Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textهذه محاولة نقدية نصّية تحاول الوقوف على جماليات التناصّ الذي هو في جوهره ضربٌ من التواصل بين فضاءين، من خلال نموذج شعريّ هو قصيدة «من روميَّات أبي فِراس الحَمَداني» للشاعر العربي محمود درويش؛ لأجلِ دراستها دراسة تحليلية تغوصُ في أعماقها؛ لمعاينة بناها الفنية، ولا سيما بنية التناصّ التي تستحضر في آلياتها شعر شاعر سابق، في سبيل استلهام التجربة السابقة؛ للخَلاص من واقع قاتم ممعن في التهميش والاستلاب، من خلال معاينة تجربة الأسر والسجن التي عاشها الشاعران: اللذان يمثلان ثنائية الصوت والصدى.
تبحث هذه المقاربة في التقنيات الفنية والآليات التي اجترحها الشاعر؛ لإيجاد البدائل القادرة على تغيير الواقع أو الثورة عليه، وخلق واقع آخر يكون فيه الشاعر قادرًا على الخروج الآمن من عتمة الزنزانة وبرودتها، إلى فضاء من الحرية المنشودة، وذلك من خلال التواصل مع التراث الشعري، والتماهي فيه.This paper is a critical attempt to further examine the above mentioned poem, in order to analyze its artistic structural sense, especially the intertextuality of the of the poems that tends to bring out the spirit of the old poem in a manner that evokes the old experience in it. Whereas the poet –Darwish- tries to escape the melancholia of his reality through reliving the experience, both poets, who represent the bilateral (sound & echo) had being imprisoned.
It also approaches the artistic techniques that the poet used to create the alternatives that are able to change reality, or create another one, where the poet is able to merge from his prison into a different space of freedom

Get PDFالأهداف: رَمَتْ هذه الدِّراسة إلى استجلاء معالم وَقْع صدمة التَّلقِّي على مُتلقِّي همزيّة حسّان بن ثابت، في الدِّراسات القديمة والحديثة، ثم ترهين النَّصِّ بمقاربته مقاربة تأويليّة سيميائية؛ في سبيل استكشاف معانيه الشّعريّة العميقة المتعلّقة بالدّيار العافية والمرأة والخمر خاصّة.
المنهجيّة: رَكَنَتْ هذه الدِّراسة إلى نظريّة جماليّة التَّلقّي، من أجل تَقَصِّي آثار صدمة التَّلقِّي، وكذا ركنت إلى المنهج السِّيميائيّ في تأويل النَّصّ، من طريق فكِّ سُنَنَهُ (= شيفراته) ومطاردة علاماته، واستجلاء معانيه الشِّعريّة العميقة، واكْتِناهِ ما تنطوي عليه مقاطع النَّصّ (الديار العافية والمرأة والخمر) من علاقات بنيويّة ودلاليّة وتَسْنينيَّة عميقة.
النَّتائج: استجلت الدّراسةُ المسافةَ الجَماليّةَ بين أفق النَّصِّ وأفق مُتَلَقِّيه في النَّقد العربيّ القديم والنَّقد العربيّ الحديث، وانتهت إلى ما أفضى إليه ذلك من آثار: من إسقاط بعض أبيات الهمزيّة، والرّكون إلى الأخبار، والمغالطات المرجعيّة والاستدلاليّة في مقاربة النّصّ وتأويله.
الخلاصة: استكشفتْ الدّراسة أن الدّيار العافية، في همزيّة حسّان، تشير إلى اندثار العصر الجاهليّ، وهزيمة الفكر الدينيّ الجاهليّ المنبوذ. لكنَّ المرأة، بالضِّدِّ من الأطلال، تشير إلى انتصار الدّين الإسلاميّ، واستيلائه على قلوب المسلمين. وكذا تشير الخمر إلى تغلغل الإسلام في نفوس المسلمين وتأثير الإيمان القويّ في قلوبهم وعقولهم.Objectives: This study aimed to explore the manifestations of the impact of the shock of receiving, on the recipients of the Hamziyyaht poem by Hassaan bin Thaabit, both in ancient and modern studies, and then to read the text through a semiotic interpretive approach, in order to explore its deep poetic meanings related to ruins, women, and wine in particular.
Methods: This study relied on the aesthetic theory of reception, in order to investigate the effects of the shock of reception. It also relied on the semiotic approach to interpret the text, by decoding its codes and pursuing its signs, revealing its deep poetic meanings, then exploring the deep structural relationships and the hidden codes implied in the text's parts.
Results: The study revealed the aesthetic distance between the horizon of the text and the horizon of its recipients in ancient and modern Arab criticism and explored the effects that this led to, such as deleting some verses of the poem, relying on news, and referential and inferential fallacies in approaching and interpreting the text.
Conclusions: The study explored that the ruins, in Hamziat Hassan, symbolize the extinction of the pre-Islamic Period, and the defeat of the rejected pre-Islamic religious thought. However, the woman, in contrast to the ruins, symbolizes the victory of the Islamic religion and its control over the hearts of Muslims. Likewise, wine symbolizes the penetration of Islam into the souls of Muslims and the strong influence of faith in their hearts and minds
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
