad som kan göras för att förbättra handhygienen och minska risken för smittspridning på ortopedkliniken. Observationer genomfördes på kliniken ur patienters, sjuksköterskors samt läkares perspektiv. Tjänstedesignmetoder som customer journeys och desktop walkthrough användes för att visualisera patienters resor genom kliniken och skapa lösningar ihop med läkare och sjuksköterskor för att skapa möjligheter till bättre handhygien. Resultatet blev ett koncept som ökar synligheten av de handspritstationer som finns samt ett förslag på hur dessa stationer ska placeras ut på kliniken för att ge bästa lättillgänglighet för sjukhuspersonal, patienter och besökare. Namnet ”Att göra en Albin” myntades efter att en fältstudie genomförts på ortopedkliniken utav en av projektets kontaktpersoner på landstinget i Värmland. Litteraturstudier gjordes också på hur tjänstedesign använts i vårdutveckling, både nationellt och internationellt, och hur tjänstedesign kan bidra till en bättre vård. Uppdragsgivare har varit Tomas Edman på Innovationsslussen Vivan. Arbetet har gjorts i kursen Examensarbete för högskoleingenjörsexamen i Innovationsteknik och design (MSGC12) på Karlstads universitet. Projektet var handlett av Monica Jakobsson och Fredrik Thuvander har varit examinator. This project has been a first attempt by the student to use service design in a real project. The problem was that in the health care today exists big problems due to bacteria and viruses such as winter vomiting disease strikes entire wards and forces the hospitals to close them which in turn causes huge financial loses. Winter vomiting disease is highly contagious and all it takes is someone to forget to wash his or her hands properly for the virus to spread to the entire ward. In this project service design methodology has been used to find out why contagious infections exist on the orthopedic clinic at Central hospital in Karlstad and also what can be done to improve hand hygiene and reduce the risk for further spread of contagious infections at the orthopedic clinic. Observations were made at the clinic from the view of patients, nurses and doctors. Service design methods such as customer journeys and desktop walkthroughs were used to visualize patients’ journeys and create solutions together with doctors and nurses to create the possibilities for better hand hygiene. The result was a concept that increases the visibility of the hand rub stations and a proposition on how these stations shall be positioned at the clinic. The name “To do an Albin” was coined due to the field studies that were done at an orthopedic clinic by one of the projects contacts at Värmland County Council. Research was also made into how service design has been part of health care development both nationally and internationally, and how service design can contribute to better health care. Albin F. Irzyk Oral History Interview
No full textAlbin F. Irzyk was the commander of the 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division, which liberated Ohrdruf on April 4, 1945. In this interview, he gives the highlights of the division\u27s arrival in Europe, experiences during the Battle of the Bulge, and progression through the Rhineland. En route to Dresden, Irzyk received orders to go to Ohrdruf and look for an underground complex which was thought to hold communications equipment. His division bivouacked outside the town for the night and started to hear reports of bodies. The next morning, Irzyk went into the camp to look around, finding over 300 corpses. He describes his reactions to the camp and how it affected him as a commanding officer. Irzyk retired from the army as a brigadier general and is the author of three books about the U.S. military

