‘YES, WE CAN’: THE USE OF DEICTIC UTTERANCES IN THE INAUGURAL SPEECH OF PRESIDENT NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO
Get PDFThe study examines President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's use of personal pronouns to create different identities and to sway public opinion, and support for a political goal in his inaugural address. The goal of the study is to identify the individual to whom the President is referring when he employs the personal pronoun ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘you’, and ‘we’. The key emphasis of the study is to determine whom the President refers to when he uses the personal pronouns I and me, you, and us from the three-tier analytical framework of Fairclough (1980) thus description, interpretation, and explanation. The results suggest that the pronominal choices and their referent swing greatly depending on the context of the speech. The findings reveal the ideologies that Nana Addo aims to espouse. Again, the findings have far-reaching consequences for inaugural address research as a tool for understanding the relationship between rhetorical substance and style and the characteristics unique to presidential political and social perspectives. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Addo Supervisor: Asif M Huq Date: 2023 - August Aim: This study examines the impact of mandatory NFI on the profitability of listed financial institutions operating within the EU after the introduction of the NFRD. In line with this, the study identified and quantified the factors that exert influence on the profitability of listed financial institutions regarding their adherence to nonfinancial disclosure. Method: This is a quantitative study where statistical regressions (Difference in Differences, Poisson, and Logistics) analysis is employed to derive meaningful interpretations of the variables being considered. Results and conclusions: The result of this thesis shows that the nonfinancial disclosure reform led to an increase in total disclosure in the EU. In conclusion, after the reform, the disclosure of customer welfare information positively impacted profit. Contribution of the thesis: the study makes a substantial contribution to the existing literature on sustainability reporting and financial institution performance within the context of the EU, but also provides valuable insights for financial institutions, regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders involved in sustainability reporting and financial sector regulation. Suggestions for future research: It is important to conduct further studies into how institutions are coping with the impact of the EU Directive on profit.
