Paepalanthus leucocephalus Ruhland, M. J. G. Andrade 1903
3. Paepalanthus leucocephalus Ruhland in Engler, Pflanzenr. IV.30 (Heft 13): 200. 1903. Lectotype, first-step (designated by Moldenke 1975): at B. Lectotype, second-step (here designated): BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Serra dos Cristaes, 4 April 1892, C.A.W. Schwacke 8503 (B [10_0243944]!, isolectotypes B [10_0243943]!, K [000640071]!). (Figures 2A–B, 3, 4N –P, 6A–H) Ruhland (1903) described Paepalanthus leucocephalus based on the collection Schwacke 8503, gathered in Minas Gerais. We found three specimens related to this collection, two deposited at B, where Willy Ruhland mostly worked, and one housed at K. It is also a situation with no holotype being clearly indicated, requiring a lectotype selection (McNeill 2014, Turland et al. 2018). Moldenke (1975) indicated that the type of this species is deposited at B with the indication “ Thelxinoë leucocephala ”. The two specimens at B contain the same annotation, therefore we consider Moldenke’s (1975) statement as a first-step lectotype indication according to the article 9.17 of the ICN (Turland et al. 2018). One of the specimens housed at B contains Ruhland’s original handwritings and drawings attached, also perfectly matching the description. We designate this specimen [B barcode 10_0243944] as the second-step lectotype. Paepalanthus leucocephalus is sister of P. scleranthus and they are the only species in Paepalanthus subg. Thelxinoë according to Ruhland (1903). They also share the annual caulescent habit of small plants, with the absence of scapes and spathes, capitulum sessile, involucral bracts not differentiated from the apical leaves, floral bracts acuminate, and dimerous flowers. They are sympatric in the Espinhaço Range in some mountains in Minas Gerais, and also in Rio de Contas, Bahia. There is also a population occurring in sandy soils further north in Morro do Chapéu in Bahia (Figure 3). P. leucocephalus is morphologically similar to P. scleranthus (Figures 6 I-N), sharing also the loss of the nectariferous branches (Silva et al. 2016), a condition observed in P. paganuccii and P. sessiliflorus as well (Figures 4–5). The whitish capitula are a visible character to distinguish P. leucocephalus from P. scleranthus, along with the convex leaves clearly distinguished into sheath and blade, and the morphology of the flowers, illustrated for the first time in this paper. However, the segregation of these species is weak and deserve further investigations as previously stated by Moldenke “The species is extremely close to P. scleranthus and I am not at all certain that the two are distinct” (Moldenke 1975). As expected of a widespread species, Paepalanthus leucocephalus encompasses a relevant morphological variation and the relationship with P. scleranthus is complex (Figures 2, 4, 6). Some populations, as the one represented by the specimen Andrade 625 from Rio de Contas in Bahia, are composed of individuals noteworthy for being smaller than specimens from other populations, especially from those occurring in the Southern Espinhaço Range. The populations from Minas Gerais, occurring mostly in the Diamantina Plateau, also have more hairy floral structures and a shinier white capitulum. The inclusion of specimens from the whole morphological and geographical range of P. leucocephalus and P. scleranthus in future studies at the population level is crucial to circumscribe these species more accurately.
Abstract: The present study takes as object four books wich was called "metaphysical quartet" of the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade, name coined by José Guilherme Merquior. "Novos poemas" (1948), "Claro enigma" (1951), "Fazendeiro do ar"? (1953-1954) e Vida passado a limpo (1959) would form a chorus of existencial questions. The comprehension of symptomatic drummondiana poetry as an extrapolation movement of metaphysics thought tradition, guided by the dual and contradictory notion and, mainly, as assimilated by Nietzsche, to ignore the mechanisms of difference, can be seen by the developments that adhered the present study, such as: the notion of gauche figure as a communicator instance of "Out", the tripartite concept of time (present-past-future), the dual types observed by Villaça (night / day, eternal / fleeting, life / death) that as opposed to establish a dual scheme and oppositional thought, precisely establish the affirmation of a plurality always different. We consider it is possible through the understanding of Being as difference. Questioning the metaphysical means, therefore, a question on the horizon in which determine the strengths and powers of thought

Abstract: Study objective-The aim was to link individual demographic and medical records into sibships to obtain the sibling distribution of biopsies and cancers, and thereby calculate heritability and recurrence risks in families, thus aiding early diagnosis and prevention of cancers.
