Eschilo, Persiani 302-330: alcune riflessioni testuali ed esegetiche sulla prima rhesis del messaggero / Aeschylus, Persians 302-330: some textual and exegetical observations on the first rhesis of the messenger
Parole-chiave: Eschilo, Persiani, Rhesis, Testo, Commento
This paper aims to examine some textual and exegetical problems in the first messenger’s rhesis in Aeschylus Persians (vv. 302-330). It offers a commentary on the newly edited Aeschylean text. In the textual discussion the primary aim is to highlight the need for a better evaluation of the manuscript paradosis, and in particular of some verses and passages often emended by modern editors. Keywords: Persians, Aeschylus, Rhesis, Text, Commentar
Xenoi and Greeks between Opposition and ‘Hybridization ’. Some Observations about the Lexicon of the Otherness in Aeschylus’ Survived Tragedies
The paper examines the opposition between Greeks and the so-called Others (foreigners, barbarians, etc.) as represented in Aeschylus’ surviving plays. This antithesis has become a major focus of scholarly interest not only in philological studies, but also in the modern historical, philosophical and political thought, where it corresponds to the radical opposition between ‘Greekness’ and ‘Otherness’, as well as between West and East. By focusing on this topic, the paper presents an innovative interpretation of some aeschylean texts taken from Suppliants, Agamemnon and Seven against Thebes, looking at foreign characters such as Suppliants’ Egyptian herald or Agamemnon’s Cassandra, but also at ethnically hybrid characters (the Danaids’ Chorus of the Suppliants, whose ancient bond with the Argive land is explicit, and Polynices’ army, described as an external foreign enemy). The aim of the texts’ selection is to capture the interest on Aeschylus’ lexis related to the semantic sphere of the foreigner. The assumption is that a methodology based on semantic values (especially of the terms ξένος or ξενόω, and of some compounds such as ἀστόξενος and ἐχθρόξενος) well witnesses how the Aeschylean lexicon maintains the broad semantic spectrum of the term ξένος, with the frequent co-presence of the meaning of ‘guest’ alongside that of ‘foreigner’. The argument is that in Aeschylean theatre the Greek/Others polarity is presented not only in terms of a contrast/opposition with Greekness (with the positive element of the pair destined to predominate over the Otherness), but also in terms of intermingling/confusion. Aeschylus is not only the poet of the conflict between Greeks and Barbarians, but also the inventor of collective characters in which Greek and foreign elements constantly co-exist, in order to determine hybrid identitie
Mega biblion: Some suggestions on the epic Narration between the homeric Poems and “Game of Thrones”
Tespesio e i luoghi dell'aldilà. Riflessioni sul contributo esegetico ed ecdotico delle traduzioni del XVI secolo a due passi del De sera numinis vindicta (566 A e 566 B)
In an essay written a few years ago, Aurelio Pérez Jiménez analysed Tespesio's celestial journey in the final part of De sera numinis vindicta. My paper is dedicated to two steps of Plutarch myth, the Lethe (566 A) and ‘The cup of the dreams’ (566 B): the text of both passages has been subject to some textual and exegetical discussions, which only in a single case (566 A) produced a solution commonly accepted by scholars. The article reconstructs the ecdotic and exegetical history of the two texts from the early printed translations. Although interpreters such as Pirckheimer, Xylander, Amyot and others have not proposed acceptable and definitive solutions, their approach to these passages shows how the humanists understand the textual difficulties and try to overcome them. Therefore the comparison between the different 16th century translations appears fundamental in the history of the De sera’ text; moreover, it is also useful for those who want to better understand approaches and outcomes of recent textual criticism
Numerical and Experimental Characterization of Wrist-Fingers Communication Link for RFID-based Finger Augmented Devices
Radiofrequency-Identification Finger-Augmented Devices (R-FAD) identify a particular wearable technology suitable to turn the human fingers into enhanced sensing surfaces to restore lost senses in impaired people as well as to augment the existing ones. The communication channel of R-FAD, involving a reader’s antenna placed onto the wrist and tag antennas stuck onto the fingers, is here characterized in the UHF RFID band by means of both numerical simulations, accounting for several options of the system, and an experimental campaign with volunteers asked to reproduce natural gestures of the hands. The study identifies the most appropriate placement of the devices and, above all, it quantifies the robustness of the link against the human variability. The channel follows a Lognormal Cumulative probability law indicating that the minimum required power to establish a reliable RFID link is 18-27 dBm depending on the chip sensitivity. Measurements finally revealed a remarkable correlation of the minimum required power from the reader with the volume of the hand
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Near-field modeling of self-tuning antennas for the tactile internet
Tactile Internet (TI) is the new frontier of the Internet of Things that is based on free-hand gestures as a human/computer interface. A promising enabler for TI is the recently introduced Radiofrequency Finger Augmentation Device (R-FAD) family, assistive technology for the recovery of lost or damaged senses. The R-FAD core comprises a wrist reader coupled in near-field with a fingertip sensor tag. To prevent the interruption of the wrist-finger link during the touch of objects, self-tuning microchips must be used since they are capable to adapt their internal impedance and preserve the communication. A unitary electromagnetic/electric model is here proposed to address the double specificity of R-FAD devices for TI, namely the Near-Field interaction among the antennas, and the dynamic behavior of the IC. The model is based on a two-port network and is suitable for the application to the constrained design of robust communication links
