No full textCuban migration to Europe and America (North, Central and South) has designed a creative and pedagogical map that expands its original theatrical geography into the new “lived spaces” (Ortiz & Mendoza) -sometimes these being bilingual spaces. In the last fifty years Cuban migrants have processed their journeys of displacement by recovering their own cultural History through the generation of new Imaginaries and Institutions, creating in consequence new aesthetic scenarios articulated by a “frontal discourse” or a “rhetorical tissue” (Azor). These new aesthetic scenarios reveal the multicultural dialogue of a transcending “cubanidad”
Genome-Scale Investigation of the Regulation of azoR Expression in Escherichia coli Using Computational Analysis and Transposon Mutagenesis
No full textBacterial azoreductases are enzymes that catalyze the reduction of ingested or industrial azo dyes. Although azoreductase genes have been well identified and characterized, the regulation of their expression has not been systematically investigated. To determine how different factors affect the expression of azoR, we extracted and analyzed transcriptional data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) resource, then confirmed computational predictions by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results showed that azoR expression was lower with higher glucose concentration, agitation speed, and incubation temperature, but higher at higher culture densities. Co-expression and clustering analysis indicated ten genes with similar expression patterns to azoR: melA, tpx, yhbW, yciK, fdnG, fpr, nfsA, nfsB, rutF, and chrR (yieF). In parallel, constructing a random transposon library in E. coli K-12 and screening 4320 of its colonies for altered methyl red (MR)-decolorizing activity identified another set of seven genes potentially involved in azoR regulation. Among these genes, arsC, relA, plsY, and trmM were confirmed as potential azoR regulators based on the phenotypic decolorization activity of their transposon mutants, and the expression of arsC and relA was confirmed, by qRT-PCR, to significantly increase in E. coli K-12 in response to different MR concentrations. Finally, the significant decrease in azoR transcription upon transposon insertion in arsC and relA (as compared to its expression in wild-type E. coli) suggests their probable involvement in azoR regulation. In conclusion, combining in silico analysis and random transposon mutagenesis suggested a set of potential regulators of azoR in E. coli

No full textEl artículo realiza un estudio de la participación de Max Aub en la revista literaria Azor desde sus inicios, en 1932, hasta los últimos años de vida del escritor. La revista Azor, creada y dirigida por Luys Santa Marina, sirvió a Aub para dar a conocer su creación literaria incorporando inéditos que, más adelante, serían publicados en libro. Es el caso de Luis Álvarez Petreña, novela que conocería cuatro versiones distintas. Tras la Guerra Civil española, el éxito de la publicación decae y también las firmas de prestigio que participan en ella. La falta de interés de Aub en la publicación a partir de estos años no es sino una muestra de la decadencia de Azor y de su excentricidad en el mundo literario de la posguerra, ya que Aub trató de reintroducir su creación en España a través de publicaciones más relevantes
Aunillon’s Azor: the ambiguity of language in a narrative utopia from 1750
No full textBien que placée dans la collection de Garnier, l’œuvre méconnue d’Aullinon parue en 1750, Azor, ne respecte pas les règles génériques suivies par la plupart des utopies littéraires. Pourtant, ce récit à structure complexe présente une réflexion critique sur l’épanouissement des sociétés policées. Le changement vécu par une communauté insulaire muette en apprenant à parler, met en cause l’avenir de cette société heureuse, alors qu’aucun commentaire du narrateur ne souligne ce tournant dans l’utopie. Dans Azor, le langage devient un objet équivoque qui permet d’observer les étapes nécessaires pour accéder à la réflexion philosophique mais met aussi implicitement en lumière les lacunes d’un progrès trop hâtif. À travers la trame romanesque, le jugement sur la civilisation révèle un examen approfondi et perspicace des espoirs et des défis propres à l’entreprise des Lumières qui s’articule dans un récit utopique comme dans un laboratoire d’idées. L’œuvre d’Aunillon s’inscrit dans les débats du milieu du siècle en exprimant une affirmation nuancée des bienfaits de la civilisation.While included in Garnier’s collection, Azor, a little known work of Aunillon from 1750, does not follow the literary rules of most narrative utopias. However, the complex story presents critical thinking about the development of refined societies. The change which a mute community experiences on an island while learning to speak calls into question the future of this happy society, but no narrator’s commentary elaborates on this turning point in the utopia. In Azor, language becomes an ambiguous object which allows for the critical consideration of the steps necessary to access philosophical sophistication but also implicitly highlights problems associated with too hasty a progress. Through the narrative plot, the judgment on civilization reveals a subtle and skillful examination of hopes and challenges of the Enlightenment, articulated in a narrative utopia as in a laboratory of ideas. Aunillon's work is part of the debates of the mid-century by expressing a nuanced validation of civilization

The journal Azor, created and directed by Luys Santa Marina, was a way to release Aub’s literary creation contributing his unpublished works, which would be published in books. Luis Álvarez Petreña was one of these works, a novel with four different editions. After the Spanish Civil War, the journal was not so successful and there were not so many prestigious writers. The lack of Aub’s interest in the journal during these years was a sign of Azor’s decadence and periphericity in the Post-war literary world because Aub tried to reintroduce his creation in Spain through the most outstanding magazines