Method: The approach of this study was a qualitative approach. The layout of the qualitative approach is presented by using semi-structured interviews with questions that are open-ended. In addition, this study has implemented a deductive approach using three predetermined propositions, relating to the literature review and the research question. The authors have also utilized an inductive approach, where the data that has been gathered from the interviews will be analyzed. As the authors are interested in the explicit content presented by the primary data and have not made any underlying assumptions, the analysis has a semantic approach. Conclusion: While analyzing the findings, the authors of this research paper present a marketing strategy suitable for startups in the physical fitness industry. This marketing strategy involves highly relevant components such as social media marketing, creating customer value, segmentation, and pricing strategy. It was apparent that there is a gap between existing literature and the current reality, where the authors filled a gap when presenting the findings from the primary data.
Design of a sustainable energy source for recreational vehicles : To create the opportunity for electricity supply at off-grid camper areas
No full textRapporten innefattar ett examensarbete inom högskoleingenjörsprogrammet i innovationsteknik och design vid Karlstads universitet. Projektet är en del av examinationen och utförs under vårterminen 2020 samt omfattar 22,5 hp. Författare av rapporten är Albin Ahlsten Andersson, handledare på universitet är Lennart Wihk och examinator är Leo de Vin. Projektet följer traditionell produktutvecklingsmetodik och utförs med designprocessen som huvudfokus. I projektet ingår följande faser: projektplanering, förstudie, specificering av produkt, kreativ problemlösning, konceptval och konstruktion. Arbetet presenteras i form av en rapport, virtuell utställning, en slutpresentation och opponering. Uppdragsgivaren för projektet är Glava Energy Center med Visit Värmland, Glaskogens Naturreservat och Sommerhaus Schweden som oberoende intressenter. Glava energy center är ett utvecklingscentrum beläget i Glava i Värmland, där de arbetar med hållbara lösningar både på nationell och internationell nivå. De oberoende intressenterna hade som roll att förse arbetet med en bredare kompetens inom området, och hjälpa till med frågor gällande främst den värmländska turismen. Enligt uppdragsgivare och intressenter finns det ett behov av naturnära ställplatser med tillgång till elektricitet. Projektet syftar därför på att utveckla en lösning som både är mobil, tillverkad av hållbart material och som smälter in i kringliggande miljö. Produkten skall tillåta användaren att stå i närheten av naturen under en längre tid utan att förlora bekvämligheten av tillgång till elektricitet. Efter användarstudie och marknadsanalys konstaterades det att de flesta alternativen som används idag vid fricamping antingen inte är miljövänliga, eller genererar för lite elektricitet för att kunna uppfylla det behov som finns. Enligt svaren på intervjuerna och enkäten fanns det viss problematik med att fricampa under en längre tid då resurser såsom soputrymme, mat och elektricitet sinade. De oberoende intressenterna kunde här också bidra med sin kunskap från det verkliga fallet och ge en tydligare bild av vad för slags behov det kan komma att finnas hos de framtida användarna. För att lösa problemet användes kreativ problemlösning både på enskild nivå men också i grupp. Efter denna fas hade tre koncept framkommit som verkade relevanta för fallet. Dessa koncept vägdes mot kravspecifikationens mål och presenterades sedan för uppdragsgivare samt intressenter i ett gatemöte. Det slutgiltiga valet överensstämde med värderingen av koncepten mot projektets önskemål. Konceptet presenteras i form av skisser, CAD-modell och en fysisk modell som huvudsakligen är tillverkad av rundstavar av trä. Konceptet är flexibelt och gör det möjligt för producent i framtiden att anpassa den efter vad för dimensioner som önskas. Den är tillverkad av timmerstockar och ger en känsla av friluftsliv samtidigt som det skyddar den ingående tekniken. Genom att fästa strukturen i marken är det också möjligt att hålla strukturen stabil och den vinklade kapningen av stockarna håller solpanelerna i rätt vinkel. Eftersom produkten är tillverkad i moduler är det också enkelt att byta ut delar och underhålla dem. Arbetet levererar ett koncept som motsvarar de förväntningar som fanns på projektet, uppfyller dess målsättningar och besvarar problemformuleringarna. Ett fortsatt arbetet krävs dock med bland annat hållfasthetsberäkningar, materialval och undersökning av lagar och regler gällande fricamping

No full textSince 1980, Albin Eser presented and co-authored various proposals for the reform of intentional homicide offenses in German criminal law. Yet, the misguided and outdated formulations on murder and manslaughter introduced in the German Penal Code in 1941 still remain in force. The author, in the spirit of Albin Eser’s writings, presents a reform proposal based on a graduated model of aggravated, „normal“, and mitigated instances of intentional homicide. The distinction between these three degrees of homicide relies on a flexible system of aggravating and mitigating circumstances, which relate to the circumstances of the killing and special conflict situations of the perpetrator

A Brief Moment Of Peace. Ett utforskande i visuellt uttryck inom 3d-grafik och animerad film
No full textThis project was about the creation of a shorter computer animated film. The
goal of the project was to explore a different technique of the visual outcome
that should not rely on photorealistic rendering and how to find new interesting
ways to use 3d-graphic for visuals. A big part of the project was also to
incorporate music to create a chosen atmosphere and impact on the viewer but
also to help the story forward and questions such as; ”How can you create an
expression for the feeling you want to transmit?” were formulated. The scene
was built up in a 3d-application consisting of a house and surrounding garden,
which within an character was animated to tell the plot. Since animation of a
character was a fairly new experience to the author a lot of time was put into
the making of the characters movement. The mentioned visual technique
would be a mix of 2d textures, masked out by the moving positions of the 3d
objects in the scene. In total 45 masked textures were compiled together and
color-corrected along with shadows and depth to create the final short film.

Refined intersection homology on non-Witt spaces
No full textWe investigate a generalization to non-Witt stratified spaces of the intersection homology theory of Goresky–MacPherson. The second-named author has described the self-dual sheaves compatible with intersection homology, and the other authors have described a generalization of Cheeger's L2 de Rham cohomology. In this paper we first extend both of these cohomology theories by describing all sheaf complexes in the derived category of constructible sheaves that are compatible with middle perversity intersection cohomology, though not necessarily self-dual. Our main result is that this refined intersection cohomology theory coincides with the analytic de Rham theory on Thom–Mather stratified spaces. The word "refined" is motivated by the fact that the definition of this cohomology theory depends on the choice of an additional structure (mezzo-perversity) which is automatically zero in the case of a Witt space
