Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana), a neglected medical and condiment species with a relevant glucosinolate profile: a review
Armoracia rusticana (horseradish), a
member of the Brassicaceae family, has been known
since ancient times as a folk medicinal herb and as a
plant of nutritional value and culinary interest. Currently horseradish is cultivated for its thick, fleshy and
white roots which have a delicious intense pungency
and for its tender leaves which are frequently used for
salad mixed to other vegetables. The traditions to use
horseradish plant for medicinal purpose are still
applied in many countries. Horseradish is a rich source of a number of bioactive compounds such as
glucosinolates (GLSs) and their breakdown products.
Sinigrin is the dominant glucosinolate in both leaves
and roots. Recent studies have shown that crude plant
extracts have a complex profile of naturally occurring
GLSs, with particular regard to sprouts. The increasing
interest in these secondary metabolites, associated to
the long and diffuse tradition of using horseradish in
food preservation and as condiment in many parts of
the world, is generating new applications of this plant
in several agro-industrial and pharmaceutical sectors
and is encouraging the use of its roots and leaves in
functional food and medicine for human health. A
bibliography review is discussed on ethnobotanical
aspects and uses of this plant, as well as knowledge
about its flavour compounds and GLS content and
composition. This study summarizes also the updated
information concerning the influence of the genotype
and environment on GLS profile in horseradish
Spatial or narrative: a study of the Agneta and Frida system
We propose that analysing interviews with subjects who have been exposed to anthropomorphic characters from a metaphorical point of view can provide insights into how characters in the interface are perceived. In a study of the Agneta & Frida system (two characters that comment contents of web pages in an ironic, humorous manner) we found that subjects who used Agneta & Frida used more narrative verbs and adverbs than users who only browsed the web pages. In the latter case, more spatial verbs and adverbs were used. This may imply that normal web browsing is perceived as navigation through a space, while Agneta & Frida provides for a more narrative experience.</p

Newsworthy piece with a profile of Leonard Agneta, 42, new director of the Maine Patent Program, a division of the Center for Law and Innovation at the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. The program assists inventors and small businesses with the patent process and works with university faculty to determine whether a discovery is patentable. Three externs from the law school typically stay with the program for two semesters, and Agneta would like to increase that number
Som en byracka : självbiografi, estetik och politik i Agneta Klingspors författarskap
The study deals with Agneta Klingspor’s autobiographical writings from the 1970s until today. Agneta Klingspor made her debut as an author in 1977 with the diary Inte skära bara rispa. Kvinnodagbok 1962–76 (No Cutting Only Scratching. A Woman’s Diary 1962–76). Since then she has written several novels and collections of poetry and short stories. The majority of Klingspor’s texts represent a struggle for the word, both literally and metaphorically. The aim of this study is to investigate that struggle in Agneta Klingspor’s writings on two levels: the autobiographical and the aesthetic. The dissertation is divided into four main parts. Part I reviews relevant research on literary autobiography and takes up a general discussion of referential claims in autobiographical writing, introducing Leigh Gilmore’s theory about the process of authorization, through which autobiographical writings lay claim to the right to speak, and applying it to the genderized process of authorization manifesting itself in Klingspor’s texts. Part I concludes with a sketch of the historical context surrounding Klingspor’s literary debut: the era of women’s politics of the 1970s.Part II deals with the autobiographical themes in Agneta Klingspor’s writings and with their change over time, particularly with the ways in which Klingspor uses, tests and problematizes her autobiographical narration and with how she positions herself in relation to her time and to her own texts in order to achieve authority.Part III describes the struggle for the word in Klingspor’s writings, which occurs both on an aesthetic and on a meta-literary level. The grotesque aesthetics used by Klingspor is analysed as a type of tit for tat: a feminist strategy utilized in order to block a facile understanding of her as a confessor and a woman in the literary field.Part IV juxtaposes the autobiographical and aesthetic levels in a discussion of the political position Klingspor developed in her writings – a stance which is here characterized as the “mongrel’s position”. Klingspor finds many ways of adopting this position. She plays the part of an orphan and outcast in her own life story. She develops an aesthetic attitude associated with the mongrel – she is sniffing out disreputable subject matters linked to body, gender and sexuality. Also, she takes up the position of the mongrel in the literary field, disconnecting herself from the prestigious role of an author and insisting on being a stray dog. The dissertation concludes with an analysis contrasting Klingspor’s representations with the portraits of the mothers in the recent writings of Kerstin Thorvall and Kerstin Bergström – two other well-known authors in the so-called female confessional genre of the 1970s.</p
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Como resultados pode-se citar a comparação do modelo de negócios e modelo de caso de uso do sistema de pedidos adotado pela empresa quando da reengenharia efetuada e como deveria ter sido desenvolvido pela equipe do projeto, relatando-se os problemas
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
