    No full text
This volume examines the contributions of three contemporary theologians -- Rosemary Radford Ruether, Joseph Sittler, and Jurgen Moltmann -- to the development of Christian ecological theology. Against the charge that the Christian tradition is ecologically bankrupt, the author demonstratesthe intellectual and spiritual resources available within Christianity for addressing ecological issues. Of particular interest are Ruether\u27s doctrine of God and her emphasis on ecojustice, Sittler\u27s cosmic Christology and reconception of the relation between nature and grace, and Motlmann\u27sdoctrine of the Holy Spirit and argument for social trinitarianism. Beyond evaluating the issues raised by Ruether, Sittler, and Moltmann, the author presents sixteen theses or desiderata for any adequate Christian ecological theology

Improving patient access to novel medical technologies in Europe

    No full text
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) organized a one-day workshop with clinicians, health economic experts, and health technology appraisal experts to discuss the equity of patient access to novel medical technologies in Europe. Two index technologies were considered: implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and drug-eluting stents (DES). The use of ICDs range from 35 implants/million population in Portugal to 166 implants/million population in Germany, whereas for implants of DES (as percentage of total stents) it is lowest in Germany at 14% and high in Portugal at 65%. These differences can in part be explained by a lack of structured implementation of guidelines, the direct cost in relation to the overall healthcare budget, and to differences in procedures and models applied by Health Technology Assessment (HTA) agencies in Europe. The workshop participants concluded that physicians need to be involved in a more structured way in HTA and need to become better acquainted with its methods and terminology. Clinical guidelines should be systematically translated, explained, disseminated, updated, and adopted by cardiologists in Europe. Clinically appropriate, consistent and transparent health economic models need to be developed and high-quality international outcome and cost data should be used. A process for funding of a technology should be developed after a positive recommendation from HTA agencies. Both the ESC and the national cardiac societies should build-up health economic expertise and engage more actively in discussions with stakeholders involved in the provision of healthcare

In this article the focus is on the feminist eco-theology of Rosemary Radford Reuther (1936–2022). According to the author, Ruether attempts to create a new Covenant between God, humanity, and nature in her eco-theological contributions, initiating very different relations between the three entities above. This covenant is simultaneously the way forward for humanity when facing the threatening situation that exist in our world today in a climate changed world.Í þessari grein er sjónum beint að femínískri vistguðfræði Rosemary Radford Ruether (1936 –2022). Litið er svo á að Ruether setji fram nýjan sáttmála milli Guðs, mannkyns og náttúru í skrifum sínum. Hún boðar umbreytt tengsl milli aðilanna þriggja og að þau tengsl séu jafnframt sú leið sem mannkyni bjóðist út úr þeim hættulegu aðstæðum sem loftlagsbreyt-ingarnar valda nú um stundir

European collaboration on health Technology assessment: looking backward and forward

    Get PDF
The establishment of health technology assessment (HTA) has been an important topic in Europe for many years. There have been a series of activities starting with first projects in 1994 leading to joint actions from the European Network of HTA (EUnetHTA) ending in 2021. This long interval of engagement with HTA structures, methodology, and processes by all member states led to a reliable basis for European collaboration in HTA. This article shows milestones and developments from EUR-ASSESS in 1994 through the progress of EUnetHTA and the accompanying EU-HTA-Network up to the recent elaboration of the EU-HTA-Regulation. With the EU-HTA-Regulation HTA collaboration is taken out of the trial phase of more than 15 years. Through the previous EU HTA collaboration, the appreciation and understanding of the differences and complexities behind the HTA processes in the EU healthcare systems have improved. It is now necessary to make the final steps toward a sustainable European Network for HTA.S

Ph.D.This dissertation contends that the theological address of ecological issues is of necessity for two purposes: one, to construct an ecological theology that is an adequate belief system with environmental concerns; two, to offer an understanding of the etiology of and possible prescription to the pressing ecological crisis basing on the religious belief and value system. This dissertation conducts a synthetical study of the ecotheologies of John Cobb, Jr. and Rosemary Radford Ruether, the former is established with reference to the Whiteheadian process philosophy, and the latter employs the ecofeminist criticism. Whiteheadian process philosophy as a philosophy of organism provides a metaphysical foundation which emphasizes the interconnectedness and interdependence of all entities. Cobb’s process theology adopts this philosophy of organism, and brings forth an ecological consciousness through the interpretation of panentheism, interconnected God-human-world relations. Ecofeminist criticism draws a noteworthy connection between the domination of women and the domination of nature and claims that the ecological issues and feminist issues are interconnected. The ecofeminist theology of Ruether exposures the patriarchalism and dualism of the Judeo-Chrisitan tradition for they reinforce an ideology of domination of the Western culture and society. The ecofeminist criticism assists Ruether to envision a new consciousness and spirituality that liberates both women and nature from the ideology of domination by the of the doctrine of God and other biblical traditions, such as the prophetic God and the covenantal tradition. With the recognization of the contrast between and the distinctiveness of the ecotheologies of Cobb and Ruether, this dissertation utilizes the idea of creative synthesis in process thought as a method to fusion the two ecotheologies into one possible process-feminist ecotheology, which synthesizes the metaphysical conceptualization of process theology and the social-political analysis of ecofeminist theology. Creative synthesis is entrusted with the spirit of seeking growth, and the theological task of process ecofeminism is the refinement of religious language and the stretching of imagination; therefore this dissertation is expected to contribute a betterment for both the ecologies of the Cobb and Ruether as well.Furthermore, as a study triggered in the context of China, this dissertation extends the discussion over process-feminist ecotheology to Chinese Christian research. In regards to the scenario of the state-led sinicization of religions in China, the conclusion of this thesis suggests that the inclusion of process theology and ecofeminist theology may evoke the concerns of Chinese Christian theology on social issues and may also inspire the development of a more justice-focused Chinese Christian theology that embraces proper criticism of China’s patriarchal culture and authoritarian political regime regarding environmental and feminist issues. Xie, Caihong.Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2019.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 200-220).Abstracts also in Chinese.Title from PDF title page (viewed on 21 May, 2021).Xie, Caihong

