Moderating influence of emotional intelligence in the relationship between domain-based self-efficacy and task performance: A study of employee in Nigerian banking industry

    No full text
Given the lowering of trade barriers among nations, the internet revolution, and a resultant increase in the bargaining power of consumers, coupled with the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic, firms are increasingly forced to make use of a high performing workforce. It is to raise the quality of their products and/or services as global competition for the consumer’s money severely punishes inefficiencies. As a result of this, it has become imperative for organizational researchers to determine the important antecedents of employee task performance. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the domain-based self-efficacy and employee task performance. Drawing on the Social Cognitive Theory, we propose that there is a relationship between these two variables, and that the relationship is moderated by emotional intelligence, with the view of shedding light on the inconsistent nature of the results from previous studies. Through the descriptive survey research design, the multi-stage sampling technique was applied in eliciting data from a total of 342 employees of the Nigerian banking industry who are employed in the customer services sector. From the simple moderation analysis conducted after utilizing the Process macro, results indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between domain-based self-efficacy and task performance. However, emotional intelligence moderates this relationship in such a way that the positive relationship between self-efficacy and task performance was weaker among subjects who reported a higher level of emotional intelligence. In the light of these findings, it was recommended for managers particularly in the banking industry to set up intervention strategies that have the potentials of promoting a desirable level of domain-based self-efficacy among their employees while also ensuring that an optimal mix of emotional intelligence both within and across components is promoted with the view of achieving a desirable moderating impact of this relationship

This study was undertaken with a view to discovering how proficient Office Technology and Management Lecturers are in teaching the MS Excel application in the North-west Nigerian Polytechnics. One research question and two null hypotheses guided the study.  The study utilized a descriptive survey research design. the population and the sample size were 127 OTM lecturers. The instrument for data collection was 5 5-point structured questionnaire with 15 items.  The reliability of the instrument was established using split half method and obtained a coefficient value of 0.84.  The researcher and three assistants administered the questionnaire, and the retrieved data were analyzed with mean and standard deviation.  T-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.  The finding revealed that OTM lecturers were very proficient in teaching spreadsheet applications.  The study also found no significant difference in the mean ratings of respondents’ proficiency for effective teaching of spreadsheet application as a result of gender and the institution\u27s ownership (State and Federal). The study concluded that OTM lecturers possess the requisite spreadsheet proficiency to effectively teach their students.  Based on the findings, it is recommended that OTM lecturers should engage in self-development in order to maintain their proficiency level in spreadsheet applications

The need to improve computer application competencies of graduates of Office Technology and Management (OTM) programme based on persistent complaints on their lack of the relevant competencies by employers necessitated this study on administrative supervisors’ assessment of database management and webpage design competencies possessed by OTM graduate workers in North-West Nigeria polytechnics. Two research questions guided the study and four null hypotheses were tested.Descriptive survey research design was used for the study.Thepopulation was 378 administrative supervisors in state and federal polytechnics. The population was used as sample. A structured 5-point rating scale questionnaire containing 36 items in two clusters was validated by three experts from the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was established using split-half with Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient formula and reliability co-efficient value of 0.78 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were employed to answer the research questions and determine the homogeneity of the respondents’ views while t-test wasused to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that the OTM graduate workers possessed database management competencies at a moderate level and possessed webpage design competencies at a little level. Gender and ownership of the institution influenced the respondents’ views on database management competencies of the OTM graduate workers but did not on webpage design competencies. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the OTM graduate workers in polytechnics in North-West Nigeria do not possess the relevant competencies for effective utilization of database management and webpage design applications. It was, therefore, recommended among others that OTM graduate workers in North-West Nigeria Polytechnics should seek out and utilize selfsponsored opportunities to improve their level of competencies in the two applications to enable them perform their duties effectively

THE IMPACT OF CYBERSECURITY STANDARD GUIDELINES ON THE CULTURE OF CYBERSECURITY

Abstract: This paper examines factors that significantly affect the use of cybersecurity culture by banks in Nigeria. One of these factors was the cybersecurity standard guidelines. This study adopted a quantitative approach to reaching its objectives by using questioner that provides a framework for building hypotheses. Fifty participants from different banks in Nigeria participated in the study. After reviewing several relevant studies, a five-point Likert scale questionnaire was designed to collect the required data, which was analyzed using SPSS. Hypotheses were tested to see which results could then be generalized. The result showed the regression coefficients of the variable cybersecurity standard guidelines explain (79.2%) of the variance in the culture of cybersecurity this interpretation is statistically significant at the level (0.05), and the table shows that the values of the regression coefficients were positive and statistically significant between the cybersecurity standard guidelines and culture of cybersecurity (β = 0.813; t = 26.356; p = 0.000); The square of the overall correlation coefficient R2 between cybersecurity standard guidelines and culture of cybersecurity was (0.792), which means that the independent variable affects 79.2% of the variance in the culture of cybersecurity as the dependent variable. Thus, we accept the H1 hypothesis. The researchers recommend the use of new variables and factors in studying the relationships that affect cybersecurity and studying the extent of culture that people have about this concept in different environments and countries, in addition to different sectors. No full text
Hausa literature is one of the well-studied African literatures. This paper explores Hausa creative writing, focusing both on the figure of author, marubuci, and the changes the concept of ‘author’ has undergone, motivated by social perceptions and demands. Modern mass media call attention in different ways to writers and their creative writing. Therefore, interviews with authors may provide valuable information, that has before now remained unexplored by the researchers, as well as some unique insights into the world of Hausa creating writing. Interviews constitute a particular genre in media industry contributing social communication and discussion. They also serve as a reliable source for understanding writer’s self-perception, and the perception of creative writing and authorship in the context of social and literary change. This paper explores interviews with several prominent Hausa language authors; among them are Shu’aibu Makarfi, Bilkisu Funtuwa, Binta Salma Mohammed, Hafsatu Ahmad Abdulwaheed, Ismail Bala Garba, Rahma A. Majid, and Bashir Abubakar Umar. The study seeks to prove that the nature of interaction between a writer’s self-perception and social expectations/ social perceptions for both creative writing and marubuci is a significant factor, that defines the development of Hausa literary movement. Moreover, that the development of Hausa literature in Northern Nigeria has been determined mostly by the self-perception of the authors, who aimed to improve literary tradition, and thus introduced new experimental trends, attitudes and forms into the literature. The study concludes that the contribution of modern Northern Nigerian writers to shaping the future development of Nigerian literature will definitely grow

The author divides the book into four main sections, which, while maintaining the chronological order, attempt to sketch the social history of a German minority village in the Lowlands in the 20th century.
