Orientadores: Ana Maria Frattini Fileti, João Alexandre Ferreira da Rocha PereiraTese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia QuimicaResumo: Não InformadoAbstract: The present work is concerned with the design and experimental testing of control system with a fuzzy algorithm for temperature control of a methyl methacrylate (MMA) batch polymerization. Ethyl acetate is used as solvent and benzoyl peroxide is the reaction initiator. According to the literature, this reaction is complex and highly nonlinear, therefore there is some dificulty choosing the most appropriate controller. To verify the system complexity and the influence of the fuzzy control algorithm it is compared to a conventional PID (velocity form) controller. The controller tuning parameters were obtained via open-Ioop experiments. For the conventional PID, the Cohen-Coon method was applied followed by stability analysis. For the fuzzy controller, the open loop results helped to shape the knowledge base, with the determination of the membership functions. This work shows the several alternatives for tuning a fuzzy controller. It can be achieved by modifying the knowledge base or scaling factors. Besides, a digital temperature filter was succesfully used in order to prevent the oscillatory behaviour of the reaction temperature. According to experimental results, the PID-fuzzy was considered more suitable and reliable for this polymerization process control since it outperformed PID velocity form algorithmDoutoradoSistemas de Processos Quimicos e InformaticaDoutor em Engenharia Químic
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Multivariable control on a heat exchanger network with bypasses.
Nowadays, there are a lot of different control methodologies that could be used on industrial processes. Some of these methodologies have a complex design and also demands an extra engineering effort to design the controller with a superior performance. Some other controllers may not lead to a desirable performance although they are too easy to design. Midway between the simplest and the most complex controller designs, there are an intermediate solutions based on optimal control theory, that present a relative simplicity in design combined with a superior performance. The contribution of this work is to apply the LQR control (Linear Quadratic Regulator) and the H-Infinity control on a Heat Exchanger Network (HEN) with bypasses, presenting the simulations and the experimental results. An experimental validation of the shell and tube heat exchanger mathematical model was successfully developed based on a procedure proposed. The experimental results were obtained with an HEN assembled on the Chemical Engineering Laboratory located at Centro Universitario da FEI. The instrumentation was adequately performed and the signals were interconnected on PC computer by using a data acquisition card. The simulation and the experimental results with the LQR and the H-Infinity control demanded 200s. to achieve a new steady state hen disturbances or set point variation were applied on the HEN. Compared with the HEN setting time (600s.), the controllers demonstrated reasonable results to perform a disturbance rejection and a set point variation
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Calorimetric technique evaluation applied for chemical processes monitoring.
The increasing demand for the production of polymers with more tight properties has placed great emphasis on the development of accurate and robust online monitoring techniques of polymerization reactions. Unfortunately, most of the main characteristics are not measurable online from analytical methodologies currently available and, therefore, in practice, the final properties of polymer latexes are obtained through off line characterization of discrete samples collected from the process, resulting in measurement delay which is undesirable for real-time control. On the other hand, since most of the polymerization reactions are highly exothermic, it is possible to quantify continuously the heat release rate based on temperature measurements and energy balance equations that, in turn, can be used to infer valuable information about the state of process. However, this approach requires up-dating the value of the global heat exchange coefficient through reaction, once this parameter is subject to significant time variations. Therefore, this work aims to examine the feasibility of joint implementation of the concepts of reaction calorimetry and nonlinear state observers for estimation of the states of a chemical process. In order to do that, two distinct chemical reactions will be considered: a) a hydrolysis of acetic anhydride reaction, b) an emulsion copolymerization reaction. The results showed that this approach shows a strong dependence of the tuning parameters, preventing its use for online monitoring of a chemical process. On the other hand, applying the heat balance it is possible to infer continuously the heat release rate and the states of polymerization reactions
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
