RUSSIAN BEAUTY BY VIKTOR EROFEEV: DECONSTRUCTING A CULTURAL ARCHETYPE
The article means to investigate the manner in which the novelist creates a female character who has little in common with the Russian literary and cultural canon, through the dynamic in said character\u27s construction, the ideation and symbolism found in the novel and the postmodern techniques employed (intertextuality, fragmentation, parody, relativization of meanings in the text etc.). Part of the analysis highlights the inclusion of Erofeev\u27s female character into the array of postmodern protagonists, an antihero with a fragmented personality and a fluid identity, in whose existential universe libertinism, uninhibited sexuality, the absence of any taboo, mental frailty and nihilism, along with sarcasmand resentment towards the world around her, surface. In addition, we\u27re taking into consideration another deconstructive mechanism of the Russian female archetype, precisely one through which Erofeev attributes to the protagonist roles that, up to that point in literature, had been exclusively assigned to male characters. Thus, Ira acquires the attributes of a reflection character, showcasing numerous social issues, Soviet society\u27s shortcomings, lack of dignity among writers of that time etc. Hot target magnetron sputtering for ferromagnetic films deposition
This work is an investigation on the operation parameters for Ni films deposition by magnetron sputtering from target working at temperatures higher than the Curie temperature due to magnetic phase transition of the sputtered target, which is partial heat-insulated from the water-cooled magnetron body. The ferro- to paramagnetic transition of the target results in decrease of discharge voltage and rise of discharge current. Thereby, discharge power increases under voltage control mode or hot Ni target sputtering can occur at lower pressures under power control mode. Heating of the Ni target and its ferro- to paramagnetic transition leads to stabilization of the discharge parameters. The changes of the discharge current and power decreased from 10.5% to 2.5% during a single sputtering process under voltage control mode. Moreover, a slight increase of the deposition rates of 20...25% was determined, when hot target sputtering was performed. The XRD assessment showed that Ni films deposited by hot target sputtering have a textured crystal structure with larger grain sizes and lower residual stresses in comparison with cooled Ni target sputtering. When passing from cooled to hot target sputtering, the type of film growth changes from zone 1 to zone T, and surface roughness of Ni films decreased
The nature of comic in Russian literature of postmodernism: on the example of the creativity of Venedikt Erofeev
The comic in Erofeev corresponds to the poetics of postmodern literature, in which the text creates the impression of chaoand lack of logic. In the comic nature of Erofeev \u27s works, the features of the literature of the absurd are also guessed, the main technique of which is alogism. Its main goal was to rethink the cultural and social values of the world, exposing its imperfections. In Erofeev\u27s works, alogism manifests itself not only at the linguistic and stylistic levels, but also at the level of the plot. The comic and tragic coexist in Erofeev on the principle of ambivalence, where the comic is external (manifested in the language of narration and the construction of speech), and the tragic exists at the level of the plot – is internal. This article examines the combination of comic and tragic in three major works by Erofeev: “Notes of a psychopath”, “Moscow-Petushki” and “Walpurgis Night, or the Steps of the Commander”.O cômico em Venedíkt Eroféiev corresponde à poética da literatura pós-moderna, em que o texto dá a impressão de caos e falta de lógica.
The present article focuses on "My Little Leniniana", one of the last publications of Venedikt Erofeev written in 1988. The work is a small compendium of quotations culled verbatim from Vladimir Lenin’s essays, speeches and letters, in particular from his collected writings. The quotations are taken out of their historical and verbal contexts and strategically arranged by Erofeev, who ironically combines apparently illogical or ridiculous excerpts, selects citations which reveal an almost obsessive use of terms relating to violence and intimidation, and appends to these quotations his own brief, wry commentaries. The very particular concatenation of quotations as well as the use of commentaries create an unusual and bizarre image of the leader
Fatum ad Benedictum: Moscow-Petushki, Homo Sovieticus, Postmodernism and the Fatidic post-Soviet Irony of Venedikt Vasilevich Erofeev
The following honors thesis is structured into two parts, four chapters apiece.
The first part is a philological study of the Soviet dissident and writer Venedikt Vasilevich Erofeev’s magnum opus, Moscow-Petushki (1969-70). This half of the thesis investigates Petushki in light of its thematic development of fate, or, more particularly, the fate of homo sovieticus—the ironic term devised by Soviet sociologist Aleksandr Zinovyev (1922-2006) to describe a typical conformist citizen of the Soviet Union. I will focus predominantly on Petushki’s connection to the end of the Khrushchev “Thaw” in the early-mid-1960s and the beginning of Brezhnev “Stagnation” in the late-1960s, and will explore the work\u27s engagement with postmodernism.
The second part of my honors thesis is an extension of the first. In this section, I reconstruct and analyze the “Kolomna period” of Erofeev’s life and career (ca. 1962-1963), during which he matriculated at the local Kolomensky Pedinstitute and later, following his expulsion, worked as a truck driver and in mass retail. I posit Kolomna as a watershed in Erofeev’s biography. This period saw the end of his university studies and the beginning of the “living large” (what he would name his “ochen’ zhiznennii put’”) that characterized his existence up until his death in 1990 of lung cancer. After Kolomna Erofeev’s life was marked by increasingly destructive bouts of alcoholism and smoking, extensive peregrinations through the former Soviet Union (largely undertaken sans propiska, or mandatory residence permit), and, most of all, the freer form of writing that culminated artistically in Moscow-Petushki. This part of my analysis asserts a link between the fate of Venichka, the notorious erudite drunk of Moscow-Petushki, and that of Venedikt Erofeev, its controversial author. Although not a single journal or piece of writing by Erofeev from this period is extant, I nonetheless maintain that there is a body of evidence that allows us to piece together a provisional reconstruction of Erofeev’s life as he lived it in Kolomna during 1962-1963. The hands-on, on-site research that I conducted for part two took as its starting point the ostensibly “semi-autobiographical” nature of Erofeev’s poem-in-prose.
Furthermore, in this second half of the honors thesis I curate and analyze materials from the museum and artcommune “Erofeev and Others” and from the seventh annual Kolomna apple and book fair “Antonov’s Apples.” I also transcribe and analyze interviews taken with knowledgeable sources on Erofeev: a local Kolomna poet, Aleksei Makeev, and the chief executor of Erofeev’s literary legacy and wife of his son, Galina Erofeeva. For the materials from the museum and festival, I include a set of pictures underscored by captioned analyses; for the materials from the interviews, I provide a written transcription interspersed with authorial commentary.
I collected these materials during a seven-week stay in the city during the autumn of 2018, and have reprinted or recreated them with the express permission of the city of Kolomna, as well as the specific personages they concern. For additional biographical and literary cultural information, I also rely on published recorded interviews with Erofeev and the journals he kept throughout the 1960s. These can be found on the official Erofeev website, which contains information on his entire œuvre to date
