The Epistemology of Abu Yusuf Ya\u27qub bin Ishaq Al-Kindi (Philosophy and Religion)
The Islamic world has succeeded in establishing a philosophy that is in accordance with the principles of religion and the state of Islamic society itself. Al-Kindi was named after a tribe, the Banu Kindah. Al-Kindi was of the opinion that philosophy is the science of truth or the noblest and highest science. And religion is also the science of truth. The purpose of this research is to know and understand the relationship between philosophy and religion. This research method is descriptive analysis, namely the author describes all data about the epistemology of al-Kindi\u27s thought and then analyzes the data to obtain a conclusion. The results of this study conclude that Al-Kindi was a pioneer in integrating philosophy and religion or between reason and revelation. For Al-Kindi, philosophy is the science of all sciences and the wisdom of all wisdom. Philosophy, in Al-Kindi\u27s view, aims to strengthen religion and is part of Islamic culture. Therefore, through philosophical interpretation, religion becomes compatible with philosophy
Changing Attitude toward Life as a Prevention and Treatment of Grief; a Review of Al-Kindi, Razi and Ibn Hazm’s Views
For downloading the full-text of this article please click here. Background and Objective: Some Muslim philosophers tried to present solutions for basic prevention and treatment of worldly grief with a focus on rational principles. This can be observed in al-Kindi’s thoughts as a first Muslim philosopher. Other important philosophers like Razi and Ibn Hazm also tried to more deeply pay attention to the issue. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to check out the solutions presented by al-Kindi, Razi and Ibn Hazm for controlling worldly grief. Methods: This is a library-based study organized as a descriptive-analytic method and tries to investigate al-Kindi, Razi and Ibn Hazm’s works on basic prevention and treatment of worldly grief. The author declared no conflict of interest. Results: The findings of this study point to the existence of a rational solution, which is matched with religious texts in al-Kindi, Razi and Ibn Hazm’s works. Accordingly, al-Kindi, Razi and Ibn Hazm consider human mistake in attitude to the world as the main cause of worldly grief. In other words, getting engaged in the material issues directs the spirit toward grief. At the time of grief, the attitude toward life needs be reconsidered. Conclusion: Based on the findings if a person can adopt a logical view of life in the world and act in the right way, he/she can control the worldly grief and replace it with happiness. For downloading the full-text of this article please click here. Please cite this article as: Bakhshandeh-Bali A. A Critical Analysis of the Post-structuralist Thought with Reference to ‘The Death of the Author’ by Roland Barthes
Roland Barthes in his famous essay “The Death of the Author” from a post-structuralist position took a stand against the notion of authority in a text. He while referring to the myth of Sarrasine in Balzac asks certain essential question regarding the position of authorship. For him the author only is a participant in the existing discourse of the time—a mere explorer of the existing symbols and pre-existing linguistic and literary systems. One the other hand he only narrates the events through the existing codes but never participates in it. It is here where Barthes connotes that the author might be praised for his mastery over the existing codes but not for his genius. Likewise, Barthes explores various concepts of post-enlightenment to give his concept of the death of the author not in a literary sense where the work is found importance rather than the author who is the product of the industrial strategy and his position changes over time according to the changes in society
Qur’anic Scholarships in Post-Colonial Lagos: A Study of Contributions of Shaykh Adam ‘Abdullah al-Ilory (1917-1992)
Islam, perhaps hardly been found in any area without existing of Islamic education and Lagos was no exception. Therefore, the advent of Islam in Lagos has resulted to the spread of Arabic-Islamic education everywhere. The Qur’anic education, which is the essential part of Islam started immediately by an informal method. Later, during the Post-Colonial era, the Qur’anic education witnessed tremendous development and growth by of one the often-acclaimed greatest Islamic scholars called Shaykh Adam Abdullah al-Ilory, who situated his Arabic school; Arabic and Islamic Training in Agege area of Lagos, as Quranic Center. So, it is the interest of this paper to assess his contributions to the Qur’anic scholarship, highlights some challenges and provides useful suggestions for the improvement. The research adopted descriptive and historical methods, which assist in presenting a comprehensive x-ray of his contributions to the Qur’anic education in Islam and Lagos society in particular
Theoretical Insights of History, Morality, and Society as the Literary Trio of the Author-Reader Relationship.
