Education is very important especially in these challenging times. Various technologies day by day are growing, also the current educational technology. If in the past the traditional delivery of education there should be a lecturer in front and students listened to what the lecturer presented orally. Now keeping pace with technology education where knowledge is delivered not only in accordance with the timetable in the classroom, but can also be delivered on-line and accessible regardless of time and place restrictions call as blended learning techniques. Blended learning is used to deliver knowledge among technology websites, videos, interactive cd, multimedia equipment and many more. The availability of this technology has triggered a variety of learning techniques such as blended learning. There are so many systems that can can support learning techniques process such as Online Academic Online Resources (AUTHOR), an e-learning system used by UTHM. A learning management system must be developed with creativity and innovative features in terms of interface design and system capability to ensure the effectiveness of the system for lecturers and students. Therefore the purpose of this study is to find out why lecturers and students at the Faculty Of Computer Science and Information Technology, UTHM are not fully utilized this e-learning system (AUTHOR). The findings shows that through the development of a workable prototype with improvise interface design using blended learning concept can be applied in this e-learning system (AUTHOR). Hopefully with this improvised interface design will attract the lecturers and students more to fully utilized this system in the future

Flexural Strengthening Using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Strip on Reinforced Concrete (RC) Skew Beam

This report is experimentally conducted to determine the flexural effect of skew beams if CFRP is applied in the bottom middle of the beam. In the experiment, the author will test two types of skew tramms which have an angle of 15" and 20°euch. In both type of skew, the author will also text with different arrangements of CFRP application on the skew beam. the method used to text the beams in this experiment will he the double point loads test perfumed in 1 /3 and full span length CFRP applied on the skew beams. Thc arrangement of the links will be 100mm from centre to centre and I" for the four bars of rcinCorcement. The size of the beam used will be 230mm x 159mm x 2000mm. The investigation found out that full application of CFRP on the bottom of the hewn will give highest elasticity among other two beams (control beams and 1/3 CFRP beam) but lower the ductility while 1/3 of the full length of the beams will give higher elasticity compare to control beam and retain some of ductility to the beam

    KRITIK ILMIAH DALAM PERSPEKTIF ISLAM

This paper discusses the theory of scientific criticism for the progress and development of science. Science and technology carry out a noble mission, namely for the happiness and good of mankind. In Islam it is also taught that to obtain the good of the world and the hereafter, it is necessary to have knowledge. Therefore, science must always be guarded with a view of life that is full of religious values, so that knowledge is absolutely felt for humans. In this paper, the author focuses on discussing the theory of scientific criticism in an Islamic perspective. Knowing this material is important because the key to the success of Islamic scholarship is the spirit of criticism among Islamic scientists. The main problem that the author discusses in this paper is the definition of scientific criticism in an Islamic perspective, Islamic principles and ethics of scientific criticism, and the function of scientific criticism according to Islam. The conclusion of this paper is that scientific criticism in an Islamic perspective is a response, a correction made by humans based on scientific arguments by looking at theories or practices that are in accordance with religious (Islamic) norms. The Islamic principles regarding scientific criticism are the principle of difference of opinion, ideas or ideas, the principle that criticism is based on benefit, and the principle that criticism must be voiced even though others hate it. The ethics of scientific criticism in an Islamic perspective is that criticism must be objective, rational, intended for a truth, openly expressed, and prioritize the benefit of scientists. The function of scientific criticism according to Islam is to foster critical power, foster an attitude of openness, form an open-minded attitude, and form a laughing intellectual personality

Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosures, Traditionalism and Politics: A Story from a Traditional Setting

    No full text
© 2016 The Author(s) This paper demonstrates the political perspective of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures and, drawing on Weber’s notion of traditionalism, seeks to explain what motivates companies to make such disclosures in a traditional setting. Annual reports of 23 banking companies in Bangladesh are analysed over the period 2009–2012. This is supplemented by a review of documentary evidence on the political and social activities of corporations and reports published in national and international newspapers. We found that, in the banking companies over the period of study, apparently neutral, corporate, philanthropic activities disclosed and promoted in CSR reports are inextricably linked to powerful leaders’ personal projects and the ruling party’s agendas. We have demonstrated elements of traditional societies, including personal loyalty and the public display of loyalty, the master–servant relationship, and obedience to personal rather than formal authority, provide an understanding of why banks (with or without explicit political linkages with the ruling party) have employed politically charged CSR disclosure strategies. The paper contributes to disclosure studies where political motivations of corporate disclosure rarely discussed. The paper extends the debate on political CSR by demonstrating that the role of family and familial values at the organisational and national levels may be much more important when it comes to CSR disclosure and activities

Rice growing farmers efficiency measurement using a slack based interval DEA model with undesirable outputs

    No full text
In recent years eco-efficiency which considers the effect of production process on environment in determining the efficiency of firms have gained traction and a lot of attention. Rice farming is one of such production processes which typically produces two types of outputs which are economic desirable as well as environmentally undesirable. In efficiency analysis, these undesirable outputs cannot be ignored and need to be included in the model to obtain the actual estimation of firm’s efficiency. There are numerous approaches that have been used in data envelopment analysis (DEA) literature to account for undesirable outputs of which directional distance function (DDF) approach is the most widely used as it allows for simultaneous increase in desirable outputs and reduction of undesirable outputs. Additionally, slack based DDF DEA approaches considers the output shortfalls and input excess in determining efficiency. In situations when data uncertainty is present, the deterministic DEA model is not suitable to be used as the effects of uncertain data will not be considered. In this case, it has been found that interval data approach is suitable to account for data uncertainty as it is much simpler to model and need less information regarding the underlying data distribution and membership function. The proposed model uses an enhanced DEA model which is based on DDF approach and incorporates slack based measure to determine efficiency in the presence of undesirable factors and data uncertainty. Interval data approach was used to estimate the values of inputs, undesirable outputs and desirable outputs. Two separate slack based interval DEA models were constructed for optimistic and pessimistic scenarios. The developed model was used to determine rice farmers efficiency from Kepala Batas, Kedah. The obtained results were later compared to the results obtained using a deterministic DDF DEA model. The study found that 15 out of 30 farmers are efficient in all cases. It is also found that the average efficiency values of all farmers for deterministic case is always lower than the optimistic scenario and higher than pessimistic scenario. The results confirm with the hypothesis since farmers who operates in optimistic scenario are in best production situation compared to pessimistic scenario in which they operate in worst production situation. The results show that the proposed model can be applied when data uncertainty is present in the production environmen
