    The quest for Brazilian space research

    This paper describes how QUEST(1) (QUaternion ESTimator algorithm) influenced Brazilian space research activities. Indeed, we present a short survey paper on researches in attitude determination and propagation in Brazil arising from the influence of the author of QUEST. We show how Brazilian researchers started implementing QUEST, tasting it, and later deriving other applications based on it. Some Brazilian researchers worked out further investigations through direct interaction with the QUEST author, Dr. Malcolm Shuster, addressing attitude alignment and calibration problems.     Intentional mutuality and intersubjective dialogue woven into the pedagogy of youth and adults is a radical idea in any educational setting; however in the case of religious education it can provide a generative, hermeneutic, learning platform for the development of Christocentric living (as one example). Through so doing, this learning platform can easily extend into the postmodern secular sphere to temper and balance its epistemic forms with hermeneutics, ethics, empathy, and social justice. Where religious education can remain free of the control of neoliberal ideology, it can help students flourish in their humanity and agency. At the same time, religious education and critical pedagogies can be further developed on the shoulders of their giants with gleanings from the secular world—practices and methods from a range of human traditions. In that spirit, the author borrows substantial elements from his previous work (Shuster 2006) on the effectiveness of dialogue and intersubjectivity in postmodern workgroups and speculates on its utility to learning groups and classrooms.Celowa wzajemność i międzypodmiotowy dialog, wplecione w pedagogię młodzieży i dorosłych, stanowi radykalną ideę w dziedzinie edukacji. W przypadku edukacji religijnej może to oznaczać organizację generatywnej i hermeneutycznej platformy nauczania, służącej rozwijaniu chrystocentrycznego modelu życia (jako jednego z przykładów). W ten sposób platforma ta może łatwo się rozszerzać, wkraczając na obszar ponowoczesny i świecki, łagodząc i równoważąc przy tym jego epistemiczne formy hermeneutyką, etyką, empatią i sprawiedliwością społeczną. Tam, gdzie edukacja religijna pozostaje wolna od kontroli ze strony neoliberalnej ideologii, tam może pomóc uczniom w rozwoju ich człowieczeństwa i aktywności. W tym samym czasie edukacja religijna oraz krytycznie ukierunkowane pedagogie mogą być rozwijane przez ich głównych orędowników, zbierając przy tym doświadczenia również ze świeckiego świata, tj. praktyki i metody reprezentujące rozmaite tradycje. Podążając za tym przykładem, autor przejmuje znaczące elementy ze swej wcześniejszej pracy (Shuster 2006) na temat skuteczności dialogu i międzypodmiotowości w ponowoczesnych grupach pracowniczych i zastanawia się nad ich przydatnością w grupach osób uczących się oraz podczas zajęć w klasie szkolnej

    Adorno’s Politics Revisited

    Ever since the West German student movement came into conflict with T. W. Adorno in the 1960s, the question of whether his theory and praxis were in some sort of problematic relationship has not gone away. In this chapter, the author partially defends Adorno’s views on theory and (political) praxis, focusing particularly on the 1960s. It is a defense because the author will suggest that, in significant respects, Adorno’s theory and practice were not in contradiction with each other but cohered well. Moreover, the author will suggest that we can learn from his stance how to think about and engage in politics—specifically from his contextualism and his emphasis on immersion in a local context. It is, however, merely a partial defense. The author identifies some tensions between Adorno’s theory and practical stance that have gone unnoticed so far, contrasting his stance to that of Marcuse, notably in relation to paying sufficient attention to interrelations between local contexts and the lack of an account of a global subject of change

    Design management methods in private label brand development: case Stockmann, Cristelle & Co

    In this thesis I conduct a brand research on Stockmann private label Cristelle & Co through consumer involvement. The theory behind this is design thinking where consumers are integrated into the design process. The aim of this thesis was to find out how the chosen brand is perceived by the consumers now and whether it is consistent with the brand strategy set by Stockmann. My main goal was to find out how the brand image could be improved and how design management could facilitate the designing process of a private label. Data was collected through semi-structured interview conducted in Sinco-laboratory, which is situated in the premises of University of Lapland and through a questionnaire made in Webropol program. Therefore this thesis mixes both quantitative and qualitative methods. This data is then analyzed through content analysis, creating different themes, which I was then able to make use of when I finally designed the final collection and proposed a new brand image for Cristelle & Co. When compared together the survey and the interview gave different answers of the current image of Cristelle & Co. Therefore the data proved through the analysis that the brand image of Cristelle & Co was not consistent with the original brand strategy and therefore needed to be changed. Another result was that Sinco-laboratory worked as a ground for conducting research also in the field of clothing design and that it offers further possibilities for clothing research