Design-The 157 823 individual records of the inhabitants of the town of Ferrara in Italy were automatically linked into 106 821 sibships. A 10% sample (10 842 sibships) was then extracted from the distribution of sibships and tabulated, for linkage to medical records.
Patients-The biopsy records at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy of the University of Ferrara were manually linked to cancer records and then to sibships. It was possible to construct the distribution of 2062 biopsies and of 829 cancers in sibships.
Results-From the distribution of biopsies and tumours in sibships, it was possible to estimate the incidence of tumours in the population (0.052) and in siblings of affected (0.083), and to apply to such distributions current methods for the estimate of heritability (h2 = 0.246) and of recurrence risks of tumours in sibships, age independent.
Conclusions-The study shows that the procedure resulting in the estimation of incidences and recurrence risks for tumours could be completely automated, and extended to whole populations and homogeneous subgroups in post industrial cultures
Author in Essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere”
Features of the embodiment of the author’s position in the essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere” are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the poorly studied poetics of this work. A review of the scientific literature on relevant topics is performed. Methodological and theoretical definitions are given. The scientific novelty of the article is in the fact that for the first time attention is paid to artistic techniques that allow to identify the author's position in the specified literary text. The author of the article grounds her opinion from the fact that, despite the dominance of the subjective point of view, other characters’ views stand out in the work. It is concluded in the study that the text of the work represents a biographical author and author-creator. It was established that the position of the author-creator is expressed through the title, epigraphs, which are quotes, as well as through different points of view, including the author-character, the author-narrator, the characters of the work. The author of the article dwells in detail on different ways of expressing the points of view of the author-character and the author-narrator. It is proved that the point of view of the author-character and the author-narrator can intersect, they are interchanged. The author's development of the term comic “point of view” is presented in the article
Abstract: In this dissertation, my main goal is to relate the poetry of CarlosDrummond de Andrade to systems theory, specially the version by NiklasLuhmann contemplating comunicational systems theory.Luhmann?s theory is interdisciplinary in its premisses, based upon bothMaturana and Varela?s theory of autopoiesis and second-order cybernetics,as well as upon Husserl?s phenomenology and certains aspects ofdeconstruction. However, Luhmann os critical to his basis as much asindebted to them. His theory is function, in the basic sense of the word, focusing more on the description of how do systems organize and interact, than on what they are. I first start from the relation between theattempt of totality, always present when reading Drummond?s poetry,to the impossibility of achieving this totality and the repetition processesthat aim to expand and take to the reader what the poet and hislyrical self feel, trying to approximate as much as possible expressionand horizon, in a form of "irritation" in reading. Afterwards, I focus onthe process of repetition in Drummond?s poetry as an autopoietic process,in the sense thought by Luhmann: a reentry of form into formfrom the sensitive dependency on initial conditions. it is a procedurethat can occur on many levels, of which I analyse three: the gauche personaas a kind of limitating boundary for Drummond?s poetry, in a highlevel of organization; the first poems of every book in the poet?s oeuvreas bias conductors for the poems following, on an average level; and theinitial verses of a poem in a lower level, when reading a poem in isolation.I also approach, using both systems theory and cognitive poetics, the importance of emotions for Drummond the poet, both as a channelfor fraternization in his poetry towards the reader and as a system thatkeeps the unity of psychic systems by having rational, physical, logicaland perceptive elements without subsuming to these elements
On certain homological invariant and its relation with Poincaré duality pairs
Let G be a group, S = {Sᵢ, i ∊ I} a non empty family of (not necessarily distinct) subgroups of infinite index in G and M a Z₂G-module. In [4] the authors defined a homological invariant E*(G, S,M), which is “dual” to the cohomological invariant E(G, S,M), defined in [1]. In this paper we present a more general treatment of the invariant E*(G, S,M) obtaining results and properties, under a homological point of view, which are dual to those obtained by Andrade and Fanti with the invariant E(G, S,M). We analyze, through the invariant E*(G, S,M), properties about groups that satisfy certain finiteness conditions such as Poincaré duality for groups and pairs. The first author was partially supported by FAPESP, grant no. 2012/24454-8 and the second and third authors were supported by CAPES.
