Late Glacial Multidisciplinary Studies
Amplitudes and rates of climate changes and environmental responses were especially high during the Late Glacial (ca. 16,000–11,500 years BP). By applying several methods on the same material (if possible on the same core to avoid correlation problems), the uncertainties and weaknesses of single disciplines can be reduced. Case studies are summarized to illustrate three types of research questions: What were the qualitative changes in the Late Glacial? How large were the temperature changes quantitatively? and What were the biotic responses to an independently recorded temperature change? Plant macrofossils play an important role in answering these questions. When several biostratigraphies and isotope stratigraphies are combined in a multidisciplinary study, we may disentangle the changes in various ecological factors, such as temperature, effective moisture, salinity, pH, or nutrient availability
Dredging Processes I: The Cutting of Sand, Clay & Rock - Theory
This book gives an overview of cutting theories. It starts with a generic model, which is valid for all types of soil (sand, clay and rock) after which the specifics of dry sand, water saturated sand, clay, rock and hyperbaric rock are covered. For each soil type small blade angles and large blade angles, resulting in a wedge in front of the blade, are discussed. The failure mechanism of sand, dry and water saturated, is the so called Shear Type. The failure mechanism of clay is the so called Flow Type, but under certain circumstances also the Curling Type and the Tear Type are possible. Rock will usually fail in a brittle way. This can be brittle tensile failure, the Tear Type, for small blade angles, but it can also be brittle shear failure, which is of the Shear Type of failure mechanism for larger blade angles. Under hyperbaric conditions rock may also fail in a more ductile way according to the Flow Type of failure mechanism. For each case considered, the equations/model for the cutting forces, power and specific energy are given. The models are verified with laboratory research, mainly at the Delft University of Technology, but also with data from literature.Marine & Transport TechnologyMechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineerin

Social change and voluntary organisations in South Australia
Speech presented to the South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS), October 27 1983 by Adam Graycar, Director, Social Welfare Research Centre, University of New South Wales. This speech is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/The population structure of South Australia is undergoing dramatic and rapid change, and this will have monumental ramifications for the way South Australians live, the levels of production, the quality and quantity of services, and the structure of society. At present S.A. is more heavily dependent on Commonwealth Grants than any other State except Tasmania. (Commonwealth Grants comprise 69 per cent of South Australia's total state receipts). It seems most likely that South Australia's financial
dependency on the Commonwealth will increase over the years as its population share declines. Something else that will increase will be the number of elderly people in S.A
Logitech / Adam Mikhail Danial Shamsul Kamal
This assignment is about determining the product's flaw. Logitech International S.A. is the firm I have picked. I picked the G560 speakers for my investigation from their diverse product line. In this case study, I conducted a SWOT analysis to ascertain the G560's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The first issue I discovered with these G560 speakers is the lack of an alternative method for deactivating the subwoofers. From the dilemma, I have come up with the greatest solution: convert the G560 subwoofers to soundbars, which are far more practical and provide far better audio than standard subwoofers

Identification of candidate substrates for ectodomain shedding by the metalloprotease-disintegrin ADAM8
ADAM proteases are type I transmembrane proteins with extracellular metalloprotease domains. As for most ADAM family members, ADAM8 (CD156a, MS2) is involved in ectodomain shedding of membrane proteins and is linked to inflammation and neurodegeneration. To identify potential substrates released under these pathologic conditions, we screened 10-mer peptides representing amino acid sequences from extracellular domains of various membrane proteins using the ProteaseSpot(TM) system. A soluble ADAM8 protease containing a pro- and metalloprotease domain was expressed in E. coli and purified as active protease owing to autocatalytic prodomain removal. From 34 peptides tested in the peptide cleavage assay, significant cleavage by soluble ADAM8 was observed for 14 peptides representing membrane proteins with functions in inflammation and neurodegeneration, among them the beta-amyloid precursor protein (APP). The in vivo relevance of the ProteaseSpot(TM) method was confirmed by cleavage of full-length APP with ADAM8 in human embryonic kidney 293 cells expressing tagged APP. ADAM8 cleaved APP with similar efficiency as ADAM10, whereas the inactive ADAM8 mutant did not. Exchanging amino acids at defined positions in the cleavage sequence of myelin basic protein (MBP) revealed sequence criteria for ADAM8 cleavage. Taken together, the results allowed us to identify novel candidate substrates that could be cleaved by ADAM8 in vivo under pathologic conditions
Services to South Australia's ageing population
Speech given to the South Australian Government Superannuated Employees' Association, Adelaide, 7th April, 1986 by Adam Graycar, Commissioner for the Ageing. This speech is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/As we look to the future, over the next 25 years S.A.'s population will increase by 27%; the population aged 65 and over by 67%; the population aged 75 and over by 118% and the over 85's by 225%. When translated into goods and services and social facilities and supports, this warrants careful policy attention
