Regression tree analysis for predicting slaughter weight in broilers
In this study, Regression Tree Analysis (RTA) was used to predict and to determine the most important variables in predicting the slaughter weight of Ross 308 broiler chickens. Data for this study came from 224 chickens raised during three different seasons, namely spring (n=66), summer (n=66), winter (n=92). Second week body weight, shank length, shank width, breast bone length, breast width, breast circumference and body length were used to predict the slaughter weight. Results of RTA showed that among the seven independent variables only four were selected, namely; body weight, breast bone length, shank width, and breast circumference. These selected independent variables were more efficient than the others in predicting the slaughter weight. RTA indicated that the birds which had values of second week body weight >295.95 g, breast bone length >55.82 mm and breast circumference >14.18 cm or that of body weight ≤295.95 g, breast bone length >60.26 mm and shank width >8.32 mm could be expected to have higher slaughter weights
Anova F ve welch testi ile bunlarin permutasyon versiyonlarinin 1. tip hata ve testin gücü bakimindan karşilaştirilması
We compared Analysis of Variance (F) and the Welch test (W) with their respective permutation versions (PF and PW) in terms of Type I error rate (alpha) and test power (1-beta) by Monte Carlo simulation technique. Simulation results showed that when the variances were homogeneous, the permutation versions of F and W tests displayed more reliable results in terms of protecting Type I error rate at nominal level, regardless of distribution shape and sample size. Violation of homogeneity of variances adversely affected all tests. Regardless of sample size and effect size, the PF test was slightly more powerful compared to the F test as long as the variances were homogeneous and the distributions were skewed (chi(2)(3) and Exp [0.75]). The PF and F tests had similar power levels when the distributions were symmetrical (Beta (5.5)). The W test was more powerful with homogenous variances, while the PW test was slightly superior with heterogonous variances except for unbalanced sample sizes (i.e., 5:10:15)
The Survival Rates of SMEs in Turkey and the Conceptual Framework of Factors Affecting IT
Abstract :
SMEs are vitally important enterprises as they are a source of income and employment in both developed and developing economies. However, despite their importance, only a small part of them survive for many years. Therefore, identifying the factors that enable SMEs to survive will play an important role in attracting entrepreneurs’ attention and encouraging them to take steps to ensure the survival of their enterprises. In the literature, these factors are considered independently of each other. In this context, there is a gap in the literature that requires to demonstrate the relationship between these factors. This article aims to contribute to the literature by identifying factors affecting the survival of SMEs in Turkey and providing a conceptual framework that explains their relationships. In the proposed framework, managerial practices, entrepreneurial traits, market adaptation, growth management and finance management were considered as the main constructs. If this conceptual framework, which was revealed as a result of field observations and detailed literature reviews, is empirically supported by further studies, it can create an alternative perspective that will inspire SME owners in Turkey to keep their companies alive for years
Sustainability in Fleet Management
Purpose: This paper aims to discuss sustainability in fleet management at companies considering simultaneously the three dimensions of sustainability, which are economic, environmental, and social, corresponding to the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) approach.
Approach/Methodology/Design: This paper examines the subject and employs a theory-building-descriptive design. Three key themes in the aspect of sustainability and in terms of fleet management were examined: economic, environmental, and social.
Findings: In today’s world, almost every company operates vehicle fleets to perform business requirements and irrespective of the size of vehicles, these companies need to execute some certain fleet operations under the phenomenon of fleet management. Fleet management entails a transition to a more sustainable model which should try to adopt economic, environmental, social dimensions. While the economic dimension of sustainability brings about a new model called the TCM, the environmental dimension constructs a road map to greener fleets and delivers quick wins that companies can easily implement in their agendas. The social dimension concerns the well-being of people and society which seeks to find a balance between their needs and the requirements of fleet management.
Practical Implications: The paper recommends a subsequent study through an empirical way that would investigate the actual sustainability behaviours and initiatives of companies present in Turkey.
