A novel dataset on horizontal property rights in 126 jurisdictions

The law and the economy are deeply influenced by horizontal property rights, which are the rules regulating legal direct and indirect takings between private parties. To foster research on the determinants and impact of these institutions, we illustrate here a novel data set partially employed in (Dari-Mattiacci, Giuseppe, Carmine Guerriero, 2015; Dari-Mattiacci, Giuseppe, Carmine Guerriero, Zhenxing Huang, 2016) [3,4], and (Guerriero Carmine, 2016) [6] and describing the acquisition of ownership through adverse possession of personal and real property and the use of government takings to transfer real property from a private party to another private party in 126 jurisdictions. These data are based on the laws and judicial decisions prevailing in each jurisdiction between 1981 and 2011

(5) Apakah perceived value berpengaruh positif terhadap willingness to buy?

A review on rainfall data resolution and its role in the hydrological practice

    No full text
Data collected by gauges represent a fundamental force in most hydrological studies. On the basis of sensor type and recording system, such records are characterized by different aggregation time, ta. In this review paper, a comprehensive rainfall database of rain gauge networks operative worldwide is used to determine the temporal evolution of ta . As a second step, issues related to the limited and heterogeneous temporal resolution of rainfall data are discussed with regard to avoiding possible errors in the analysis of historical series. Particular attention is focused on quantifying the effects on the estimation of extreme rainfalls that play a crucial role in designing hydraulic structures. To this aim, algebraic relations for improving a correct determination of extreme rainfall are also provided

This article attempts to identify and compile a list of the earliest Malaysian historical journals. The study found that the earliest historical journal is Journal of the Indian Archipelago and Eastern Asia published in 1847 by James Richardson Logan, a well-known lawyer and journalist from the Straits Settlement, British Malaya. Between 1847 till 1966, ten Malaysian historical journals were published by various history-related institutions, associations and individuals. Some of these publications are still active, while others have ceased issuing their journals

Kata kunci : Metode Gravitasi, Gaya Berat, Densitas Batuan, ABSTRACT The structure of subsurface in the western Karanganyar is interesting to be learned. It is related to the number of industrial building established in western Karanganyar. Hence, the kind of subsurface rocks really influence the building above. This research covers the structural mapping of deep earth in the western Karanganyar with range 100 km2. In Geophysics, gravity method is used to find out the variety of rocks density in the earth. Variety of density in the subsurface causes the gravity change on the surface. Gravity is also influenced by topography change and earth rotation. This factor must be redrawn before interpreting the data of gravity to find out the structure of the subsurface. In the end process, gravity data can be used to know the soil layer. From the research, it is obtained that the average rock density scored 2.5 gr/cm3 by Nettleton methods. Model using Grav2D acquired that the rock density is 1,004 gr/cm3, 1,503 gr/cm3, 1,56 gr/cm3, 2,39 gr/cm3, and 3,257 gr/cm3.From the table of the rock density, it can be concluded that western Karanganyar contained clay, sandstones, and diabase. Rents, dissipation and lost treasures: Rethinking Tullock's paradox

    No full text
In this paper we revisit Tullock's paradox (Tullock, 1980) and consider a rent-seeking game in which parties face increasing returns to effort. We allow parties to randomize their strategies and give them an exit option. Given the mixed participation strategies of the parties, valuable rents may occasionally remain unexploited. We consider such a lost-treasure effect as an additional cost of rent seeking and examine how the expected value of such a lost rent varies with changes in the parameters of the problem. This paper shows that formalizing private property rights has a positive effect on the propensity to respect the property of others. We study a recent large-scale land tenure reform in West Africa that was the first of its kind to be implemented as a randomized control trial. Results of a modified dictator game show that the formalization of private property rights reduced an individual's willingness to take from others' endowment. We used additional experimental measures and postexperimental survey data to rule out alternative explanations for the observed behavior that do not imply a change in preferences

Agency Problems and Organizational Costs in Slave-Run Businesses

    No full text
In this paper we examine the internal economic organization of the peculium servi communis as separate business assets granted to a slave and its (external) relationships with creditors. Literary, legal and epigraphic evidence points predominantly to businesses of small or medium size, suggesting that there must have been some constraints to growth. We identify both agency problems arising within the business organization (governance problems) and agency problems arising between the business organization and its creditors (limited access to credit). We suggest that, although the praetorian remedies had a remarkable mitigating effect, agency problems operated as a constraint to the expansion of these business organizations, both in terms of individuals involved and in terms of capital invested