This paper attempts to examine the relationship between the author and the reader by polarizing history, morality, and society as a selected triad of theoretical interpretation. The study mainly focuses on the theoretical insights of these relationships in order to give proper clues for delving deep into the technical and thematic peculiarities of different literary genres. Therefore, it follows a qualitative approach to some fictional works, particularly novels, to demonstrate how the authorial perspective intersects with the reader’s ability to grasp the latent textual messages projected by authors in the course of the plots. The relationship between the author and the reader will be limited to three related topics, namely, history, morality, and society. As for history, the study sheds light on the postcolonial attributes of literature to reveal the function of liberal humanism in bridging the gap between the colonized people and the colonizers. Morality, on the other hand, will be discussed to explore the relative view of morality by authors and how the reader might conceptualize it according to his/her cultural background. Lastly, the discussion of society will be limited to the social customs and norms approached by authors to deliver a comprehensive depiction of the social reality in which the reader lives his/her true life

The primer design of domain-specific C-terminus of the avian H5N1 NS gene from Indonesia
(Health Science Indones2014;2:83-8)Kata kunci: avian influenza, H5N1, gen NS, C-terminusAbstractBackground: The avian influenza (AI) H5N1 viruses have caused nearly 600 fatal cases in the world since 2003. The H5N1 AI virus is still circulating in wild birds and domestic. One of the known of AI virus pathogenicity is the ability of the nonstructural protein (NS1 and NS2) to induce cytokine storm. Mutations of the NS1 and NS2 proteins may aggravate infections. Methods: Genetic sequences of NS gene that encodes the C - terminus domain of AI H5N1 virus were obtained by sequencing method using specific primer to amplify the NS gene. The primers design were done by using several bioinformatics software available then retested to determine the primer success in amplifying the target sequence. RT- PCR testing performed on four H5N1 AI virus isolates, followed by sequencing to determine the nucleotide sequences generated from the primer were prepared in this study. Results: Primers, which can be designed to amplify four chicken H5N1 isolates tested were two isolates from Bali (A/Ck/Bali-KH/2009 and A/Ck/Bali-T/2009), and two isolates from East Java (A/Ck/East Java-S/2009 and A/Ck/East Java-D/2009). Conclusion: The designated primer can be used in PCR amplification and sequencing of genes that express NS section C terminus of the protein NS1 and NS2 end portion. The primer design of H5N1 NS gene. (Health Science Indones 2014;2:83-8)Keywords: avian influenza, H5N1, NS gene, C-terminus</p

A Historicity in Contemporary Pseudohistorical Narratives: Typological Permutations in Matt Ruff’s The Mirage (2012)
This essay examines Matt Ruff’s “The Mirage” (2012), which relies on theoretical resources related to the typological and generic expectations of the alternate-history genre. Written in the years following the events of 9/11, the novel incorporates the event into the popular genre of pseudohistorical novels. The paper explores how the counterfactual developments of history presented in the novel not only introduce an alternative to the event and its aftermath―thus, succeeding to narratively normalize them―but also exemplify attempts in contemporary pseudohistorical narratives to deconstruct the genre’s poetics. As a mirror satire, the text focuses mainly on the transposition of temporal and spatial dimensions of contemporary historical evolutions while the deformation of the past becomes a complex, multifaceted phenomenon; however, despite the apparent presentist character, the irrelevance of the deformed past, the novel fails to exert a normative force for the future in its world-building since the narration does not present history in terms of determinism and contingency, rather it collapses past, present, and future in the form of ahistorical postmodernism