Originality/value: In recent years, sustainability has become an interesting topic for scholars in many areas of research. However, the literature is lacking ample studies concerning sustainability in corporate fleet management. Therefore, the main contribution and novelty of this paper is to provide companies with policy advice regarding the three pillars of sustainability for their applications to vehicle fleet management
Multivariate Analysis of the Relations Between Some Blood Biochemistry Parameters, Morphological Characters and Tonic Immobility in Broiler
Multivariate multiple regression analysis (MMLR) and multidimensional scaling technique (MDS) were used to investigate relations between blood biochemistry parameters (white blood cells) and differences between two sides of some morphological characteristics (shank length, shank width, face width, face length) and tonic immobility. Sixty male birds were used in this study, According to the results of MMLR, the overall effect of basophil (P = 0.05), monocyte (P = 0.004) and eosinophil (P= 0.011) on dependent variables were statistically significant while the overall effect of lymphocyte (P = 0.630) and heterophil (P = 0.2937) were not statistically significant. Univariate F tests indicated that the shank width (P = 0.033) and face width (P = 0.047) were significantly related to the set of predictors, while shank length (P = 0,537), face length (P = 0.2344) and tonic immobility (P = 0.703) are not significantly related to the set of predictors. The MDS results showed that the differences between two sides of shank width were also related to Monocyte, Eosinophil and basophil while face length, face width and tonic immobility were related to lymphocyte and heterophil
Exploring the Tendencies in Open-Access Research in Humanitarian Logistics: A Bibliometric Analysis
The paper will focus on Humanitarian Logistics through a bibliometric analysis lens. Field is especially critical for managing disaster relief operations with efficient manner. Integration of technology and how well that integration is done is even more important. However, as is the nature of meta-analysis papers and literature reviews, the paper won’t be specifically about the subject matter itself but the research that is done on it. The main objective would be to gain an idea towards what the past academic literature focused on, and where to go from that point. Utilization of the VOSviewer program will enable us researchers to shine a bright light towards the unexplored areas, putting us in an almost intermediary role. Utilizing the VOSviewer bibliometric analysis tool, allowed us to explore the trends and gaps in the Humanitarian Logistics research as mentioned before. Visualization of co-citation networks, key and important authors and thematic cluster groups helped us identify the highly referenced studies and more under-explored areas. Further research into the collaboration networks shows us that there is very limited overlap between the academia and field practitioners, showing us the need for more interdisciplinary approaches. The interdisciplinary approaches particularly needed were identified as political science and information technology. Bridging the gap between academic research and practical application of technology in Disaster Logistics will only be done through shining a light on lacking areas in research shown to us by bibliometric research
The Nexus Between Trade Facilitation and Macroeconomic Variables: A Panel Data Approach
The efforts to remove obstacles to international trade, facilitate trade, and reduce costs on international trade gained momentum with the liberalization in the world. Trade Facilitation is an important agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Trade facilitation aims to harmonize basic rules among countries to increase transparency, predictability, and efficiency. The studies conducted by the WTO present results for the economic benefits. We aim to exhibit the nexus between trade facilitation and macroeconomic indicators for 63 countries in 2007 - 2019 with panel data analysis. The period ends in 2019 to exclude the negative effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Because COVID-19 induced significant problems in supply chain and foreign trade transactions. Panel regression and panel causality test confirm the significant linkage between trade facilitation and macroeconomic variables. Trade facilitation has effects on the current account balance, net trade balance, exports and import growth, inflation, and real interest rate as expected. Also, trade facilitation mainly leads to an increase in international trade and exports of high-tech products
Determination of suitable permutation numbers in comparing independent group means: a monte carlo simulation study
422-425In this study, suitable number of permutations were tried to be determined empirically for permutation test, one of whichalternatively used in analysis of variance (ANOVA). Random numbers were generated from (x 3)2 distribution by simulationtechnique, and type I error rates were calculated with their standard errors. For k=2, 3 and 4, data were dealt with what iscommonly faced in practice. Number of observation (n) in each group were taken to be 5, 10 and 15 (except for k = 2). Numberof permutation changes with respect to k and n. For k=2, 3 and 4, required number of permutation was determined to be 15,000,25,000 and 30,000 respectively. In general, there is great advantage of not allowing number of permutation under 10,000, ifpermutation tests are to be used in testing significance of differences of means of groups
