Con Il Libro pel bambino, Don Giulio Tarra risultò il vincitore di due concorsi indetti dal Congresso Pedagogico Italiano nel 1861: quello per un libro di lettura destinato ai bambini sordomuti e l’altro per un libro destinato alle scuole rurali. Fra le opere del Tarra pubblicate da Paolo Carrara è menzionato il volumetto “Lezioni in famiglia, versione da M. Carraud”. Questo contributo intende offrire alcuni elementi d’informazione su Zulma Carraud, autrice delle Historiettes véritables pour les enfants de quatre à huit ans, titolo originale della raccolta di racconti tradotta da Don Giulio. Il libro era uscito a Parigi nel 1864 per i tipi di Hachette. In precedenza lo stesso editore aveva accolto le prime opere di Zulma nelle collane destinate alla scuola primaria. A pochi anni di distanza l’uno dall’altra, la Carraud nella Francia del II Impero e il Tarra nell’Italia postunitaria, entrambi hanno contribuito con i loro “libri di lettura” allo sviluppo dell’editoria per la scuola e per l’infanzia.

With the volume entitled Il Libro pel bambino, Don Giulio Tarra won two literary competitions held in 1861 by the Congresso Pedagogico Italiano: the first was dedicated to books for deaf-mute chidren, the second to books for rural schools. Among Tarra’s works published by Paolo Carrara we find “Lezioni in famiglia, versione da M. Carraud”. This article provides some information about Zulma Carraud, the author of the collection of novels entitled: Historiettes véritables pour les enfants de quatre à huit ans published by Hachette in 1864 and translated into Italian by Don Giulio. Previously the same publisher had collected Zulma’s first works in a series to be used in primary schools. Carraud, during the Second Empire period in France, and Tarra, in post-Unity Italy, both contributed to the development of the publishing industry for schools and children with their educational and entertaining books

Turin Shroud: Medical Impossibility for a Medieval Work of Art
This article considers the impossible hypothesis, frequently cited among non-experts, that the TS (Turin Shroud or Holy
Shroud) is the result of a work of art produced by a Medieval artist.
Before going into the merits of this hypothesis, the author thought it appropriate to bring to mind the recent publications -
regarding the characteristics of TS blood, such as radioactivity, and to reconstruct the facts that preceded and occurred
after the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The guiding motivation for this article consists of the fact that the author is
certain that the TS is authentic, and there is so much evidence for this that it does not seem necessary to list all the evidences
supporting this. He then reports and comments on some of the main hypotheses for and against the authenticity of the TS
which are frequently discussed, and he shows how fallacious the most important claims against authenticity are.
The author highlights in this article the extremely complicated and absurd operations that a hypothetical artist, perhaps
even a Medieval one, would have had to perform. Instead, he does not consider here in detail another scientifically
insurmountable problem, not only for the hypothetical artist, but also for any scientist today because it is outside of medical
interest, and that is to explain how the "impossible" body image was formed.
In fact, the paper highlights the practical impossibility that the artist would have had in obtaining the very particular results
that we have on the TS, if it had been a mere human work of art capable of reproducing all the very particular bloodstains

La fabbrica del criminale. Alexandre Dumas e le rappresentazioni del brigantaggio meridionale tra letteratura e politica
Il saggio ha l'obiettivo di analizzare la costruzione discorsiva della figura del brigante meridionale nel corso dell'Ottocento. L'autore pone in costante dialogo la produzione di Alexandre Dumas padre e le molteplici rappresentazioni culturali che ne hanno informato stilemi e prospettive interpretative, o che lo stesso scrittore ha contribuito a modificare. Il saggio prende avvio dall'analisi del processo di tipizzazione del brigante dal cappello a punta, ritenendo che esso scaturisca dall'incrocio tra immaginario letterario e conflitto politico.
In seguito l'autore studia l'identificazione dei briganti come classe criminale, ipotizzando che tanto la dimensione folkloristica del criminale, quanto la sua eroizzazione in senso romantico, siano da connettere all'immaginario della delinquenza metropolitana della prima metà dell'Ottocento. Infine, l'autore evidenzia come il profilo ideologico attribuibile alle rappresentazioni del brigantaggio muti in funzione della congiuntura politica relativa al conflitto risorgimentale italiano, determinando processi di idealizzazione in età preunitaria e di criminalizzazione durante gli anni postunitari.The essay aims at analyzing the discursive identity of brigandage in Southern Italy during the XIX century. The author establishes a constant dialogue between Alexandre Dumas' masterpieces and many cultural representations which have deeply inspired his stylistic and interpretive perspectives, or, on the contrary, that the writer has helped to change. The essay begins with the analysis of the stereotyped representation of the brigand with the "pointed hat", which derives from the overlap of literature and politics.
The author also studies the identification of robbers as a criminal class. Therefore, the folkloristic dimension of the brigand, as well as its idealization as a romantic hero, are both connected to the imagery of metropolitan crime in the first half of the XIX century. Lastly, the author demonstrates how brigand's representations are reshaped by political conflict during the Italian Risorgimento, leading to a process of idealisation in the pre-Unitarian era and of criminalization in post-Unitarian years