Aproximación a la obra de una teóloga ecofeminista

We present here a detailed analysis of Rosemary Radford Ruether\u27s book Gaia and God. This work has a triple root: it is written from an ecological, theological and feminist perspective. Gaia and God addresses the ecological problem from a religious vision of the world, particularly that of the monotheistic religions and traditions that converge in Christianity. These religions and traditions are: the Hebrew religion and Greek-Hellenic philosophy, particularly Plato and Gnosticism. To all this we must add the new science in the 17th century. This represents the culmination of Western thought based on the idea of a Unique Transcendental Being, God, creator of all things, who subjects his most perfect creature: the man, to whom the woman is also subjected. According to this vision, the Earth and everything that exists is at the service of man, and he must dominate it, exploit it and extract all its riches from it. It is this patriarchal vision that is deeply destructive and predatory for Gaia, the Earth, which the author proposes to recover through her proposal of an ecofeminist theology. Background: A framework for collaborative production and sharing of HTA information, the HTA Core Model, was originally developed within EUnetHTA in 2006-08. In this paper, we describe the further development of the Model to allow implementation and utilization of the Model online. The aim was to capture a generic HTA process that would allow effective use of the HTA Core Model and resulting HTA information while at the same time not interfering with HTA agencies' internal processes. Methods: The work was coordinated by a development team in Finland, supported by an international expert group. Two pilot testing rounds were organized among EUnetHTA agencies and two extensive core HTA projects tested the tool in a real setting. The final work was also formally validated by a group of HTA agencies. Results: The HTA Core Model Onlineavailable at http://www.corehta.infois a web site hosting a) a tool to allow electronic utilization of the HTA Core Model and b) a database of produced HTA information. While access to the HTA information is free to all, the production features are currently available to EUnetHTA member agencies only. A policy was crafted to steer the use of the Model and produced information. Conclusions: We have successfully enabled electronic use of the HTA Core Model and agreed on a policy for its utilization. The system is already being used in subsequent HTA projects within EUnetHTA Joint Action 2. Identified shortcomings and further needs will be addressed in subsequent development. The HTA Core Model Online Working Group consists of (in addition to the authors) L Akiola (THL/FINOHTA, Finland), C. About God... Talk!: Feminist Thological God-Talk Within the Abrahamic Religions

    No full text
The topic of this Independent Study project is feminist God-talk within different religious traditions. This paper is not intended to be an exhaustive exploration into theology or feminist theology. It is intended to give a cross-religious overview of feminist theological God-talk. This paper begins with an introduction explaining why the author selected her topic, how she became interested in it, and why she believes that it is important to write about. The first section of the paper defines feminism(s), gives a brief history of the feminist movement in the United States, and outlines some unifying ideologies within contemporary feminist theology. The three sections that follow become more specific. Each section focuses on a different religious tradition: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The section on Christianity explores two feminist theologians: Mary Daly and Rosemary Radford Ruether. Mter establishing the androcentric nature of God, Daly calls for a shift from viewing God as an anthropomorphic being to viewing God as just being. Ruether, who agrees that God has come to be understood nearly only in exclusive male language argues for the incorporation of Goddess into the Christian understanding of the divine. The section on Judaism introduces Susannah Heschel\u27 s book, which is a collections of essays concerning feminism and Judaism. Two authors from Heschel\u27s book are focused on: Judith Plaskow and Rita M. Gross. Plaskow establishes that Goddess must be paired with God. Gross envisions five basic images that can help bring female imagery to the Jewish Divine. In the next chapter, Judith Plaskow\u27s ideas from another one of her works is examined. This chapter outlines some options that Plaskow suggests for a re-imaging of God within a Jewish context. The last section of the paper is structured much differently than the previous two chapters. Since there is no (feminist) discourse on God within an Islamic context, information from various Islamic scholars has been extrapolated. The first chapter of this section poses possibilities as to why there is no theological discussion. The second chapter summarizes the goals of Islamic feminists and their approach to battling gender inequalities in Islamic society. Finally, the third chapter of this sections begs the question is there room for God-talk within Islam? The paper ends with some concluding thoughts
