The Urgency to Redefine ASEAN’s Security Concept: A Critical Analysis of the Covert Threats of Neo Chola and Neo Naga (Neo Dragon)

This research aims to explore a blind spot on the security concept held by ASEAN. ASEAN’s security concept is reflected in the establishment of ASEAN political security community, in which this institution tends to look at the security concept in an non-traditional manner and tends to neglect the traditional security concept. Such a tendency for a non-traditional security concept manifests clearly in the definition of security threats such as counter-terrorism efforts, drug eradication cooperation and issues on poverty. Based on the definition of threats, it is obvious that ASEAN’s security concept does not consider a state as a threat, as the traditional security concept does. This research tries to explore the real threats facing ASEAN which go unnoticed because of the security definition which it adopts. Such threats manifest in the ambition of two Asian countries, namely China and India, which are competing extending the influence internationally, including in Southeast Asia. This competition between the two countries in the ASEAN region may trigger a variety of new problems such as increasing regional instability and decreasing cohesiveness. If such phenomena do occur, it is ASEAN itself which will be disadvantaged due to the resulting insecurity. There are two important discussions which this research tries to elaborate. First, it tries to elaborate the real threats from China and India which constitute the blind spot on ASEAN’s security concept. The discussion on this section also includes tracking the history of the imperial ambitions of the two countries in the past against the Southeast Asian region. Second, it provides an offer to change (redefine) ASEAN’s security concept which remains be based on the value peculiar to ASEAN, which is dialogue. This peculiarity is important to maintain in order that ASEAN does not do what NATO has done which preferred the military option to dialogue. KUDETA YANG (DIRANCANG) GAGAL DAN KONSOLIDASI REZIM (NEO) ATATURK? HIZMET GULEN, PARALEL STATE, DAN AMBISI TERSELUBUNG ERDOGAN

This study seeks to undertake critical reading of a number of military coup d’etat attempts that took place in 2016. The failure of the military coup d’etat can be read not as a victory of democracy, but rather as the consolidation effort that is continuously formed by Erdogan’s regime to increasingly exert his power in all areas of Turks life. This study rests on official discourse voiced by the Turkish government that states Gulen Hizmet movement plays an important role in the coup d’etat attempt. Unfortunately, Erdogan’s regime has acknowledged Gulen steps. Then, he designed a counter-coup operation in such a way in order to, firstly,  quell the coup d’etat attempts that occur thus ensuring Erdogan’s regime persisted; second,  make sure the coup d’etat attempt at certain level is still running so that it can be utilized for the benefit of Erdogan’s regime. The research method used in this research is discourse analysis with analytical framework based on Rossa and Nugroho Notosusanto theory about G30S event in Indonesia (which has been modified to read coup attempt in Turkey). The data sources used in this study are based entirely on secondary sources, including international and Turkish media coverage of the course of the coup. Includes various articles written by various experts / analysts about the incident. Keywords:  Erdogan, Gulen, Paralel State, Coup d’etat, Neo AtaturkAbstrakStudi ini berupaya melakukan pembacaan kritis upaya kudeta sejumlah kalangan militer yang berlangsung di tahun 2016. Kata Kunci: Erdogan, Gulen, Paralel State, Kudeta, Neo Atatur

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

MOCOPAT SYAFAAT: FROM NEO-SUFISM TOWARD A NEW CIVILIZATION

Often theologians and academics overlook very important popular religious movements. They fail to appreciate their significance, the way they have adapted themselves to changing realities, answer peoples needs, or contribute to significant society reforms. One such movement is the neo-Sufi movement of Emha Ainun Najib called the Mocopat Syafaat Emha Ainun Najib. This essay will show the significance of this movement in comparison to earlier neo-Sufi movements such as the Nurcholis Madjid neo-Sufism movement. What they share in common is both try to cultivate the self-autonomy of their followers, and emphasise that with this self-autonomy, anyone can access God directly without having to go through the intermediaries of a murshid, as in the order of the tarekat. But the Mocopat Syafaat movement has advantages not possessed in the Nurcholis Madjid neo-Sufism community, namely its more egalitarian and mass dialogue. This is why it is overlooked by academics, but it is why it can play a larger role in society. Mocopat Intercession can be seen as a new civilization movement reviving the character of Islamic civilization that once triumphed in the golden age of Islam

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
