Democratic Welfare State as Visualised by the Quaid-i-Azam

    No full text
The Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is known more for his political achievements than for his socio-economic thought. Last two decades, however, have seen a continuous flow of books containing his speeches, statements, messages, interviews, discussions in pre-independence legislative bodies and addresses in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. Even a cursory look at this vast literature shows that he was not only concerned with the political aspect of sub-continent’s independence movement but also consistently expressed his views regarding the socio-economic uplift of masses in general and Muslim society in particular. These views in their bare essentials reflect a remarkable continuity of approach from the earlier days of his political career to the period he occupied the position of Governor General of Pakistan. Actually, he became more and more expressive and forthright as the prospects of Pakistan coming into existence became bright. When Pakistan finally appeared as a sovereign nation on the map of the world, he openly rejected the prevailing economic system as having failed to do justice between man and man and to eradicate friction from the international field.

Upper Aero Digestive Tract Cancer Diagnosis using Deep Learning Methods

    No full text
Objective: Narrow band imaging (NBI) and white light (WL) are endoscopic techniques to visualize upper aero digestive tract (UADT) cancers. However, these imaging techniques are less effective for diagnosing tumors in less competent centers since they depend on skilled medical experts. Recently, there has been evidence that deep learning (DL) has potential applications in UADT video endoscopy. This research aims to develop a DL for the automatic identification and delineation of UADT cancer. Approach: In both WL and NBI frames, the YOLO DL model (YOLOv5s with YOLOv5m) ensemble, was used to diagnose laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Six external LSCC laryngoscopy videos were tested in real-time for cancer detection. The SegMENT is a segmentation convolution neural networks (CNN), model proposed based on a modified DeepLabV3+ model for precise UADT delineation using an in-domain transfer learning ensemble technique. Its accuracy was further validated on external datasets with NBI images of oral cavity SCC (OSCC) and oropharyngeal SCC (OPSCC). The SegMENT-Plus is the improved version of SegMENT model designed for large LSCC datasets. SegMENT-Plus used EfficientNetB5 backbone as an encoder with a modified atrous spatial pyramid pooling (m-ASPP) block. The attentions blocks (SE and CBAM) were integrated into m-ASPP module to improve cancer segmentation. The m-ASPP was used to extract local and global LSCC features to overcome the limitation of conventional ASPP modules in literature. SegMENT-Plus was evaluated using a multi-center dataset from three hospitals (Genoa, Brescia, Seoul South Korea). The model was tested on LSCC frames, the delineation performance was compared with three otolaryngology experts. The unseen intraoperative laryngoscopy videos also validated for real-time performance. The SegMENT-Plus was compared with its predecessor SegMENT and other DL models (UNET, ResUNET, DeepLabv3+, DoubleUET,). Main results: In the LSCC detection task, 219 patients from Genoa, Italy were enrolled, and were provided 624 LSCC video frames. YOLO models were trained using an 82.6% training set, an 8.2% validation set, and a 9.2% testing set. The ensemble algorithm (YOLOv5s with YOLOv5m —Test Time Augmentation) achieved top LSCC detection with 66% Precision, 62% Recall, and 63% mean Average Precision at 0.5 intersection over union (IoU). The average computation time per frame on laryngoscopy videos was 0.026 seconds. The SegMENT model for the UADT cancer delineation was developed using 219 patients (624 larynx frames), and external validation from Brescia, Italy for the OPSCC and OCSCC cohorts involved 116 and 102 NBI images, respectively. The SegMENT model achieved 0.68% IoU and 0.81% dice coefficient (DSC), outperforming other DL models. The DSC values in the OCSCC and OPSCC datasets improved significantly, with median DSC values of 10.3% and 11.9%, respectively. This study includes 557 patients with 3933 laryngeal images from Genoa, Italy to the development of SegMENT-Plus to improve LDCC delineation. The optimal performance and generalization of the algorithm were confirmed by external testing cohorts from Seoul, South Korea, and Brescia, Italy. The external cohorts showed DSC between 81.4% and 84.9% and IoU between 81.8% and 85.7%. Significance: The study identified a suitable CNN model for LSCC detection in WL and NBI video laryngoscopes. SegMENT outperformed previous results in external validation cohorts, showing promise for precise tumor segmentation. SegMENT-Plus holds the potential for improved early tumor detection and delineation, laying the foundation for a clinical system in LSCC margin delineation

"Jaloola!" is a Malaysian food known as Roti Jala. It comes with different type of taste such as chicken, chocolate, and kaya pandan. The name, "Jaloola!" is the stylized word from Roti Jala. The pronunciation brings the feeling of joy and fun when people read the word Jaloola and yes, our brand strategy is focusing on the feel of joy. In line with the tagline, "Bringing You Joy with Jaloola!"its show our focus in bringing Joy for our customer through the taste of Roti Jala flavors. Produced by Rh Top Resources since April 2020. Selling at a stall and it is located at Damansara. Roti Jala is one of the Malaysian favorite food serve for breakfast and hi tea. "Jaloola!" is targeting on local markets will go for international market. To be on part with other competitors such as "Ariani's Roti Jala", "Subway" and "Hot & Roll". "Jaloola!" forecast the market value of the price is RMS.DO each box which contains 10 pieces of roti jala. Posters and social media posting for the commercial is one of the target medium to promote. "Jaloola!" is focusing on giving joy to the customers every time they come to "Jaloola!". The design that we use also focusing on our mission, which is to bring happiness to customers. This is why the design looks cheerful and happy where the use of bright colors is suitable to showing the feel of happy. Introducing Iqbal the Economist

    No full text
The Iqbal Memorial Lecture was instituted in 1994 when the Pakistan Society of Development Economists (PSDE) celebrated the completion of a decade of steady progress. A brief announcement stated: “The Iqbal Memorial Lecture attributed to the national poet [Emphasis added], Allama Muhammad Iqbal has been included in the programme for the first time. Professor Ian M. D. Little is delivering that lecture” [Secretary’s Report (1994), p. 1472]. Iqbal, the poet and philosopher par excellence, has made incisive remarks or comments on economic and social issues in his poetry, philosophical writings, and in the course of his discourses as well as some famous letters, particularly those written to the Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. But these do not make Iqbal an economist. The Secretary of the PSDE was, therefore, careful in observing that the lecture commemorates our “national poet”. However, it will be of great interest to this largest national congregation of economists and other scholars concerned with development to know that the very first published book of Iqbal related neither to poetry nor philosophy, but economics. It was written in Urdu. He also taught the subject at undergraduate and Master’s level, even though he had not studied it as a student. At the Government College, Lahore, Iqbal studied English, Philosophy and Arabic for his B.A. and then completed the M.A. in Philosophy.
